Game 7 of the 2025 World Series averaged 51.0 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan—not the United States alone. Across all seven games, the series averaged 34.0 million viewers in those same three countries, according to Major League Baseball (MLB).
What do the headline audience figures count?
The figures refer to different markets, outlets, and time spans. “Average viewers” describes the average audience during a game or across a series; it is not the same as a peak audience at one moment, a television rating, or cumulative viewing minutes. MLB’s November 5, 2025, recap reports the combined U.S.-Canada-Japan averages and selected country figures. It calls Game 7 the most-watched MLB game in 34 years, since Game 7 of the 1991 World Series, and the seven-game series the largest World Series audience since 1992.
| Measure | Audience | Geography and outlet scope | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game 7 average | 51.0 million | United States, Canada, and Japan combined | Average viewers for one game, not a U.S.-only figure |
| Series average | 34.0 million | United States, Canada, and Japan combined | Average viewers across the seven-game series; 19% above 2024, according to MLB |
| U.S. series average | 16.1 million | MLB’s listed U.S. outlets: FOX, FOX Deportes, Univision for Game 1 only, the FOX Sports App, and FOX One | Multi-outlet U.S. average reported by MLB |
| U.S. series average on FOX | 15.71 million | FOX network only | Narrower outlet scope than MLB’s U.S. total |
| Canada series average | 8.1 million | Sportsnet and TVA Sports | Canadian audience average |
| Japan series average | 9.7 million | Japan; MLB does not specify the series-average outlet scope in its recap | Japanese audience average |
The combined 34.0 million is MLB’s stated three-country figure, not a complete global count. MLB said complete global viewership would be available later; the figures above should not be presented as a worldwide total.
Why do the U.S. series totals differ?
MLB’s 16.1 million U.S. average includes multiple listed outlets, with Univision counted for Game 1 only. FOX separately reported 15.71 million viewers on its network across the seven games. The FOX-only result is not a competing estimate of precisely the same outlet set, so the two numbers should not be substituted for one another.

FOX also reported that its Game 7 telecast averaged 26.882 million viewers in the United States and peaked at 33.064 million between 11:45 p.m. and midnight Eastern. The peak is an audience during a specific interval, not the game’s average and not the combined three-country 51.0 million figure. See FOX Sports’ postseason figures.
How many people watched in Canada and Japan?
Canada
MLB reports that the series averaged 8.1 million viewers in Canada across Sportsnet and TVA Sports. Game 7 averaged 11.6 million across those broadcasters. MLB describes Game 7 as the most-watched English-language broadcast on record in Canada outside the 2010 Winter Olympics, and the most-watched Rogers broadcast ever. The Toronto Blue Jays’ place in the series is relevant context for Canadian interest, but the audience figures alone do not establish why viewership changed.
Japan
Japan averaged 9.7 million viewers across the series. Game 7 averaged 12.0 million on NHK-BS. Game 6 averaged 13.1 million on NHK-G, which MLB identifies as the most-watched World Series game on a single Japanese network. These are distinct game and outlet figures, not additional audiences to add to MLB’s combined three-country totals.
Did U.S. viewership rise throughout the series?
No. The strong Game 7 and full-series headlines do not mean every game drew a larger U.S. audience than its 2024 counterpart. The Associated Press reported that the first two games of the 2025 series averaged 12.5 million U.S. viewers, down 14% from 14.55 million for the first two games of 2024. The 2025 opener drew 13.305 million in the United States; Game 2 drew 11.63 million, a figure that did not include Univision coverage. The opener’s combined U.S.-Canada-Japan audience was 32.6 million. These early-game measures have different scopes, so they should not be directly compared with the later three-country Game 7 figure. See the Associated Press report on the first two games.

How does the postseason viewing-minutes figure fit?
Nielsen reported 58.2 billion viewing minutes for the entire 2025 MLB postseason, up 24% year over year. Viewing minutes add up time spent watching across the postseason; they are not the average number of people watching the World Series. Nielsen says its 2025 national ratings use big data plus panel measurement, while its prior-year comparison used panel-only measurement. The differing methodology is relevant context when interpreting the year-over-year change. See Nielsen’s postseason viewership report.

How to read the 2025 World Series numbers
- For the headline Game 7 audience, use 51.0 million and name the United States, Canada, and Japan.
- For the seven-game series, use MLB’s 34.0 million three-country average; do not describe it as a global total.
- For a U.S. figure, specify whether it is MLB’s multi-outlet 16.1 million or FOX’s network-only 15.71 million.
- Keep average audiences, interval peaks, and cumulative postseason viewing minutes separate.
- Compare year-over-year figures only when the geography, outlet scope, event span, and measurement unit match.
