Yes—with an important qualification. Charlie Jane Anders’s 2015 review argues that Continuum gives its central characters meaningful closure and ends on a hopeful, bittersweet note, even as the shortened final season rushes parts of its story and leaves her dissatisfied with some of its treatment of Kiera.

What kind of ending does Continuum deliver?
In her October 16, 2015 Gizmodo review, Charlie Jane Anders gives the finale a qualified yes: it is sweet because it offers a path to a better future and brings several character arcs to a close, but it does not give Kiera the family reunion a conventional happy ending might promise.
Anders describes the final season as six episodes long. In her view, the compressed run makes the plotting feel rushed and the Traveler story underexplained. The resolution still works emotionally for her, especially through the contrast between the improved future Kiera finds and the personal loss that remains.

How the finale resolves the time-portal crisis
A commando squad from an alternate future attacks the Vancouver police department to retrieve Kellogg and a key to the time portal. Kiera and the surviving officers stop the plan to use the portal, with Alec’s sabotage helping bring it down. Kellogg is sent into the distant past.
That crisis gives the finale its larger-scale resolution: the immediate threat is stopped, and the characters’ choices shape what comes next. Anders’s review also emphasizes the personal sendoffs rather than treating the action as the whole point of the ending.

Who gets closure—and who does not?
Alec and Julian
Anders considers Alec and Julian’s sendoffs especially effective. Their conclusions give the finale some of its strongest sense of payoff, even within the season’s limited space.
Kiera and Carlos
Carlos receives some closure, while Kiera’s ending carries the largest emotional cost. She returns to 2077 and finds a better future without the Corporate Congress and dystopian police force described in Anders’s review. But this improved world does not restore the family life she left behind.

Why Kiera’s reunion with Sam is bittersweet
Kiera discovers that Sam is alive in the new 2077. She cannot simply resume being his mother, however: the Kiera who never traveled back in time already occupies that place in this timeline. The finale’s closing image is Kiera watching Sam from across a playground.
That distance is the catch in the apparent happy ending. The future is better, but Kiera’s place in it has changed. Anders reads the separation as what keeps the resolution from becoming too neat: Kiera can see the life she wanted, but cannot claim it as though her journey had left no mark.

What works—and what Anders criticizes
Anders’s praise is not an endorsement of every choice in the final season. She objects to the compressed plotting, the insufficient explanation of the Traveler story, and scenes she feels press too hard on Kiera’s goodness. Those reservations matter because they distinguish emotional effectiveness from flawless execution.
Her broader assessment of the series is positive. Anders writes, “At its best, Continuum was among the strongest and most thought-provoking science fiction TV shows ever made.” That is her critical judgment, not a measured ranking or a claim of consensus. She values the show’s capacity to explore subjective dystopia and the cost of trying to build a better world—and sees the finale as reaching some of that potential despite its rushed elements.
