Spoiler-light review. “Straight to Hell,” released April 15, 2025, is the first-season finale of Daredevil: Born Again. It brings Matt Murdock’s return to Daredevil into collision with Wilson Fisk’s growing political power, turning their rivalry into a fight over New York as well as over each other. The episode is strongest as an escalation and a promise of what comes next; its immediate payoff is more measured than its forward momentum.
Does the finale deliver enough payoff?
The episode makes a clear choice to treat the finale as a turning point rather than a neat closing chapter. Matt and Fisk’s conflict reaches a new intensity, and the story commits to the consequences of both men embracing their public and private identities. That gives the season a decisive direction, but it also means some of the satisfaction comes from seeing the board reset for the next phase rather than watching every tension resolve.

That balance will work best for viewers who want the season to make a forceful promise about its future. If you expect a finale to settle the central conflict on its own, “Straight to Hell” may feel more like a launch than a landing. The Ringer’s reading of the episode as a tonal and narrative commitment captures that emphasis, though the value of the choice is ultimately a matter of taste.
How do the political stakes change Matt and Fisk’s rivalry?
Fisk’s pursuit of power in New York gives the conflict civic consequences. The series’ premise sets a blind lawyer with heightened abilities against a former mob boss seeking political influence; the finale pushes that opposition into a city where disorder is spreading and Fisk’s authority matters beyond his personal feud with Matt. Marvel’s series overview establishes that broader premise, while the episode synopsis describes Fisk becoming “Mayor Kingpin.”

This political dimension makes the stakes feel larger without making the rivalry abstract. The danger is that civic conflict could crowd out the character drama. Here, the personal and political tracks remain linked by the same question: what happens when Matt and Fisk act openly on the identities and ambitions they have been holding in check? The result is an escalation that gives their opposition a wider arena, not a replacement for it.
Do the action and character work reinforce each other?
Contemporary coverage, including Awards Radar’s finale review, foregrounds the episode’s action, political conflict, and continuation setup. The useful standard is not simply whether the finale raises the scale, but whether that escalation expresses the character conflict. Its action belongs to a story about Matt and Fisk no longer keeping their opposing roles at arm’s length from the city around them.
That approach gives the episode drive, though the emphasis on momentum can leave less room for a sense of closure. The set pieces are most effective when read as consequences of the season’s conflict rather than as a substitute for resolving it. Viewers looking for a quiet, self-contained farewell may find the finale’s appetite for escalation less satisfying than those ready for the next confrontation.

Is the finale accessible without reading the comics?
Comic-book connections add texture for longtime readers, but they are not a prerequisite for following the episode’s central conflict. The season has already established Matt, Fisk, and the civic stakes that bind them; a reference can reward familiarity without requiring viewers to know a particular comic storyline. GamesRadar+’s reference guide discusses the episode’s comic connections for viewers who want to explore them.

“Straight to Hell” is a purposeful first-season finale: it intensifies Matt and Fisk’s personal rivalry by making New York part of the battleground, and it commits to a darker, more openly consequential direction. Its trade-off is clear. The episode offers momentum and a compelling next chapter more readily than complete resolution, so it lands best as both an escalation and a promise—not as a fully self-contained ending.

Spoilers: what the ending sets in motion
The finale’s closing movement is designed to leave the conflict active rather than contained. Fisk’s political position and the disorder in New York make the consequences of Matt’s return to Daredevil harder to separate from the city’s future. That is the episode’s central handoff: their next clash is no longer only a private struggle between two men, but a contest with civic reach.
