Pick a scrolling method that suits your delivery

Voice features can depend on the supported language, microphone, and recording environment, so check the vendor’s requirements and try the feature in your actual setup before relying on it for a shoot.
- Remote control: A Bluetooth or other compatible remote can let you start, stop, or adjust prompts without reaching for the device. Confirm that the remote works with both the app and your device; Teleprompter.com describes Bluetooth remote compatibility, while PromptSmart lists remote-control options for purchase.
Phone camera or separate camera: how to position the script
Recording directly on a phone
For a phone video, put the prompting text close to the camera lens and position the phone securely. A nearby screen can make it easier to keep your gaze near the lens, but the right placement depends on the phone and framing. Test a short clip: if your eyes visibly track across or down the screen, adjust the text position, size, or distance.
Recording with a DSLR or mirrorless camera
A camera-mounted teleprompter uses beam-splitter glass to reflect the script in front of the lens while the camera records through it. This can keep the presenter’s gaze aligned with the camera, but it adds a physical accessory and setup requirements. Check price and plan terms before you depend on an app

Common problems and practical fixes
The script scrolls too fast or too slowly
Adjust the speed and rehearse with the final script at your normal speaking pace. If the app supports voice-following, check its language and microphone requirements and test it in the room where you will record; a noisy environment or unclear audio may make voice control less suitable.

You look away from the lens
Move the prompt closer to the camera, reduce the text width if that helps keep your eyes centered, and record a short test. If you are using a separate camera, consider whether a properly fitted camera-mounted teleprompter would align the script with the lens.
A feature or device is not supported as expected
Recheck the app’s current store listing and plan details for your exact operating system and device. Vendor comparison pages may describe features generally, while availability can depend on the particular setup or paid plan.

Voice tracking loses your place
Check the app’s supported language and audio guidance, reduce background noise, and try the recommended microphone arrangement. PromptSmart’s listing recommends an external wired microphone but says it is not required. If tracking remains unreliable in your environment, use manual scrolling or a compatible remote instead.
