Yes—United offers selected Apple Originals through its inflight entertainment system, and the selection was announced as free for passengers. But this is not the full Apple TV+ service: it is a curated, flight-dependent collection available on compatible United aircraft through seatback screens or the United app. Check your flight’s entertainment catalog and download anything you especially want to watch before departure.
What United added
On August 12, 2025, United announced a featured Apple TV+ channel in its inflight entertainment system. The airline said selected programming would be available at no charge on compatible seatback screens and through the United app. In May 2026, United again listed Apple TV among its premium entertainment partners, indicating that Apple programming remained part of its broader entertainment offering. That does not establish that any particular title or season is available on every flight.
The distinction matters: United’s offering is a curated package of Apple programming inside United’s entertainment system. It is not a way to sign in to the regular Apple TV app and stream the complete Apple TV+ catalog over the plane’s Wi-Fi. United’s launch announcement described the initial selection and planned additions; its May 2026 entertainment announcement provides later context on the airline’s entertainment partners.

United said The Morning Show and Bad Sisters were scheduled to join in September 2025, and that it planned further additions, including more seasons and more than 250 television episodes, documentaries, and films. Those were announced plans, not a permanent catalog. The public sources cited here do not provide a definitive current title-by-title list for August 2026, so treat the titles above as the confirmed launch selection—not a promise about what will appear on your flight.
Do you need an Apple TV+ subscription?
No subscription was required for United’s selected inflight programming as announced. “Free” means the included selection is part of United’s onboard entertainment; it does not give you an Apple TV+ subscription for use after landing, and it does not guarantee access to every Apple series, film, episode, or season. If you want the full service or a specific title, use Apple TV+ separately and check that title’s availability for your region.

How to find the programming
United announced access through both seatback screens and personal devices using its app. The exact menus can vary with the aircraft and entertainment system, so use these as a practical guide rather than guaranteed labels.

- Install or update the United app before boarding.
- Check your reservation or flight details for listed inflight entertainment amenities.
- If United offers an entertainment preview for your flight, browse it before departure. Its guest Wi-Fi portal says passengers can preview movies, television, and other entertainment options.
- Download backup entertainment to your device if there is a show you do not want to miss. A listed amenity is not a guarantee that a particular Apple title will be in the onboard catalog.
On a seatback screen
- Open the inflight entertainment system.
- Look in featured channels, television, or on-demand entertainment for an Apple TV+ or Apple TV collection.
- Select a listed title and start playback.
On a phone or tablet
- Connect to United’s onboard Wi-Fi network.
- Open the United app or the entertainment portal shown by the aircraft’s instructions.
- Choose the television or on-demand entertainment section and look for the Apple collection, if offered.
- Keep the device charged; personal-device entertainment depends on the aircraft’s onboard system and connection.
The public announcement does not specify that an Apple ID is needed. Do not assume you need one—or that the standard Apple TV app will work—unless the onboard instructions for your flight say so. Bring headphones; Bluetooth support on seatback screens varies by aircraft, so wired headphones or a compatible adapter are a useful backup.

Is Apple TV+ available on every United flight?
No universal guarantee is published. Availability can depend on whether the aircraft has the relevant entertainment system, its configuration and whether the system is working, the route and licensed catalog, and whether you are flying United mainline or a regional United Express service. A seatback screen on one aircraft does not prove that the same screen, channel, or titles will be available on another.
United’s May 2026 announcement described seatback entertainment on more than 800 aircraft across its broader system. That is useful context for the airline’s overall rollout, not an Apple-specific aircraft list or a promise that every United flight carries the Apple collection. Check the amenities and flight-specific preview where available, then keep a downloaded backup if access matters.

Apple TV+ is not United’s live TV
The Apple arrangement is for on-demand Apple Originals. It is separate from live television partnerships. In June 2026, United and DIRECTV announced live channels, including sports and news, on selected Starlink-equipped aircraft for a limited summer period. That separate offer is not the Apple TV+ collection. The Apple F1 channel mentioned in that live-TV context is live sports programming, not an Apple TV+ on-demand series. If the Apple collection is missing
- Check other menus: Return to the entertainment home screen and look under featured channels, television, or on-demand rather than expecting a standalone Apple app.
- Try the United app or onboard portal: Personal-device options may only appear after connecting to the aircraft’s Wi-Fi or entertainment system.
- Confirm the aircraft has entertainment: Some flights may have personal-device options instead of seatback screens, or limited video entertainment.
- Ask the crew: A flight attendant can confirm whether the aircraft offers seatback entertainment, though the available title list may still vary.
- Use your backup: If the title is absent, rotated out, or the system fails, play content downloaded before boarding.
For documentary viewers, the announced additions included documentaries among the content United planned to add, but the launch list above consists of scripted series. Do not assume a particular documentary—or any particular title—is on a given flight unless it appears in that flight’s catalog.
