Catherine, Princess of Wales, visited RAF Coningsby for the first time on 2 October 2025 in her role as the station’s Royal Honorary Air Commodore. The visit was her debut at this station in that honorary role—not her first public appearance or royal engagement.
What happened on Catherine’s first visit to RAF Coningsby?
The Royal Air Force said the Princess visited the station on 2 October 2025. Its report, published the next day, described her as RAF Coningsby’s Honorary Air Commodore and detailed an itinerary focused on the station and its people. RAF Coningsby’s report on the visit
- She visited the Quick Reaction Alert facility.
- She experienced a Typhoon training simulator.
- She met station personnel.
- She took part in a walkabout with station families.
The RAF described this as her first visit to the station. That is the specific sense in which the October 2025 engagement was a debut outing.
What is her role at RAF Coningsby?
Royal Honorary Air Commodore is an honorary military affiliation with the station; it is not a report that the Princess assumed an operational RAF post. RAF Coningsby identifies her by that title in its account of the visit.

King Charles III directed a set of new Royal Military Affiliations in August 2023. As part of those changes, Catherine adopted the RAF Coningsby affiliation from the Prince of Wales. The RAF announced the appointments on 11 August 2023, and the Royal Family’s profile for the Princess also records the affiliation. Why was the 2025 visit described as a debut?
The appointment and the first station visit happened at different times. The affiliation was announced on 11 August 2023; the Princess’s first visit to RAF Coningsby in the role took place on 2 October 2025. The word “debut” refers to that first visit, not the date she received the affiliation.
