Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes, you can stream a podcast without appearing on camera—but YouTube’s guidance does not confirm that it accepts a live feed with no video signal at all. The cautious setup is to send your episode audio with a video component, such as episode artwork or a simple visual. Test it as an unlisted stream before you promote it; a static image is a practical format choice, not a guaranteed YouTube workaround.
“No video” can mean two different things
If you mean you do not want to show your face, an audio-led broadcast with artwork or another visual can meet that goal. If you mean sending audio with no video track or signal whatsoever, YouTube’s published guidance reviewed for this article does not explicitly say whether that will work. YouTube describes live streaming as an experience with a video feed, and its setup guidance discusses checking both audio and video quality. Do not assume that a truly video-free feed will be accepted.
Practical setup: audio with a visual component
Choose an encoder for a controlled podcast layout
YouTube supports several ways to go live, including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. An encoder is a suitable option when you want to control an audio-led layout or use podcast equipment such as microphones and preamps. YouTube’s setup guidance does not promise that any particular encoder or static-image arrangement will be accepted, so confirm the result in a test stream.
Prepare the episode and visual
Use the podcast recording as your audio source and add a visual element, such as the episode’s artwork or a modest on-screen design. Check that you have permission to use the recording, artwork, music, and any other third-party material in a live broadcast. A USB microphone may be useful when recording or improving your audio chain, but buying one does not resolve whether a video signal is required.

Test before inviting viewers
- Set up the stream using your chosen YouTube method or encoder and include the visual component.
- Test privately or make the stream unlisted, then check that YouTube receives the stream and that the preview looks as intended.
- Listen for clear, consistent audio and monitor the stream’s audio and video quality while it runs. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream quality.
- If the test does not work as expected, check the encoder’s output and YouTube preview, then test again before scheduling or publicizing the broadcast.
Channel eligibility and copyright checks
Confirm you can go live
YouTube Help lists these live-streaming requirements: your channel must be verified, it must have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and you must be at least 16 years old. Platform rules can change, so check YouTube’s current guidance before you go live.
Clear rights for everything in the episode
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content. A warning may appear and YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the content continues, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A claim may also be made against an archived live stream after it ends. You are responsible for having the necessary rights—including music rights—and complying with applicable law and YouTube’s rules. If a rights owner has licensed you to use its content, YouTube says that owner may need to allowlist your channel to prevent a live interruption.
