In a recovery video and accompanying message, she said she was proud of her scars and had learned to love them—a personal milestone she shared with other survivors, not a prescription for how anyone else should feel.
The 2012 attack and the years of recovery
Vulin was attacked and set alight in her Perth apartment in 2012 after her attacker wrongly accused her of having an affair with her husband, according to ABC Perth and PerthNow’s 2017 profile. That profile reported third-degree burns to 64 per cent of her body. PerthNow’s 2022 anniversary story described the burns more broadly as affecting “over half” of her body.
The 2022 report describes more than 200 surgeries and years of rehabilitation, including a period wearing a compression mask. In 2014, she removed the mask publicly on Seven’s Sunday Night, according to a 7NEWS retrospective published in 2021. Vulin has also spoken about how much support mattered during recovery. In 2017, she told PerthNow: “There is no way any survivor could do this alone. There is no chance in the world I would’ve made this recovery without my family. Zero.”
What Vulin said on her 36th birthday
In the post quoted by PerthNow on 1 March 2022, Vulin explained why she shared the recovery video: “This isn’t to sexualise myself but more to show other survivors and people that anything is possible,” she wrote. She added: “I’m proud of my scars and have learned to love them.”

Her words describe her own relationship with her scars after a long and difficult recovery. They do not mean that every burn survivor will feel the same way, or that recovery follows a single path.
Her memoir and cosmetic nursing work
Vulin’s memoir, Worth Fighting For, was released in 2017. ABC Perth introduced it as a book about her fight to survive, while PerthNow described it as an account of the attack and her recovery. It offers a longer account than the birthday post’s brief reflection.

PerthNow reported that I am D Aesthetics opened in August 2021 and offered cosmetic tattooing to cover scars. A 7NEWS profile published on 23 September 2023 later reported that Vulin had opened a second clinic in Kalgoorlie and quoted her describing her approach: “I create custom faces, not anything cookie cutter.” Those reports document her work at the time; they do not establish the clinic’s current locations, services or operating status.
