Christina Hall and Josh Hall were reportedly experiencing marital problems well before they filed for divorce in July 2024. A source cited by PEOPLE said the couple “had issues in the marriage for quite some time,” while a separate source cited by Us Weekly said they had been having problems for a while and that Josh had moved out.
Those accounts came from unnamed sources and do not establish a confirmed cause of the breakup. The couple’s court filings cited only “irreconcilable differences.” Their divorce was later resolved through mediation, with finalization reported in August 2025.

What was reported about Christina Hall and Josh Hall’s marriage
The clearest early reporting about problems in the marriage appeared after both Christina Hall and Josh Hall filed for divorce in July 2024. A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that they “had issues in the marriage for quite some time.”
On July 24, 2024, a source cited by Us Weekly similarly said the couple had been “having issues for a while.” That report said Josh had moved out and characterized Christina as being “done” when she filed.

Because both reports relied on unnamed sources, they should be understood as accounts of what people close to the couple allegedly observed or knew—not as independently verified findings about the private relationship. Neither source established a single event or definitive reason for the separation.
The July 2024 divorce filings
Christina and Josh each filed dissolution-of-marriage paperwork on July 15, 2024, according to reports based on court documents. Christina listed July 7 as the date of separation, while Josh listed July 8. Both cited “irreconcilable differences,” a standard legal formulation that does not explain what happened inside the marriage.
Christina requested restoration of her former surname, Haack. She also asked that neither spouse receive spousal support and sought an award of attorney fees. Josh requested spousal support and attorney fees.
The slightly different separation dates became part of the public legal record, but they do not, by themselves, reveal why the marriage ended. Likewise, later disputes over property or financial terms should not be treated as proof of what caused the marital problems.

Entertainment coverage has described the couple’s wedding history somewhat inconsistently. The safest summary is that they became legally married in 2021 and held a public ceremony in 2022.
Reports based on the filings described a legal marriage in 2021 followed by later ceremonial celebrations. A subsequent settlement report referred to the legal marriage as occurring in October 2021 and the official ceremony as taking place in September 2022. Since published accounts differ in how they characterize the ceremonies, it is more accurate to distinguish the 2021 legal marriage from the 2022 public celebration than to make a stronger claim about the private wedding chronology.
Publicly positive comments before the split
The reports of longstanding private problems contrasted with the couple’s public presentation before the divorce filing. In a 2023 Us Weekly interview, Christina described communication and maturity as strengths in the relationship. Christina and Josh also posted affectionate messages about each other on social media.
That contrast is not necessarily contradictory. Public interviews and social-media posts show how the relationship was presented publicly at particular moments; they do not establish that the marriage was free of private difficulties. Conversely, later source reports do not prove every detail of what happened between the spouses.

How The Flip Off became part of the story
The breakup was closely linked in media coverage to The Flip Off, an HGTV renovation competition that reunited Christina with her first husband, Tarek El Moussa. Tarek competed alongside his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, in the series.
Christina later said that problems were already present while the show was being filmed. She also said Tarek and Heather knew there were difficulties affecting how production would proceed. That is Christina’s retrospective account, and it helps explain why the program became relevant to coverage of the split—but it should not be converted into an assumption that the show caused the divorce.
Viewers should also distinguish among three different things: what appeared in the finished television episodes, what cast members said on camera, and what people later reported about production or the marriage. Reality television is edited for broadcast, so footage or a storyline cannot independently establish the full state of a private relationship.
Where to watch The Flip Off
Availability changes by country, date, platform, and subscription plan. U.S. listings have included HGTV, HBO Max, Discovery+, Hulu, YouTube TV, Philo, and digital purchase options, but readers should check current listings before subscribing or buying an episode. HGTV’s official materials describe the series as a Christina-versus-Tarek-and-Heather competition and have announced a second season.

The divorce settlement and reported finalization
On May 2, 2025, Christina’s representative confirmed that the divorce settlement had been reached through mediation. Christina said she was grateful to have the legal matter behind her and wanted to move forward.
Us Weekly later reported that a judge signed paperwork finalizing the divorce on August 26, 2025. According to that report and the documents it cited, the settlement included:
- a reported one-time payment of $300,000 to Josh;
- division of real estate in Tennessee and California;
- allocations of vehicles and other property;
- each person retaining separate businesses and accounts; and
- mutual waivers of spousal support.
These are reported settlement terms, not evidence of why the marriage ended. A negotiated resolution can settle financial and property issues without publicly explaining the private history of a relationship.

The careful bottom line
Reporting supports the narrow claim that people described as close to Christina and Josh said the marriage had been troubled for some time before the July 2024 filings. Christina’s later comments about difficulties during The Flip Off provide a separate first-person account that problems existed during that period.

But the public record does not identify one confirmed reason for the split. The court filings say “irreconcilable differences,” and the later settlement addressed the legal and financial consequences rather than publicly resolving the question of what happened inside the marriage.

The available reporting does not establish that. Christina later said problems existed while the show was being filmed, but that is different from proving that the program caused the breakup.
The Bottom Line
