Spoilers for the season 1 finale of Dexter: Original Sin. In “Code Blues,” Dexter rescues Nicky and kills Captain Aaron Spencer after stopping him from attacking his former wife. The finale also gives Dexter a full-time forensics job and closes on a celebration with Harry and Deb. Its franchise connections are chiefly character backstory and continuity—not a cliffhanger that directly launches Dexter: Resurrection.
What happens at the end of “Code Blues”?
“Code Blues,” season 1, episode 10, brings Dexter’s search for Captain Aaron Spencer and Nicky to a violent resolution. Dexter tracks Spencer to a ship and later finds him at his former wife’s home, where Spencer is about to kill her. Dexter intervenes, kills Spencer and saves Nicky. Paramount+ lists the episode; the scene details are also reported in contemporary coverage and an interview with Patrick Gibson.

After the confrontation, Dexter gets a full-time position on the forensics team. He celebrates with Harry and Deb, giving the finale a family-centered close after the danger surrounding Spencer.
What Dexter’s decision says about his developing Code
Dexter’s action against Spencer can be read as a step toward making his own judgments rather than simply following Harry’s instruction. The choice is significant because it shows Dexter beginning to shape his understanding of the Code for himself. It is an interpretation of his character arc, not a claim that the finale abandons the Code or resolves every tension between Dexter and Harry.

How Brian Moser connects the finale to the original series
The Brian Moser thread points forward through backstory. Showrunner Clyde Phillips’s finale discussion, as reported by Dexter Daily, describes Brian’s violence becoming harder to conceal, including an attempt to smother Deb, and his eventual placement in increasingly severe institutions. Those details help connect the prequel’s family history to Brian’s established place in the original series. They are continuity material, not a promise that Original Sin will continue with another season.

Not as a direct sequel cliffhanger. Paramount’s July 26, 2024 franchise announcement frames Original Sin as a 1990s origin story and Resurrection as the present-day Dexter series, with Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter Morgan in the latter and narrating young Dexter’s inner voice in the prequel. The connection is the franchise’s timeline and character history, rather than an unresolved finale plot that hands directly into Resurrection.
