Per guardare i canali live gratuiti di Plex bastano un account Plex, una connessione Internet e un’app Plex compatibile: non servono Plex Media Server, Plex Pass, antenna o sintonizzatore. Apri Live TV o Live TV on Plex, scegli un programma in onda dalla guida e avvia la riproduzione. Se invece vuoi ricevere i canali locali della tua antenna o registrare programmi, è un servizio diverso: richiede un tuner e Plex Media Server; per le registrazioni serve Plex Pass.
Due modi diversi di guardare la TV in Plex
Il nome “Live TV” può indicare due esperienze distinte. La prima offre canali Internet gratuiti, finanziati dalla pubblicità e forniti da Plex. La seconda porta in Plex i canali televisivi ricevuti dalla tua antenna tramite un sintonizzatore collegato al Plex Media Server. Non confonderle: hanno requisiti e funzioni differenti.

I canali gratuiti online arrivano direttamente dal servizio Plex: il flusso non passa dal tuo server personale. Perciò non devi attivare l’accesso remoto del server e un server spento, in generale, non impedisce la visione. La distinzione è spiegata nella FAQ ufficiale sui canali Live TV di Plex e nella guida Plex alla visione della TV live.
Come avviare i canali gratuiti Plex
Su Smart TV, dispositivo streaming o console
- Apri lo store delle app del dispositivo, cerca Plex e installa l’app ufficiale, se non è già presente.
- Avvia Plex e accedi al tuo account. Se la schermata mostra un codice o un metodo di collegamento, segui le istruzioni visualizzate.
- Apri il menu principale o la barra laterale e seleziona Live TV, Live TV on Plex o la voce equivalente nella lingua dell’app.
- Apri la guida, scegli un programma contrassegnato come in onda e premi Watch, Guarda o Play.
Le etichette e la posizione del menu possono cambiare secondo lingua, piattaforma e versione dell’app. Plex elenca tra le piattaforme supportate Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, Plex HTPC, browser tramite Plex Web App, computer, dispositivi mobili e Smart TV compatibili. La compatibilità non è garantita per ogni modello: controlla la panoramica ufficiale dei canali gratuiti e dei dispositivi supportati.

Su computer
Apri Plex Web App in un browser compatibile oppure usa l’app Plex disponibile per il tuo computer. Accedi, seleziona Live TV nella barra laterale, apri la guida e avvia un programma in onda. Per i canali gratuiti Plex non occorre che Plex Media Server sia installato o in esecuzione sul computer.
Su smartphone o tablet
Installa l’app Plex dall’app store, accedi, apri il menu e tocca Live TV. Seleziona un canale o un programma in onda dalla guida. La disposizione dei comandi e alcune possibilità possono variare tra Android, iOS e versioni dell’app.

Usare la guida e gestire i canali
La guida mostra i canali disponibili e la programmazione. Seleziona un contenuto per visualizzarne i dettagli e avviare quello attualmente in onda. Puoi anche raccogliere i canali preferiti e gestirli dalla guida; le opzioni precise dipendono dal client. Se usi sia i canali Plex sia una sorgente TV personale, considera le due fonti separatamente quando navighi o personalizzi l’interfaccia.

Gli amministratori di Plex Home possono inoltre controllare l’accesso degli utenti gestiti. Percorsi e nomi possono cambiare con gli aggiornamenti dell’interfaccia.

Limiti da conoscere prima di iniziare
- Ci sono annunci pubblicitari. “Gratuito” significa che non occorre un abbonamento Plex Pass per questi canali, non che il servizio sia senza pubblicità o senza i normali costi di Internet e del dispositivo.
- Non puoi mettere in pausa, riavvolgere o avanzare rapidamente i canali live gratuiti Plex: le restrizioni di licenza non consentono queste funzioni.
- Non puoi registrarli con Plex DVR. Il DVR Plex riguarda i canali ricevuti da un tuner compatibile, non i canali online forniti da Plex.
- Non sono un pacchetto TV via cavo o satellitare. Non garantiscono canali premium né tutti i canali locali tradizionali; il catalogo varia per regione e può cambiare.
Plex dichiara che oltre l’80% dei suoi canali è disponibile a livello mondiale, ma sia l’accesso al servizio sia i singoli canali sono soggetti a limiti geografici e licenze. Tra i Paesi indicati da Plex come non supportati per Live TV on Plex figurano Bahrain, Cuba, Egitto, Iran, Corea del Nord, Qatar, Russia, Arabia Saudita, Sudafrica, Sudan, Siria, Turchia e Turkmenistan. La disponibilità può cambiare: consulta la FAQ Plex aggiornata per la situazione del tuo Paese. In Italia, non dare per scontato che la guida includa un determinato canale italiano: verifica il catalogo mostrato nel tuo account.
Se vuoi vedere i canali della tua antenna
Per ricevere i normali canali terrestri locali in Plex ti servono un’antenna adatta alla zona, un tuner compatibile con lo standard televisivo locale e un dispositivo che esegua Plex Media Server. Per programmare e conservare le registrazioni occorre Plex Pass e spazio di archiviazione sufficiente. La visione live dei canali dal tuner può essere disponibile senza Plex Pass; controlla la compatibilità del tuner e le funzioni disponibili per il tuo setup nella pagina Plex dei tuner e antenne supportati.

Configurazione di base
- Collega l’antenna al tuner e collega il tuner al server, direttamente o tramite rete, secondo il modello.
- Apri Plex Web App con un account amministratore del server.
- Vai in Settings > Live TV & DVR e seleziona DVR Setup.
- Attendi il rilevamento del tuner e selezionalo, quindi scegli Setup Device.
- Indica il tipo di segnale ricevuto, il Paese e il codice postale, poi avvia la scansione dei canali.
- Associa i canali trovati alla guida elettronica dei programmi (EPG), deseleziona quelli che non vuoi e completa la configurazione.
Per un tuner di rete come HDHomeRun, Plex raccomanda un indirizzo IP locale stabile, per esempio tramite una prenotazione DHCP sul router. Il flusso dell’antenna può richiedere la transcodifica se il dispositivo di riproduzione non supporta direttamente il formato ricevuto. Un server poco potente può quindi causare buffering o impedire la riproduzione: verifica CPU, eventuale supporto alla transcodifica hardware, rete e spazio disco prima di investire in un sistema DVR. Se Live TV non compare o non parte
- Verifica l’account. Assicurati di aver effettuato l’accesso all’account Plex corretto e che Live TV on Plex non sia stato disattivato in Account > Online Media Sources.
- Controlla la regione. L’accesso al servizio e i singoli canali dipendono dalla posizione. Non presumere che un canale presente altrove sia disponibile nel tuo Paese.
- Prova Plex Web App. Se la sezione funziona nel browser ma non nell’app TV, il problema può riguardare il supporto o la versione dell’app sul dispositivo.
- Aggiorna e riavvia. Installa gli aggiornamenti di Plex e del sistema, chiudi e riapri l’app e, se necessario, riavvia il dispositivo. Come ultima verifica, reinstalla l’app.
- Per il buffering, controlla la rete. Wi-Fi debole o congestionato, connessione Internet instabile, app obsoleta o un problema temporaneo del servizio possono interrompere lo streaming. Il server personale non è normalmente nel percorso di questi canali.
Per la TV ricevuta via antenna, invece, controlla anche che Plex Media Server sia attivo, che il tuner venga rilevato, che la scansione abbia trovato canali e che il server riesca a fornire o transcodificare il flusso per il dispositivo client.

Quale opzione scegliere
Scegli i canali Plex gratuiti se vuoi provare subito, non hai bisogno di canali locali specifici e accetti pubblicità, catalogo regionale e assenza di pausa e registrazione. Se il tuo obiettivo è vedere i canali terrestri della zona o conservare programmi registrati, valuta antenna, tuner e server Plex: offre più controllo, ma comporta hardware, configurazione e possibili requisiti di transcodifica. Se vuoi soltanto guardare la TV live senza gestire un server, la soluzione antenna-DVR potrebbe essere più complessa di quanto ti serva.
