Depeche Mode: M is a concert-framed film that pairs performances from the band’s 2023 Mexico City shows with interpretive interstitials and archival material. Its official synopsis presents those performances through themes of death in Mexican culture and the ideas explored on Memento Mori. It is distinct from the separately named full-length concert film, Memento Mori: Mexico City, included in the physical film package.
What is Depeche Mode: M?
Conceived and directed by Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, Depeche Mode: M uses live performance as its frame for a broader film about music, mortality and cultural context. The official synopsis says it combines concert footage with interpretive interstitials and archival material, and describes the film as exploring Mexican culture’s relationship with death alongside themes from Depeche Mode’s Memento Mori album.

The performances center on the band’s three sold-out shows at Foro Sol in Mexico City during the 2023–2024 Memento Mori Tour. The film’s official synopsis reports that the shows drew over 200,000 fans; that is the film site’s stated figure, not an independently audited attendance count.
Is it a documentary or a concert film?
It is best understood as a hybrid: it contains concert footage, but the official description also emphasizes interpretive and archival material that situates the performances within a cultural and thematic frame. The official synopsis is the basis for that framing; it should not be mistaken for an independent analysis of Mexican beliefs or traditions.
#1 Best Overall
If you want a concert presented as a full-length performance film, look for the companion title Memento Mori: Mexico City. The band’s release information and archive identify it separately as a full-length concert film. The two titles are not simply different names for one uninterrupted concert recording.

The band’s release announcement identifies Depeche Mode: M bundles in CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray formats. The package includes the title film and the separate Memento Mori: Mexico City concert film; the announcement describes two DVDs or two Blu-rays and two CDs. The band’s archive lists the UK home-video edition as 2 DVD / 2 CD, released December 5, 2025. Contents and configurations can differ by market, so check the exact edition and territory on the listing before buying.
The Blu-ray option is for compatible Blu-ray playback equipment; DVD is the standard-definition disc format. The band also announced Memento Mori: Mexico City as a separate live album on CD and vinyl. That album is distinct from the film package and is the relevant choice if you want the concert audio rather than the video.
