The story brings Happy back to golf after a difficult stretch. The Associated Press describes him as a decorated retired golfer with four sons and a daughter, Vienna. The film’s official Netflix description frames his comeback around trying to make his child’s dream come true. Netflix’s title page lists the 2025 film as a PG-13 comedy.
What has director Kyle Newacheck said?
Newacheck directed Happy Gilmore 2. Tim Herlihy co-wrote it with Adam Sandler, and Dennis Dugan, who directed the original, is an executive producer. In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Newacheck discussed the sequel’s timing and the first film’s influence on him—not a specific assessment of Sadie or Sunny’s performances.

Why the sequel felt timely
“There’s been a wave of golf [popularity], so it feels like the movie is timely, just like it did in ’96. I remember asking him and him just saying, ‘It never felt like the exact right time until now,’” Newacheck told Netflix Tudum.
The original’s influence on the director
Newacheck also recalled that the original Happy Gilmore helped inspire his own filmmaking ambitions: “I remember [Happy Gilmore] being one of the last movies that I watched before I made this internal choice that, ‘Hey, that’s something that I want to do. I want to make movies like that,’” he told Tudum.

Did the director say the daughters “shine”?
The accessible interview sources establish that both daughters are in the film, but they do not independently confirm the exact exclusive interview or a Newacheck quote saying they “shine.” That wording should not be presented as a verified quotation or as a sourced director verdict. The confirmed detail is the casting: Sunny plays Vienna, and Sadie also appears.
How Happy Gilmore 2 came together
Adam Sandler told The Associated Press that he and his collaborators initially resisted making a sequel. “If someone brought it up to us, we were like, ‘Yeah, no, we’re not going to do that,’” he said. Later, the possibility began to take shape: “There was no moment we went ‘Aha.’ It just kind of happened. The last couple years, we were talking about Happy and how it might be funny if he was down and out.”
