Can CameraFi Live Stream Videos Stored on an SD Card to YouTube?

CameraFi Live can stream video files to YouTube, but whether it can select a removable SD-card clip depends on the phone and app version.

Yes, if CameraFi Live can see the video in its source picker. CameraFi documents video files as broadcast sources and YouTube as a destination, but its published instructions do not confirm that a file on a removable SD card will be selectable on every Android phone. Check the app’s Video source picker on your device before relying on the clip.

What CameraFi Live supports

CameraFi’s Android beginner guide says users can add video files as sources alongside the phone’s built-in camera, a USB external camera, and image files. Its Google Play listing also identifies video files as an input source and YouTube as a streaming destination. These establish support for video-file input and YouTube streaming, but do not guarantee access to every removable-card file.

The documented file-selection instructions use the app’s Video menu and select a video or image from the gallery. CameraFi does not publish a universal, current procedure specifically for choosing a video directly from a removable SD card.

How to try streaming an SD-card video

  1. Check that Android can see the file. Confirm the SD card is mounted and that the clip appears in the phone’s gallery or file picker. If CameraFi cannot find it, check the phone’s media or storage access settings. The exact permissions and picker behavior vary by Android version and device.
  2. Open CameraFi Live and choose YouTube. Sign in and begin the broadcast setup. CameraFi’s YouTube instructions say live streaming must be enabled for the account; activation can take time. Check YouTube’s current setup guidance, since eligibility and interface requirements may change.
  3. Add the video source. Open the Video menu, tap the plus button, and select the clip if it appears among the gallery videos. This is the file-selection workflow CameraFi documents.
  4. Finish the YouTube broadcast setup and go live. Before a public broadcast, consider testing privately or as unlisted to check the clip’s audio, orientation, aspect ratio, and playback behavior.

When the SD-card video does not appear

  • Verify the card is mounted. Look for the clip in the phone’s gallery or file picker. If it is absent there too, CameraFi may not be the cause; first check whether Android can access the card and file.
  • Check CameraFi’s access. Review the app’s current media or storage permissions. Names and behavior differ across Android versions and devices, so there is no single permission path that applies to every phone.
  • Try the documented gallery route. CameraFi’s manual describes selecting gallery video files from its Video menu. It does not establish that all file-manager locations or removable-card paths are available through that picker.
  • Separate storage-path history from source compatibility. CameraFi release notes mention changing the SD-card storage path on Android 11. That historical note shows SD-card path handling existed in some context; it does not prove that a removable-card clip can be used as a broadcast input on your current phone and app version.

The available CameraFi documentation does not show that you need to buy another SD card, reader, or capture device if a file is missing. First check the device, Android version, card visibility, and CameraFi’s current access.

Or let it run in the cloud

CameraFi is the relevant route when you want to broadcast a local clip from your phone and it appears in the app’s source picker. For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos to keep looping around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection left on; it supports uploads as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start a free day with StreamNeo.
