If a video stops when your Android screen turns off, first check whether the video pauses, CameraFi Live closes or goes into the background, or the outgoing broadcast ends. Test screen timeout and manual locking separately, then repeat while charging. These checks can help identify the cause, but CameraFi’s public guidance does not promise that video playback continues after the screen is locked.
Identify what is actually stopping
CameraFi Live can use video files as a source for a broadcast, according to CameraFi’s Guide for Beginners dated December 27, 2024. That guide does not explain whether playback continues after Android locks the display. Watch for which of these outcomes occurs:
- The video pauses: CameraFi may still be open, but its video source has stopped.
- CameraFi closes or is backgrounded: the app may be affected by device power or background-activity controls.
- The broadcast ends or drops: the outgoing stream may have lost app, network, or service activity, even if the original video is still available.
These are different symptoms; note which one you see before changing settings.
Run controlled tests before changing settings
- Start with CameraFi visible. Play or broadcast the same video with the app in the foreground. Confirm whether it runs normally before the display turns off.
- Test screen timeout. Temporarily set a longer display timeout in Android’s display settings. Let the screen turn off by timeout and note whether the video, app, or broadcast stops.
- Test manual locking separately. Repeat the same setup, then lock the phone yourself. If timeout works but manual locking stops playback, report that distinction to CameraFi support.
- Repeat while charging. Keep the app, video, and network the same, but connect the phone to power. Android’s Doze documentation says connecting a charger exits Doze. If charging changes the result, power management is worth investigating; that does not prove Doze was the sole cause.
- Use a stable network. Repeat on a reliable connection and note whether the local video keeps playing even if the broadcast drops.
Check Android battery and background controls
If the problem occurs only after the phone is locked or the app is no longer visible, look in Android Settings for CameraFi Live’s battery, background activity, or app battery-usage controls. Menu names and available options vary by phone maker and Android version. If your device offers an unrestricted or allow-background-use option for CameraFi, try it as a diagnostic and repeat the same test.

Do not assume a battery setting can override Android’s service and permission rules. Android’s foreground-service guidance includes restrictions on starting foreground services from the background, and camera or microphone activity has additional while-in-use permission requirements. CameraFi’s public materials do not describe how its service is implemented for this screen-off case, so no single setting can be promised as a fix.
What Android’s screen-off behavior can explain
Android may enter Doze when a device is unplugged, stationary, and has its screen off. During Doze, Android restricts network access and defers CPU and network work. Waking the screen or connecting a charger exits Doze, according to Android’s platform documentation. This makes a charging comparison useful, but Doze is only one possible contributor—not a diagnosis of every CameraFi interruption.

Foreground services support noticeable ongoing tasks, but they do not guarantee that every app can continue every camera, microphone, or broadcast activity after it is backgrounded. The available CameraFi guide and FAQ describe sources and broadcast controls, but do not establish whether a particular app build and phone support playback after lock.
When to contact CameraFi support
If the controlled tests do not reveal a setting that changes the behavior, send CameraFi support enough detail to reproduce the issue. Include:

- Whether the source is a video file or another source type
- Whether the screen timed out or you manually locked it
- Whether the video paused, the app closed, the network stream dropped, or the broadcast ended
- Whether charging or changing networks altered the result
CameraFi’s February 2020 FAQ and January 2020 screen-streaming tutorial cover broadcast workflow, but they do not provide a current, universal screen-off fix. Google Play’s CameraFi Live listing describes video files as a source during live streaming; store listing details may change and do not guarantee background playback.
