Why Brittany Mahomes faced backlash
On August 13, 2024, Donald Trump posted an Instagram graphic promoting the Republican Party’s 2024 platform. The Independent reported that Mahomes’s Instagram handle appeared among the accounts that liked it; Just Jared described users sharing screen recordings that appeared to show the like. The interaction is reported, not independently authenticated here.
Online critics reacted to the apparent like as a sign of support for Trump or the platform. Some social-media users also speculated about what it might mean for Mahomes’s friendship with Taylor Swift, but that was commentary, not an established consequence. A like alone does not show that Mahomes endorsed every proposal in the platform or explain her political views.
What was in the post
Glamour described Trump’s graphic as promoting the GOP’s 2024 platform and reported that it listed 20 promises. Examples it cited included carrying out “the largest deportation operation in American history” and cutting federal funding for schools that promote what the graphic called “Critical Race Theory, Radical Gender Ideology.” Those are examples, not a complete account of the platform.

What Mahomes said about “haters”
On August 23, Mahomes posted an Instagram Story criticizing adults who hate to see others doing well. The Independent reproduced her words: “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood.” She continued: “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”
Just Jared noted that the Story did not specifically mention Trump. Mahomes did not explain in that post whether she was responding to the reported like or to the criticism around it, so it should not be presented as a direct statement about her political position.

What happened after the August 23 Story
By August 24, Just Jared reported that the like was no longer present on Trump’s post and that Mahomes did not follow Trump. Glamour also described the like as apparently removed. The coverage did not establish exactly when it disappeared or why.
On August 26, Glamour reported that Mahomes shared a separate Instagram Story containing a message by Christian blogger Shane Pruitt: “Contrary to the tone of the world today…You can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.” Mahomes added, “Read that again!” The message’s wording was Pruitt’s, rather than an original statement by Mahomes.
