Sam Wilson stops Red Hulk not by overpowering him, but by reaching Thaddeus Ross through his connection to Betty. In the aftermath, Sam and Joaquin Torres choose to rebuild the Avengers independently of the government. The film presents that choice as the beginning of Sam’s leadership—not proof that a new team is already assembled or that its future is settled.
How does Sam Wilson stop Red Hulk?
Samuel Sterns has manipulated events that lead President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross to transform into Red Hulk. In the final confrontation, Ross has a physical advantage Sam cannot overcome with strength. Sam instead appeals to Ross’s relationship with his daughter, Betty, and urges him to regain control. Ross does.

That resolution answers the central question about Sam’s version of Captain America: he does not need to match Steve Rogers physically to make a difference. The film makes Sam’s judgment and humanity decisive in a moment when force would not be enough.
Empathy as Sam’s strength
In a D23 interview, Anthony Mackie described Sam’s “brute force” as “his humanity, his mind, and his compassion—not his muscles.” Director Julius Onah likewise called Sam’s superpower “empathy.” These are the actor’s and director’s descriptions of the character, not a guarantee that empathy will resolve every danger Sam faces.

- As he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Sam Wilson soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident. In a race against time, Sam must unravel a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Does Sam Wilson rebuild the Avengers?
After the crisis, Sam and a critically wounded Joaquin Torres decide to rebuild the Avengers outside government control. Earlier, Ross had asked Sam to reassemble the team; Sam’s decision establishes that he will pursue the effort on independent terms rather than simply follow the president’s request.
The film does not show a completed Avengers roster, name the members, or demonstrate Sam leading the assembled team. It establishes his willingness to take responsibility for rebuilding it, while leaving the lineup and the practical shape of that leadership open.

Is there a post-credits scene?
Yes. There is no mid-credits scene, but one scene follows the full credits. Sam visits Sterns at the Raft, where Sterns warns him:
“All you heroes protecting the world, you think you’re the only ones? Do you think this is the only world? We’ll see what happens when you have to protect this place from the others.”

- Steve Rogers wields the shield in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Then it?s Sam Wilson who unleashes his wings and takes up the mantle in Captain America: Brave New World. Join them as they fight evil global forces with this action-packed 4-movie set.
Who or what are “the others”?
Sterns’ reference to other worlds invokes a multiverse threat. The scene does not identify “the others,” establish a specific incursion, or explain exactly what a future Avengers story will involve. Connecting the warning to announced Avengers films is franchise speculation, not a plot fact confirmed by this film.

The finale gives Sam a meaningful first step rather than a definitive leadership verdict. He chooses empathy over a futile contest of strength to stop Ross, then chooses an Avengers effort outside government control. Those decisions suggest what kind of Captain America he intends to be; the movie leaves the team itself—and how Sam will lead it—unfinished.
