Spoilers for the original Mythic Quest Season 4 finale. The season ends with Poppy Li and Ian Grimm kissing, then abruptly breaking apart as the personal and professional stakes catch up with them. For Poppy, the moment lands amid two major changes: she is in the third trimester of her pregnancy, and she has decided not to move to the Netherlands with her boyfriend.
What happens between Poppy and Ian in the finale?
The kiss is the central cliffhanger of the original Season 4 ending. Ian and Poppy have been longtime colleagues and occasional frenemies; when they kiss, neither treats it as a simple romantic payoff. They break it off abruptly and register what it could mean for their relationship and their work together.
That pause matters: the ending presents a charged decision point, not a settled new relationship. The available March 26, 2025 CBR interview listing identifies Charlotte Nicdao, who plays Poppy, as discussing the pivotal scene and twists in Poppy’s season, but it does not provide her full response. The headline phrase “My Reaction Was Shock” should therefore be read as headline wording, not as a verified quotation from Nicdao.
Why Poppy’s circumstances make the kiss more complicated
The finale places the kiss alongside two immediate complications in Poppy’s life. She is in the third trimester of her pregnancy, and she has just decided against relocating to the Netherlands with her boyfriend. Those facts make the moment consequential, but they do not establish what Poppy will choose next or how the characters’ relationships will resolve.

Nicdao’s interview is described as covering Poppy’s Season 4 journey, but the accessible excerpt does not include her complete answers. It would be misleading to attribute a particular interpretation of Poppy’s motives or a prediction about the future to the actor without that material.
Original Season 4 finale versus the later series ending
The kiss cliffhanger belongs to the original Season 4 finale released on March 26, 2025. After Mythic Quest ended its run, Apple TV+ released a revised version of that finale in April 2025 as the series finale. These are distinct release contexts: the first ended a season while leaving the story open; the later cut served as the series conclusion.

The available information confirms a revised ending was released, but does not establish its precise scene changes or whether the updated version is available in every territory. A scene-by-scene comparison—or an assumption that every viewer sees the same cut—would go beyond what is confirmed.

CBR’s March 26, 2025 listing presents the conversation as an interview with Charlotte Nicdao about the finale scene and Poppy’s season. The accessible excerpt contains the introduction and the beginning of a question, not Nicdao’s full answers. It supports identifying the interview’s subject, but not supplying quotes, explaining her reaction in her own words, or claiming what she expects from the characters next.
