Best Video Format for 24/7 YouTube Live Streaming in India

For 24/7 YouTube streaming in India, start with H.264 video and AAC audio over RTMPS, then test a sustainable bitrate with network headroom. Learn the settings and archive limits.

For a conventional SDR 24/7 YouTube stream, use H.264 video with AAC audio over RTMPS as the straightforward baseline. Set the encoder to constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, then choose a resolution and bitrate your internet connection can sustain continuously with headroom. YouTube also accepts H.265 (HEVC) and AV1, but the reviewed official guidance does not specify a different format for India.

Recommended format and protocol

H.264 video and AAC audio over RTMPS are a practical starting point for a standard dynamic range (SDR) stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance also supports H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 video over RTMP/RTMPS. The right option depends on whether your encoder supports the codec and can run it reliably for the full broadcast. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and its RTMPS guidance.

RTMPS encrypts the connection between your encoder and YouTube. YouTube transcodes the live input into multiple playback formats, so your ingest codec is not necessarily the format every viewer receives.

Settings to use for an SDR stream

Setting Starting point Notes
Protocol RTMPS Use a compatible encoder and YouTube stream setup.
Video codec H.264 H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 are also listed by YouTube for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion.
Audio codec AAC YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS audio; AAC is required for 5.1 surround sound.
Rate control CBR YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies constant bitrate.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds Recommended interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.
Frame rate Up to 60 fps Use a frame rate your source and encoder can sustain.
SDR color Rec. 709, 8-bit These are YouTube’s SDR recommendations.

For HDR, do not simply reuse the SDR setup: YouTube describes a separate workflow with HEVC requirements. Consult the current encoder settings guidance if you specifically need HDR.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose resolution and bitrate for your connection

YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrates include 4 Mbps for 720p30, 6 Mbps for 720p60, 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your particular connection can hold a stream at that rate. YouTube’s current encoder settings page provides additional ranges for H.265 and AV1; check it for your chosen codec rather than assuming the H.264 figures apply.

Higher resolution and frame rate increase the bitrate your upload must sustain. Choose a setting based on the source material and a real connection test: a stable lower-resolution stream is more useful than a sharper stream that repeatedly drops. YouTube advises: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” Its guidance also says: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test with headroom

  1. Run an upload speed test on the same internet connection and, as far as practical, under the conditions when the stream will operate.
  2. Set the encoder to the intended resolution, frame rate and bitrate, then run a test stream and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
  3. Leave upload capacity unused rather than setting the stream at the connection’s full measured upload speed. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend 20% headroom.
  4. If the stream health is unstable, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again. ISP, route, time of day and local network conditions can all affect sustained upload performance.

There is no India-specific codec or bitrate rule in the reviewed YouTube guidance. Do not select a bitrate based only on being in India; test the actual connection serving the channel.

Set up the encoder and protect the stream key

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain its stream key and server information. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the encoder workflow.
  2. In your encoder, select RTMPS, enter the server information and paste the stream key into the key field. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
  3. Apply the video, audio, bitrate, keyframe and color settings above, matching the output to your source and available upload capacity.
  4. Start the encoder and confirm in YouTube Studio that the incoming feed is healthy before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.

Plan for a stream that runs longer than 12 hours

Continuous live availability is not the same as a guaranteed complete replay. YouTube says, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all,” and recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Rewind through DVR may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If preserving the complete feed matters, record it locally and verify the recording rather than relying on a single all-day YouTube archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR information.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Stream health reports unstable or the feed drops The sustained upload cannot support the configured total bitrate, or network conditions fluctuate. Retest upload speed, leave headroom, reduce bitrate or resolution, and monitor the stream at the intended operating time.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed Wrong server details or stream key, unsupported protocol, or an encoder configuration issue. Confirm RTMPS, server information and key in YouTube Studio and the encoder; verify that the key has not been mistyped or replaced.
Video looks poor despite a high resolution setting The bitrate may be too low for the resolution, frame rate or visual complexity of the source. Check the recommended bitrate for the selected codec and output, then test a suitable bitrate within the connection’s stable capacity.
Long stream has no complete replay or limited rewind YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours, and DVR rewind can be limited on very long streams. Keep a local recording if a complete archive is important; do not treat uninterrupted live playback as proof of a complete replay.
