Yes—if the music’s actual license permits continuous YouTube livestreaming and covers your other uses. “Royalty-free” is not a blanket grant of rights, and a valid license does not necessarily prevent YouTube from interrupting a live stream. Check the license for live broadcasts, territories, monetization, duration and any saved replay; for third-party music, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
What “royalty-free” does—and does not—mean
“Royalty-free” describes a licensing arrangement, not permission for every use. A track may be advertised as free or royalty-free while its license excludes livestreams, continuous playback, monetization, particular countries or archived replays. Crediting the artist in your description does not establish permission by itself.
YouTube’s guidance defines safe music as music in the public domain or music you have permission to use from the copyright owner. Its livestream terms make the creator responsible for holding all necessary rights worldwide, including applicable music and public-performance rights. Read the actual grant and confirm it fits the way your channel will use the track.
Check these rights before putting music on a 24/7 stream
- Live use: Does the license explicitly cover broadcasting music in a YouTube livestream, rather than only using it in an edited video?
- Continuous duration: Does it cover uninterrupted, repeated or 24/7 playback for the period you intend? Do not assume a standard video license answers this.
- Territories: Does the grant cover the worldwide audience YouTube requires for live content?
- Monetization: Is use permitted on a monetized channel, if applicable?
- Archive: Does the license cover keeping and replaying the stream as a video-on-demand (VOD)? YouTube says Content ID claims on an archived live stream are made after the stream ends if you choose to keep the archive.
- Attribution and other conditions: Check whether credit is required and follow the license’s exact terms. Attribution alone is not a substitute for permission.
- Content ID handling: If a third party owns or administers the music, can it add your channel to its Content ID allowlist?
Keep a copy of the license and any permission or allowlisting confirmation. Track terms can vary and change; verify the terms for each track and your intended use rather than relying on a library’s general “royalty-free” label.

Where to get music, and what to verify
YouTube Audio Library
YouTube identifies music and sound effects in its Audio Library as copyright-safe and says rights holders will not claim that library’s music through Content ID. Check each track’s details: Creative Commons tracks require attribution, while standard Audio Library tracks can be filtered to show those that do not require attribution. YouTube’s help page does not expressly address 24/7 broadcast duration, so check the track’s terms for your precise use.
Creator Music
Do not use a Creator Music license as clearance for a live broadcast. YouTube says Creator Music does not currently support licensing live content, and its track terms exclude livestreams.

Outside royalty-free libraries
YouTube cautions that music from third-party libraries can still be flagged; the license normally specifies where and how it may be used. Confirm that the specific grant covers livestreaming, continuous use, the intended territories, monetization, archived VODs and the stream’s duration. Also ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting.
Your own music or public-domain music
Music you created and public-domain music can be routes to copyright-safe use, provided you hold the relevant rights. A composition being in the public domain does not automatically clear a particular recording of it; confirm that the recording itself is also usable.

How YouTube may respond to a music match
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you to stop using the material. If it remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a livestream.
Even if you have licensed third-party music, YouTube warns that a stream may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. YouTube’s instruction is: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” Get this arranged before going live; a license and Content ID allowlisting address different parts of the problem.

If you keep an archive, check its rights separately. YouTube says Content ID claims on archived livestreams are made after the broadcast ends, if you choose to archive it. Confirm that replay use is within the license rather than assuming live clearance also covers a VOD.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If YouTube flags or interrupts the stream
- Stop or replace the matched track. If YouTube displays a warning or placeholder, remove the material rather than letting the match continue; continued use can lead to interruption or termination.
- Check the license against the use. Verify live broadcasting, territory, duration, monetization and archive rights for that exact track. A library description or credit line is not enough to establish the grant.
- Contact the rights holder. For licensed third-party music, ask the owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID. A valid license does not guarantee a live stream will avoid interruption without this platform-side step.
- Review the archive separately. If you kept the VOD, confirm it is covered and review any claim made after the livestream ended.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your recording is cleared for the intended use and you want it to play continuously, StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist as a YouTube livestream from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. The computer at home does not have to stay on; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically attempts recovery if YouTube drops the stream. This does not change your music-clearance responsibilities: confirm the rights and Content ID arrangements before broadcasting.
