A distributor that administers a Content ID reference for your recording may be involved when your own music matches on YouTube, but a live interruption and a Content ID claim on the replay are different events. YouTube scans live streams for matches; a match may prompt a warning and, if it continues, interrupt or end the broadcast. A Content ID claim on an archived live stream can be made after the broadcast ends. Ask the distributor that delivered the recording whether it can allowlist your channel and how it handles claims on your own streams; procedures vary by provider.
What can happen during a live stream?
YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may show a placeholder image and warn the streamer. If the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A license by itself does not guarantee that a live stream will avoid interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance describes this process.
When does a Content ID claim appear?
A claim on an archived live stream is separate from an interruption during the broadcast. YouTube says a Content ID claim may be made after the stream is complete if you choose to archive it. So, a stream ending or displaying a warning does not by itself establish that a replay has received a Content ID claim; check the replay and its notice in YouTube Studio.
Why might your own song be matched?
If you delivered your recording to a distributor that administers Content ID, that distributor or a rights administrator may control the reference against which YouTube compares videos. Your use of your own recording can therefore raise a support issue if the reference matches your live stream or its replay. The exact rights-management controls, allowlisting options, and claim-release process depend on the distributor. Do not assume every distributor offers channel allowlisting or handles live interruptions in the same way.

What to ask your distributor
Contact the distributor or rights administrator that delivered the recording to YouTube Content ID. Give them the channel URL, the recording or release identifiers, the stream or replay URL, and any warning or claim details you received. Ask:
- Does your company control or administer the Content ID reference for this recording?
- Can you add my YouTube channel to an allowlist, and what proof or identifiers do you need?
- Does allowlisting apply to the whole channel or only specified videos?
- How do I request release or correction of a claim on my own channel?
- Can your process address a live interruption as well as a claim on an archived replay?
- Can Content ID participation be changed for this release, and what would that change affect?
These are questions to verify with your provider, not features guaranteed across distributors. YouTube advises creators who have permission to use third-party material to ask its owner to allowlist their channel. For a recording you own but a distributor administers, ask that distributor who can make the change and whether it will do so.

Separate feature: Content ID matching on live streams
YouTube also offers a distinct real-time matching feature to certain partners using YouTube Studio Content Manager. Access is granted at the Content Manager level, while an eligible channel enables and manages matching as it streams. YouTube’s stated requirements include an established Content ID record, time-sensitive live content, likely copying, global rights, and exclusive ownership of the entire stream. This is a restricted rights-holder feature, not the ordinary process by which an artist’s own live stream may be scanned.
Real-time matching does not create a Content ID claim on the live broadcast it matches. YouTube says it can warn the streamer, replace the stream with a static image without sound, or terminate it if matching continues. Standard Content ID claims on videos, by contrast, are a separate mechanism. See YouTube’s guidance on Content ID matching on live streams.

What to do if YouTube flags or interrupts your stream
- Identify what happened. Note whether the issue occurred during the broadcast or appeared later on an archived replay. Save the warning, claimant name, affected video URL, and any claim or restriction details.
- Check YouTube Studio. Review the stream and replay notices, and check for strike or restriction details. Treat an interruption and a later replay claim as separate issues.
- Contact the rights administrator. Ask the distributor that delivered the recording about allowlisting and its process for releasing or correcting a claim. Include the evidence you collected.
- Review other material in the stream. If it includes music or other content owned by someone else, get permission and ask the actual rights owner about allowlisting before you go live. A license alone may not prevent interruption.
- Resolve each notice through the relevant channel. Follow YouTube’s instructions for any YouTube restriction or strike, and the distributor’s process for a claim it administers. Do not assume that resolving one automatically resolves the other.
