Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf CameraFi Live says a YouTube stream failed because of an “unsupported video format,” first identify where the error appears: while loading a source into CameraFi, while preparing the broadcast, or after YouTube receives the stream. The available official CameraFi and YouTube guidance does not identify the exact message’s cause, so there is no confirmed universal codec conversion or setting that fixes it. Use the checks below for the workflow that is actually failing.
First, locate the failure
CameraFi describes several separate paths into and out of the app, but its official FAQ does not explain this exact wording. Before changing settings, note the source type, CameraFi Live version, device and operating-system version, and the screen or step where the message appears. Also check whether the broadcast appears in YouTube Live Control Room and whether YouTube shows a stream-health warning. These details help separate a source-compatibility issue from an outgoing connection issue.
- Source loading or playback: The error appears as you select or load a local video or connected source in CameraFi.
- Broadcast preparation: CameraFi reports a problem before YouTube shows an incoming stream.
- After YouTube receives the stream: The broadcast appears in Live Control Room, where YouTube may show stream-health information.
Record the exact message rather than paraphrasing it. A “format” message alone does not establish whether the source, capture hardware, outgoing encoder settings, or another part of the workflow is responsible.
If you are using a USB or HDMI camera
CameraFi’s documented external-camera workflow supports USB UVC devices. For a DSLR or camcorder with HDMI output, CameraFi describes using an HDMI-to-UVC capture card. These are checks for an external-camera source only; they are not a general fix for local video or every YouTube connection error. See CameraFi’s FAQ for its external-device guidance and link to a device compatibility list covering specific resolutions and frame rates.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm that a USB camera is UVC-compatible and that the phone or tablet recognizes the device.
- For an HDMI DSLR or camcorder, verify that the capture card converts HDMI to a UVC input and is compatible with the camera, mobile device, and CameraFi Live.
- Check the capture device’s documentation and CameraFi’s linked resolution/frame-rate compatibility information for the combination you are using.
- Reconnect the camera and capture hardware, then test again. If the error remains, record the camera model, capture-card model, device, and selected resolution and frame rate before changing other variables.
The cited CameraFi material does not provide a comprehensive list of local-video codecs or containers accepted by the app. Do not assume a specific file conversion is required unless CameraFi confirms it for your source and version.
If the failure is between CameraFi and YouTube
When YouTube does not receive the outgoing broadcast, check the destination and stream key in YouTube Live Control Room and compare them with CameraFi’s stream configuration. YouTube recommends RTMPS for YouTube Live and says to test a stream before going live. Its separate RTMPS troubleshooting covers SSL errors and connection timeouts, including checking the URL, protocol, port, and encoder support. Those are connection checks; YouTube does not say they resolve CameraFi’s unsupported-format wording.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room and confirm you are using the current RTMPS server URL and stream key for the intended broadcast. YouTube’s instructions are at YouTube’s RTMPS help page.
- Check that CameraFi is configured for the destination and protocol supported by its current version. If YouTube reports an SSL error or timeout, verify the URL and protocol, and whether the encoder supports RTMPS.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast before an important live event, then inspect YouTube’s stream-health feedback.
YouTube automatically detects encoder settings and transcodes live streams into viewer output formats. That describes YouTube’s handling of an incoming stream; it does not establish which local video files or sources CameraFi accepts. For HDR streams, YouTube recommends H.265 over RTMP(S), or HLS if the encoder does not support that combination. Do not apply this HDR-specific advice to an ordinary unsupported-source error without evidence that HDR is involved. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
If you are sending RTMP into CameraFi
CameraFi announced an Android beta RTMP-input feature on June 30, 2026. This workflow receives an external RTMP source in CameraFi; it is not the same as CameraFi sending a stream out over RTMP to YouTube. Check current beta availability before relying on the feature.

For that incoming-source workflow only, CameraFi advises checking network reachability between the sender and CameraFi device, the RTMP details, resolution and bitrate, and firewall or router settings. A network/firewall checklist for RTMP input should not be applied automatically to a CameraFi-to-YouTube outgoing stream. See CameraFi’s June 30, 2026 announcement.
Check the app and YouTube account setup when relevant
Update CameraFi Live through the applicable app store and retry. The CameraFi Live App Store listing says version 2.65.1 resolved live-streaming errors on certain YouTube accounts, but it does not identify this unsupported-format message or establish that the update fixes it. Treat updating as a general check, not a confirmed remedy: CameraFi Live App Store listing.

If YouTube will not let you create or start a broadcast at all, confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel. CameraFi’s setup article lists a YouTube account and enabled live streaming as prerequisites and says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. This setup delay is relevant to activation, not an established cause of a format error once a stream is underway. See CameraFi’s YouTube setup guide.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded documentary or playlist live on YouTube around the clock, rather than troubleshoot a camera-based broadcast, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
