Cynthia Erivo and Adam Lambert’s 2025 Jesus Christ Superstar was a three-night Hollywood Bowl engagement, not a touring production. A wider tour would give audiences beyond Los Angeles a chance to see this particular pairing and its concert-scale staging. That is an argument for a tour, not an announcement: the sources available do not confirm plans for one.
What made the Hollywood Bowl production feel tour-worthy?
David Hochman, writing for Forbes on August 4, 2025, and updating the article August 5, described the staging as an “arena-style blowout” and argued it deserved a wider audience. In his words, it was “a one-of-a-kind arena-style blowout that let us see what these charismatic powerhouse belters could do with this vintage material.” That is Hochman’s judgment, not a measure of audience consensus.
The scale was part of the appeal he described: Hochman reported a capacity crowd of 17,500, and said Erivo received a three-minute standing ovation mid-act for “Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say).” Those are his reported figures and observations, not an independently verified attendance count or a formal audience study. The principal cast also included Phillipa Soo as Mary Magdalene and Josh Gad as Herod. Read Hochman’s account in Forbes.
Is the Erivo-Lambert production touring?
The Hollywood Bowl engagement ran for three nights in 2025. The sources cited here do not confirm a tour or commercial recording of that production, so neither should be treated as available or announced. The case for a tour is straightforward: the short run limited the opportunity to see this cast and staging in person, and a traveling production could bring it to audiences elsewhere. Whether the production’s makers will take it on the road remains unconfirmed.

Has Jesus Christ Superstar toured before?
Yes. The musical has appeared in other touring productions, including a UK arena tour. Its official history records a DVD release of that arena-tour production on November 19, 2012. That is a different production and cast, not a recording of Erivo and Lambert at the Hollywood Bowl. The official Jesus Christ Superstar history also describes licensing availability in some territories; that does not indicate a tour by the 2025 cast.
What other recent production is confirmed?
The rights-holder’s history records a separate 2026 London Palladium production starring Sam Ryder, described as the show’s return to the West End. It is a new production with a different cast, not a continuation of the Hollywood Bowl staging. The same official history notes that Adam Lambert’s “Heaven on Their Minds” single was released on August 1, 2025, to coincide with the Bowl production’s opening; it does not establish a physical single release or a commercial recording of the full production.

What audiences can—and cannot—count on
- Confirmed: Erivo and Lambert led a three-night Hollywood Bowl production in 2025.
- Confirmed, but separate: The 2012 DVD documents a UK arena-tour production, and the 2026 London Palladium staging features Sam Ryder.
- Not confirmed: A tour or commercial recording featuring the 2025 Hollywood Bowl cast.
A tour would be a compelling way to extend the reach of an unusually star-led staging. For now, though, that remains the case for what should happen—not news of what has been booked.
