Yes. An encoder-based YouTube Live setup can carry a continuous feed all day, but uninterrupted streaming is not guaranteed—and YouTube may not archive a stream that runs for more than 12 hours. If the replay matters, record the service locally and verify the recording while the broadcast is running.
What “all day” means for the live feed and the replay
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists support for 24/7 continuous streaming through an encoder workflow. That means an all-day feed is possible; it does not promise that every channel, encoder, or internet connection will stay live without interruption. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Plan the live session separately from its archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Treat that as an archive risk, not a guaranteed cutoff or deletion. If you need the complete recording, make a local copy and check that it is being saved. YouTube’s archive guidance and streaming tips recommend a local backup.
Choose the right format for the church’s schedule
One long session
A single continuous feed can suit a channel that needs viewers to find the same live destination throughout the day. Its trade-off is archive uncertainty beyond 12 hours and a longer session to monitor and manage.

Separate streams for separate services
Starting a stream for each service makes each event easier to manage as its own broadcast and replay. It does not keep one feed continuously live between services, so choose it when distinct event streams matter more than an all-day destination.
Software or hardware encoder
YouTube describes both software and standalone hardware encoders. Software may be a practical fit for a simpler setup; professional-grade hardware can suit higher-production events. The right choice depends on your cameras, audio, staffing, and budget. A dedicated hardware encoder is optional, not a requirement for every church. YouTube does not establish one bitrate or upload-speed target that fits every service: those depend on the resolution, frame rate, encoder, and connection you use.

Set up and test an all-day church stream
- Check channel eligibility. Enable live streaming on a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, and its eligibility guidance says the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check encoder setup and computer live-streaming tips for current requirements.
- Pick an encoder suited to the service. Use software or standalone hardware according to the production you need. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, get the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Prepare early. YouTube advises configuring the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the planned start. Review the preview before going live. If you have a backup encoder, test failover rather than assuming it will take over correctly. Follow YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Start a local recording. Confirm that the recording is enabled, that the file is growing, and that the recording destination has enough space. Check that the file is readable after a test; a local copy is your safeguard if YouTube does not capture a session longer than 12 hours.
- Verify the viewer experience. Check the stream preview before going live, then confirm that the watch page and channel page are accessible as intended. During the broadcast, monitor picture and sound rather than relying only on the encoder’s status indicator.
- Keep monitoring throughout the day. Watch for a dropped connection, silent or distorted audio, frozen video, or a change to the public viewing experience. YouTube’s operating guidance recommends monitoring quality and checking viewing access; these precautions reduce avoidable surprises but do not guarantee uptime.
Copyright and other rights for church services
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects such content, a placeholder may replace the stream; if the content continues, the feed can be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a live stream. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams explains the platform’s process.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights, and to follow applicable laws and regulations. The permissions a church needs depend on its territory, repertoire, and existing arrangements; YouTube’s terms do not determine those specifics. Even licensed material can trigger an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel in Content ID. Confirm permissions with the relevant rights holders and licensing organizations before broadcasting.

If the video is prerecorded or repeated
A church service that was recorded earlier and is being sent as a live feed is different from a service happening live. YouTube’s encoder guidance establishes that continuous encoder streaming is supported, but it does not settle how every repeated-video configuration is treated. Do not assume that a particular loop is permitted or that it will behave like a live event. Check that the content and its rights are suitable for your channel, and plan how viewers will understand whether the service is live or prerecorded.
