YouTube’s encoder workflow does not require OBS by name: a compatible encoder running on a cloud server can send a feed to YouTube using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. The cloud server must still have enough sustained outbound bandwidth, and you must arrange monitoring and recovery; YouTube does not certify a particular cloud host or guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
What “without OBS” means
OBS is one encoder application, not a YouTube requirement. YouTube’s documented workflow is to connect an encoder to the stream URL and key supplied in Live Control Room. You can use compatible encoder software on a cloud server instead. For a 24/7 setup, the encoder process must keep sending a feed; merely renting a server does not by itself make a stream continuous.
YouTube’s encoder guidance explains connection and ingest options, but does not certify cloud VMs, recommend a provider, specify a server image or size, or promise uninterrupted operation. Choose a server only after confirming it supports your encoder and can sustain the required outbound rate.
Set up a cloud encoder
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s general livestream setup instructions say the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and the user must be at least 16. See YouTube’s livestreaming setup instructions.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets an encoder send a feed; keep it private and reset it if compromised. Follow the current encoder setup instructions.
- Install a compatible encoder on the server. Choose software that works in the server’s operating environment and configure it to send to YouTube. The exact installation steps depend on the encoder and cloud image; no particular one is prescribed by YouTube’s setup page.
- Use RTMPS when supported. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the RTMP connection over TLS/SSL. Retrieve the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and pair it with the stream key. If your workflow requires HLS ingest, confirm that the encoder and YouTube stream settings match; HLS is not necessarily a drop-in change for an RTMP configuration.
- Configure video and audio. Set codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval in the encoder. Consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the chosen codec and output format.
- Preview and test before relying on it. Check the incoming preview, stream health, audio, and video. Test restart behavior and a backup encoder or failover path if an interruption would matter. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend monitoring stream health and testing encoder failover.
Choose settings and plan network capacity
Start with the resolution and frame rate you actually intend to send, then select a bitrate from YouTube’s recommendation for that codec and mode. Its standard RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Recommendations differ by codec, resolution, and frame rate; for example, YouTube lists 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p/30 fps. That figure is specific to that configuration, not a universal setting for 1080p.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The server’s outbound connection must sustain the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and running an upload-speed test. For a cloud deployment, check the selected region and instance’s sustained outbound capacity rather than assuming a published peak or plan label is sufficient. The official YouTube guidance does not give cloud-VM sizing or provider-specific costs.
Codec and protocol compatibility matter: YouTube supports HLS ingest for compatible workflows, including cases involving codecs unsupported over RTMP. Check YouTube’s current setup guidance before switching protocol, and make sure the encoder configuration, ingest URL, and stream settings agree.

Keep the feed running—and plan for failure
An always-on stream depends on more than the encoder starting once. You remain responsible for keeping the process supervised, maintaining network continuity, monitoring health, and defining what should happen after a disconnect or server restart. YouTube recommends stream-health monitoring and failover testing, but its reviewed guidance does not prescribe a continuous-service architecture or guarantee a cloud provider’s availability.
- Test that the encoder starts again after a process or server restart.
- Monitor whether YouTube is receiving a healthy feed, not only whether the server process is running.
- Decide how to recover if the ingest connection drops, and test the backup path if you need one.
- Plan separate recording if an archive or replay is important.
Understand the replay limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive warning, not a statement that every live feed must stop at 12 hours. If you need a replay, keep a separate recording or test a session plan that stays below the archive threshold. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Check content rights before leaving a stream live
The ability to transmit a feed does not grant permission to use its contents. YouTube’s live-stream terms require compliance with Community Guidelines and the necessary rights to exploit content on Google services, including applicable music rights. Check permissions for video, audio, and reused material before streaming continuously. Read the YouTube Terms of Service and the relevant rights guidance.

If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube rather than operate your own encoder process, StreamNeo is a dedicated cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from its cloud service, so no computer or home connection has to stay on; it does not stream from a camera.
