If Twitch will not let you change your username, check the 60-day cooldown first, make sure you are editing Username rather than Display Name, and test a different compliant name. Browser failures can also block the form, but no legitimate method bypasses Twitch’s cooldown.
Username and display name are different

If you only change the display name, your login and channel address remain the same. Twitch explains the distinction in its account-settings documentation.
How to change your Twitch username
- Sign in to Twitch on a desktop browser.
- Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
- Open Settings, then Profile Settings.
- Find the Username field—not Display Name.
- Enter the new name and submit it.
- Complete the password or security confirmation if Twitch requests it.
Labels and layouts can vary by device, locale, and Twitch redesign. The stable destination is your profile settings; if the field is missing, use the troubleshooting steps below.

Why Twitch will not let you change the username
1. You are inside the 60-day cooldown
Twitch limits username changes to once every 60 days. Count the full period from the date of your last successful change; “next month” is not necessarily 60 days. This applies even if you changed the name by mistake or want to change straight back. The account-settings rules are documented by Twitch Support.

There is no responsible workaround for this waiting period. Support generally does not override the standard cooldown, so retry after the full 60 days have elapsed.
2. The requested name is unavailable
A name can fail because another account uses it, Twitch has reserved it, it is being held after a previous rename, or it violates a naming rule. A name that looks unused in search is not necessarily available in the rename system. Twitch says inactive usernames are not released simply because they appear abandoned; see its account-creation guidance.
Try a clearly different, neutral name. Do not buy, trade, or ask support to take a name from another account; Twitch has said ordinary requests to claim another account’s username are not accepted.
3. The name conflicts with Twitch policy
Usernames and display names must comply with Twitch’s Community Guidelines. Threats, hateful conduct, harassment, impersonation, sexual content, unauthorized private information, certain drug references, and illegal or exploitative material can be rejected even when the name appears unused. Test with a plainly compliant alternative and consult the Community Guidelines.

4. You are using the wrong control
If capitalization changes but the channel URL and login do not, you edited Display Name. Return to Profile Settings and use Username. A display-name change cannot provide a new channel address.
5. The username field is missing or disabled
This may indicate the wrong settings page, an interface variation, an outdated app, an incomplete authentication session, or an unusual account state. It is not proof that Twitch has removed the feature.
6. Password or session verification is failing
Twitch may request your password or another security check. Common causes include a stale password-manager entry, an expired session, extensions interfering with the form, or temporary rate limiting. If you cannot reliably log in, use Twitch’s password-recovery route rather than opening a replacement account.
7. Twitch required a forced rename
Twitch can require a username or display-name reset after a Community Guidelines action. That is different from a voluntary rename failure. Follow the email or in-account instructions Twitch supplied; ordinary browser troubleshooting may not clear an enforcement lock.

Fixes when the rename form fails
- Confirm the last successful username-change date and rule out the 60-day cooldown.
- Try a different name that is clearly available and policy-compliant.
- Sign out of Twitch, close the browser, and sign in again.
- Open Twitch in a private/incognito window.
- Temporarily disable extensions that modify pages, scripts, privacy controls, or autofill.
- Try another current desktop browser, then another device or network.
- If the problem occurs only in the app, update or reinstall it and use desktop web as a comparison.
- Type the password manually once instead of relying on autofill.
- Stop repeatedly submitting a spinning form. Wait if rate-limit behavior appears, then retry from a clean session.
- Contact Twitch Support if an eligible change still fails.
These are diagnostic steps, not cooldown bypasses or guaranteed fixes.
Can you reclaim an old or inactive username?
Twitch has stated that an abandoned username may be held for at least six months before it may be eligible for recycling. That is a minimum holding period, not a promise that the name will return to the pool. Twitch may retain or reserve names under policies that can change, and an unused name does not obligate support to release it.
Do not delete your account solely to chase a name. Deletion can create recovery and account-continuity problems and does not guarantee availability.

- Website, email signature, and social-media bios
- Stream overlays, panels, alerts, and graphics
- Chatbots, commands, API integrations, and moderation tools
- Community announcements and creator profiles
Twitch’s earlier rename announcement warned that the old URL did not redirect and advised creators to preserve relevant statistics. Because that guidance is historical, verify current redirect and dashboard behavior, but plan as though links and integrations require review. The rename also starts another 60-day wait, so confirm spelling before submitting.

Submit a support request after the cooldown has clearly expired and the browser/device checks fail, especially when:
- a compliant name is rejected unexpectedly;
- the Username control is absent everywhere;
- password confirmation loops or returns to the same page;
- your account shows an incorrect cooldown; or
- Twitch has forced a rename and the supplied instructions do not work.
Include your account username, the approximate date of the last rename, the exact error text, browser/device details, and a screenshot that does not expose passwords or security codes.

Can I bypass Twitch’s 60-day username cooldown?
No legitimate bypass exists. Wait until the complete 60-day period after the last successful username change has elapsed.

Why does another account appear to have a name I cannot select?
The name may be reserved, held after a rename, policy-blocked, or unavailable in Twitch’s rename system despite appearing unused.
Can Twitch Support give me a username owned by another account?
Twitch does not ordinarily accept requests to take a username from another account.
Should I create a new account to avoid the cooldown?
Usually no. A new account separates followers, history, subscriptions, and creator status, and does not guarantee the desired name.
