Possibly—but age alone cannot tell you whether a desktop will manage it. The PC must play the video and encode it reliably at your chosen settings, while your actual internet connection and power supply remain dependable. Test the exact setup before relying on it for a continuous broadcast; no universal minimum PC specification or uninterrupted-service guarantee is established for this use.
What determines whether the desktop can do it?
A computer that can play a video may still struggle to encode and send a live stream continuously. Suitability depends on the particular machine, source video, output resolution and frame rate, encoder, sustained upload capacity, and local power reliability. The sources do not establish a universal minimum processor, graphics card, memory, or operating-system specification for this workload.
For India, there is no separate technical threshold or assurance that a given connection will sustain a 24/7 stream. Performance can vary by address, provider, time, and local power conditions. Check the connection where the desktop will run, rather than treating a broadband plan or one speed test as proof of continuous stability.
Choose YouTube settings the PC and connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists the following recommended H.264 video bitrates. These are encoder recommendations, not broadband-plan requirements or guarantees of stream quality.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Output | YouTube recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
Source: YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance, accessed in 2026. YouTube advises choosing quality that suits the connection and running an upload speed test. A result from a speed test is only a starting point: it does not demonstrate that the connection will hold up through a long broadcast.
Use a conservative starting point
Start at the lowest resolution that meets your viewers’ needs. Run a representative test with the same video movement and audio you intend to stream. If the desktop cannot encode smoothly or the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, reduce the output settings and test again.

Match the encoder to the computer
YouTube documents RTMP or RTMPS transport, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure transport. These are service settings—not evidence that an older desktop supports every codec or can encode them reliably. Choose only settings the actual machine handles in a sustained test.
Set up and test before relying on a continuous stream
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube says encoder-based streaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Configure the encoder. Select a supported YouTube ingest method, a codec the desktop can handle, constant bitrate, an appropriate resolution and frame rate, and the recommended keyframe interval. Use RTMPS when available.
- Run a representative pre-stream test. Test the intended source video and audio at the exact output settings. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.
- Watch performance over time. Check the encoder’s status, YouTube’s stream health, and whether the video and audio remain smooth. A brief successful test does not establish that the setup will stay healthy for 24 hours.
- Check the real location’s weak points. Verify sustained upload, router and ISP behavior, and power reliability at the place the desktop will operate. An Ethernet cable can remove the local Wi-Fi link from the path, but cannot ensure that the ISP is stable. A UPS may provide backup power for some period; choose runtime for the actual load and do not treat it as a guarantee against interruptions.
Troubleshoot dropped frames and interruptions
- Dropped frames are accumulating. In OBS, a yellow or red connection indicator with rising dropped frames signals that the connection may be unstable or unable to keep up with the selected bitrate. Lowering the bitrate may help if upload capacity is the limit; test again and check for persistent network instability.
- The desktop struggles to encode. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and repeat the representative test. A stable network cannot compensate for a machine that fails to play or encode the source reliably.
- The connection fails intermittently. Check the desktop-to-router link, router, ISP connection, and upload behavior at the actual location. A wired connection can rule out one wireless segment, but does not fix ISP congestion or outages.
- Power interruptions stop the broadcast. Consider whether a UPS with runtime appropriate to the equipment is useful. It can provide backup power, but does not guarantee that every interruption will be covered.

Understand YouTube policy and replay limits
A prerecorded video streamed live still has to comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Make sure you have the rights needed for the video and audio you use; a 24/7 loop does not exempt content from YouTube’s rules. Whether a particular prerecorded loop qualifies for monetization is not established here, so check current YouTube policy rather than assuming it will.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes primary and backup ingestion addresses, stream status and health data, and conversion of a completed broadcast into a YouTube video. It does not establish a universal archive duration or certify that an entire very long broadcast will remain available as a replay. Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will be preserved as one complete VOD. See Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API LiveStreams documentation.

DIY desktop or cloud streaming?
A desktop gives you direct control over the encoder, but the machine, local connection, and power need to remain available. For a DIY setup, test the desktop with the selected settings and monitor stream health. Consider the ongoing costs of electricity, backup power, internet, and any hardware changes against your own local quotes; there is no universal cost comparison without those details.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts.
