Yes. YouTube supports channel memberships in India, and eligible creators can make a live stream available only to members. The stream is a membership perk: the recurring membership payment is the revenue source, not a separate automatic fee for each exclusive broadcast. YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted.
Who can use channel memberships in India?
India is on YouTube’s list of locations where channel memberships are available. That country-level availability does not mean every Indian channel qualifies. YouTube’s current guidance lists these lower YPP feature thresholds for memberships: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. - You must be at least 18 and live in a location where memberships are available.
- Your channel must participate in the YouTube Partner Program and accept the Commerce Product Module, or be covered by the applicable legacy Commerce Product Addendum.
- Your channel must meet YouTube’s policy conditions. Channels set as Made for Kids and some music channels may be ineligible; YouTube reviews channels, so meeting the numerical thresholds alone does not guarantee access.
Activate the feature
In YouTube Studio, open Earn and select the Memberships tab if it is available. Follow the setup steps and accept the applicable commerce terms. YouTube says membership activation review after YPP acceptance may take up to two days. If the tab is missing, check eligibility and account status rather than assuming that India is unsupported. How to create a members-only live stream
Schedule an exclusive stream from the start
- In desktop YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live, and create the broadcast.
- Set the stream’s visibility to Members only.
- Choose whether it is for all paid members or for a specific membership level and above.
- Schedule the broadcast or go live. Members are notified. Non-members may see the thumbnail and metadata, but cannot watch the exclusive stream.
Live streaming also requires channel verification, and the channel must not have live-streaming restrictions within the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s members-only live-stream instructions and its live-streaming access requirements.

Start publicly, then make the remaining broadcast exclusive
YouTube also documents scheduling a transition from a public broadcast to a members-only segment in Live Control Room. This can let non-members see the public portion before being prompted to join for the exclusive part. YouTube says the public and members-only portions are archived as separate videos, with separate performance data in YouTube Analytics. The transition is currently unavailable for vertical live streams, and the feature options in Studio may change; confirm the current controls before building a show around it. How much membership revenue does the creator receive?
YouTube states that creators get 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted, and that YouTube currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. The 70% is a share of revenue after those deductions, not a guaranteed take-home amount equal to 70% of the displayed membership price. An MCN may take an additional share; granted refunds can be deducted from the creator’s share; and creators remain responsible for applicable tax compliance. There is no universal rupee payout per member or per members-only stream established by that percentage. Membership pricing, applicable deductions, refunds, and any MCN arrangement affect the result. For your own channel’s figures, check membership revenue reporting in YouTube Studio and the relevant account and payment records. Memberships are not the only live-stream revenue feature
For eligible creators, YouTube lists advertising, channel memberships, Shopping, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and YouTube Premium revenue as distinct monetization features. Each has its own eligibility and settings. A members-only stream specifically delivers an exclusive viewing perk tied to recurring memberships; it does not by itself activate the other revenue features.
