BoxCast’s documented workflows show that the products can work together, rather than establishing which delivers better performance in a controlled head-to-head test. For an ordinary live production, decide whether you need OBS’s production workflow alone or BoxCast’s scheduled distribution and associated services. For a continuous channel, first confirm how the event’s duration and end time fit your plan.
Can you run a 24/7 YouTube stream through BoxCast?
Do not assume that one BoxCast event can run indefinitely. BoxCast says a broadcast automatically ends at its scheduled end time; if the encoder keeps sending after that, the feed will not reach viewers or be recorded. Its Premium support material describes events lasting up to 24 hours. That establishes a documented event limit for Premium, not support for a single uninterrupted 24/7 event.
Before buying or building around BoxCast for continuous operation, ask BoxCast to confirm the exact plan and workflow for your intended duration, recurrence, and recovery after an interruption. The available documentation does not establish that a series of scheduled events will behave like one uninterrupted stream, or that it will preserve a continuous archive.

How to connect OBS and BoxCast
BoxCast documents three paths. These are BoxCast workflows, not a complete current guide to sending OBS directly to YouTube. A scheduled BoxCast broadcast is required for the documented BoxCast routes.
Send OBS to BoxCast with RTMP
- In BoxCast, create or schedule the broadcast and open its Sources settings. Copy the stream key and the server URL provided for that source.
- In OBS, select BoxCast as the streaming service and enter the supplied server URL and stream key.
- Start OBS five to ten minutes before the scheduled BoxCast start time, as BoxCast recommends, so the source is ready when the event begins.
Send OBS to BoxCast with SRT
- Schedule the BoxCast broadcast and obtain the SRT server value from the BoxCast source settings.
- In OBS, choose the custom service field and enter the SRT server value. BoxCast’s instructions say to leave the stream key blank for this workflow.
- Start the source ahead of the scheduled event and verify that the broadcast begins as expected.
Send OBS’s program output to a BoxCast encoder
- Connect the computer running OBS to the BoxCast encoder using a compatible display/HDMI connection. The adapter or capture device depends on the computer’s ports and encoder inputs; a capture card is not universally required.
- Use OBS Projector Mode to send the program feed to the encoder, following BoxCast’s recommended workflow.
- Confirm that the encoder receives the intended picture and sound before the scheduled broadcast begins.
BoxCast says hardware encoding shifts encoding work away from the computer and provides access to its diagnostics and described network protocol. Treat these as vendor-described benefits, not independently measured performance results. Check the specific computer and encoder connections, resolution and frame-rate requirements, and operating-system compatibility before choosing any adapter or capture component.
Audio setting to check
BoxCast’s OBS guide warns against setting audio bitrate below 64 kbps: it says that can result in HE-AAC encoding and no audio on the BoxCast stream. This is a BoxCast-specific instruction; verify the current guide and your encoder workflow before applying it.

Link BoxCast to YouTube and test ahead of time
- In the BoxCast dashboard, open integrations and link the YouTube account you intend to use.
- When scheduling a BoxCast broadcast, select YouTube as a destination for the simulcast.
- For a test, BoxCast recommends setting the YouTube privacy to private or unlisted.
- Enable YouTube Live well before the planned stream. BoxCast’s integration guide says activation may take up to 24 hours; confirm the current status and instructions in YouTube before the event.
The sources cited here do not establish current YouTube rules for an indefinite continuous stream, including the exact duration, content type, archive behavior, or whether a specific 24/7 configuration complies. Check current official YouTube guidance for your channel and content rather than treating BoxCast scheduling or account linking as proof of policy compliance.
Which option fits your use?
- Choose OBS direct to YouTube if you want a software-based production workflow and are prepared to manage the stream and verify YouTube’s current setup requirements. Common problems and what to check
The scheduled BoxCast broadcast ends while OBS is still sending
The event may have reached its scheduled end time. BoxCast says continuing to send after that point does not keep the broadcast available to viewers or recorded. Check the event schedule and confirm with BoxCast how the plan handles the duration and recurrence you need.

The BoxCast event does not start when expected
Confirm that the BoxCast broadcast is scheduled and that OBS began sending before its start; BoxCast recommends starting five to ten minutes early for the RTMP workflow. Check that the server URL and stream key match the BoxCast source, or that the SRT server value is correct and the stream key is blank for the documented SRT workflow.
YouTube is not available as a destination
Check that the intended YouTube account is linked in BoxCast’s dashboard integrations and that YouTube Live is enabled. BoxCast says activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete setup in advance and verify the account in YouTube.

Check the OBS audio bitrate against BoxCast’s warning not to go below 64 kbps, then verify audio routing and levels in the signal path. The bitrate warning is specific to BoxCast’s instructions; it does not replace checking the current configuration guide.

The encoder does not receive the OBS picture
Check that OBS Projector Mode is sending the intended program feed and that the computer-to-encoder connection is compatible. Confirm the ports and supported signal requirements before adding an adapter or capture card; the documentation does not establish one universal hardware setup.
