Yes, in principle—but only if the public-domain status covers both the musical composition and the specific recording you stream. A public-domain melody does not automatically make a modern performance, arrangement, sample, or recording public domain. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches, and music rights clearance does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization.
What “public domain” has to cover
Music involves at least two distinct rights questions: the rights in the underlying composition and the rights in the particular sound recording. A lofi track may use an old composition but contain a recent performance or recording with separate rights. A new arrangement, remaster, or sample can also introduce material whose rights need checking.
So “this song is old” or “the tune is public domain” is not enough to establish that a particular file is safe to stream. YouTube’s Content ID guidance distinguishes compositions from recordings and says Content ID references require exclusive rights in the territories where they are claimed. The status of a specific track can also depend on territory. YouTube’s guidance says public-domain monetization criteria may vary with jurisdiction and with the scope and limits of any license.
Check each recording before adding it to the stream
For every track, identify the composition and the exact recording—not just the album, playlist, or download page it came from. Keep a record of what you checked and the terms that apply.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Composition: Identify the work and check its public-domain status in the territories relevant to your use.
- Recording: Verify the provenance and rights status of the exact recording. Do not assume an old score makes a recent performance or recording public domain.
- Changes and samples: Check whether the file includes a new arrangement, remaster, performance, or sample that may carry separate rights.
- Evidence or permission: Retain the source and evidence for the status, or the license granting the uses you need. A page calling music “free” is not proof that it is copyright-safe; YouTube warns that such labeling does not prevent Content ID claims or restrictions.
- Use conditions: Record whether livestreaming and keeping an archived stream are permitted, which territories are covered, and whether attribution is required.
- Content ID: If permission is licensed, check whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel to avoid a live-stream interruption.
This recordkeeping is a practical safeguard, not a guarantee that YouTube will never flag the stream or that a claim will be resolved in your favor.
What can happen during and after a YouTube live stream
While you are live
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder. If the content remains, the live stream may be interrupted or terminated. A license does not necessarily prevent that interruption: the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

After the stream ends
If the livestream is archived, a Content ID claim may be made after it ends. That means a stream that ran without interruption is not necessarily free of claims on its archived version. Check the archived video and respond to any claim using the relevant rights evidence or license terms.
Copyright clearance and monetization are separate tests
YouTube says creators can monetize public-domain content if they can prove it is public domain. That does not make every public-domain music stream eligible for monetization: the channel also has to meet YouTube’s monetization policies.

YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible. Review can consider the channel as a whole. YouTube also treats reused-content review as separate from copyright enforcement: permission to use music does not guarantee that content qualifies for monetization. Its examples of content that does not qualify include collections of songs from different artists, even when the creator has permission.
For a lofi channel, assess not only whether each track is cleared, but also whether the channel’s production, visuals, and programming are sufficiently distinctive and original. A 24/7 format or a cleared soundtrack alone does not establish that it meets the originality test.

Do not rely on Creator Music for a live stream
YouTube’s current Creator Music guidance limits its licensed or revenue-sharing tracks to long-form videos, not live streams. Its licensing page states that paid licenses were deprecated on August 10, 2026; existing licenses continue for their terms, but cannot be renewed under the old terms. These policies can change, so check YouTube’s current Creator Music guidance before relying on a track or license.

YouTube recommends its Audio Library as a source of copyright-safe music and sound effects. Check the individual track’s displayed terms, including any attribution requirement, and confirm that they cover your intended use. For any other source, establish the rights in the specific composition and recording rather than relying on a “free” label or a general claim about the music’s age.

Keeping a 24/7 lofi stream running
Once the rights checks are complete, choose a setup that can keep the stream running and recover from interruptions. StreamNeo is one option: it keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud, so a home computer does not have to stay on. It does not establish music rights or guarantee monetization; you remain responsible for clearing every recording.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot has one flat price for any quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded, with no re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only; it does not clear music rights. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.

This article reflects YouTube Help guidance accessed October 3, 2026, including its materials on safe music, live-stream copyright issues, Content ID, monetization, reused content, and Creator Music. Platform policy guidance is not jurisdiction-specific legal advice. Because no track, country, recording date, performer, or rights documents were specified, no particular lofi recording can be certified here as public domain or cleared for a stream.
