No one was eliminated from the Dancing With the Stars Season 32 semifinals. After Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov and Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy were left looking like the final two at risk, host Alfonso Ribeiro announced that both couples were advancing. All five semifinalist pairs made the finale.
How the apparent elimination turned into a twist
The November 28, 2023 episode began with five couples, each performing two dances. Contemporary coverage reported that viewers were led to expect four couples to advance and one to leave. Instead, after Madix and Gomez were presented as the apparent bottom two, Ribeiro said both were moving on. The result: no semifinal elimination and a five-couple finale.

Madix later described the staged suspense as “the most terrifying thing,” adding, “It was sick and twisted. I was like, ‘I love you guys, but also, I hate you guys for that!’” Michael Fairman TV reported her reaction.

What the couples danced and how they scored
The episode’s performances and scores offered context for the suspense, though the reports do not establish audience voting totals. The score descriptions below come from separate outlets and use different round framings; they should not be treated as one directly comparable leaderboard.
- Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov: The Daily Beast reported a jive to Bruno Mars’s “Runaway Baby” and a foxtrot to “Trampoline” by Shaed & Zayn. It said Madix scored 40 across the night. The Daily Beast’s recap also reported Gomez scored 40 across the night.
- Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy: The Daily Beast listed a samba to Gloria Estefan’s “Samba” and a waltz to Lady Gaga’s “La Vie en rose,” noting Gomez received all 10s. Michael Fairman TV separately reported Gomez and Chmerkovskiy earned a perfect 60 across two rounds.
- Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev: Michael Fairman TV reported a total of 59 out of 60 across two rounds.
- Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach: Michael Fairman TV reported that their second-round waltz earned a perfect score.
Alyson Hannigan also recalled being surprised when Ribeiro called her safe: “When (Alfonso) called my name, I thought he made a mistake. I was in total disbelief and I was waiting for him to correct himself .. and then he didn’t correct himself and I was like, ‘What universe are we in?’” Michael Fairman TV quoted Hannigan after the episode.

What happened in the finale?
The finale followed in December 2023, with redemption dances and freestyle performances, according to contemporary coverage. That is historical episode context, not an upcoming schedule. The defining semifinal result was that all five couples advanced rather than one being sent home.
