Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteOBS Studio is the strongest free starting point for creators who want a configurable desktop encoder; Streamlabs suits creators who want YouTube-focused overlays and alerts built into its workflow; and XSplit Broadcaster is a Windows option with scene production, recording and paid multistreaming. There is no universal winner: choose according to your computer, operating system, production needs and budget. For a pre-recorded video that should loop on YouTube around the clock without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option—not desktop broadcasting software.
What is the best streaming software for YouTube Live?
Start with the kind of production you need. OBS Studio is a good first choice if you want a flexible, no-charge encoder and are willing to configure scenes and sources. Streamlabs is worth considering if its YouTube-facing alerts and widgets fit your show. XSplit Broadcaster is an option for Windows users who want scene-based production and recording, with simultaneous multistreaming listed as a Premium feature.
These are feature-based recommendations, not results of comparative performance or ease-of-use testing. YouTube supports webcam, mobile and encoder workflows. An encoder is especially useful for sharing a screen or gameplay, bringing in external audio/video hardware, or managing a production with multiple cameras and microphones. YouTube lists OBS, Streamlabs and XSplit among its software encoder options, and notes that listed encoder products are not made by YouTube: YouTube’s guide to live streaming with an encoder.
Compare the options by workflow
| Software | Best fit | Key points | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Creators who want a flexible desktop encoder without a software charge | Open-source recording and live streaming software; supports plugins and scripts, including Lua and Python. | Hardware compatibility alone does not guarantee a successful stream. Workload depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. |
| Streamlabs | Creators who want YouTube-facing widgets and alerts integrated into a Streamlabs workflow | Offers multiple routes, including Desktop, OBS Plugin, Mobile, Console and Talk Studio; highlighted widgets include Super Chat, Super Stickers, emotes and subscriber alerts. | Features and multistreaming entitlements differ by product and plan. Check the specific tool and current terms rather than assuming one limit applies across Streamlabs. |
| XSplit Broadcaster | Windows users who want scene-based production and recording | Product information lists custom RTMP and multiple outputs, with NVIDIA NVENC available where supported; Premium enables simultaneous streaming to multiple platforms. | Windows only. Free and paid plan terms can change; verify current pricing and limits with XSplit before choosing. |
OBS Studio: the flexible free starting point
OBS Studio is open-source software for video recording and live streaming, and YouTube includes it among verified software encoders. Its plugin and script API can extend a scene-based setup, but flexibility also means the result depends on how you configure sources, scenes and output settings. The official project describes its capabilities at OBS Project.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the computer before building a scene
OBS lists Windows 10 or 11 with a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU; macOS 11 or later on Intel or Apple Silicon with an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU; and Linux/Unix with an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU and X window system or Wayland. Requirements can change, so consult the current OBS system requirements for your platform.
Meeting those requirements does not guarantee the machine can stream your chosen production. CPU and overall system demands vary with the encoder, output resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help choose settings for a particular machine; treat its result as a starting point and check the stream output before going live.

Streamlabs: choose the exact product and plan
Streamlabs offers more than one YouTube workflow: its YouTube page lists Desktop, OBS Plugin, Mobile, Console and Talk Studio. Its highlighted YouTube-related overlays and widgets include Super Chat, Super Stickers, emotes and subscriber alerts. Those integrations may be useful when audience interaction is part of the production; they are not a reason to assume every Streamlabs product has the same features.
Multistreaming terms also vary by tool and plan. Streamlabs describes a limited Dual Output scenario and an Ultra membership requirement for choosing destinations with Console. Confirm the applicable product and current plan details on Streamlabs’ YouTube streaming page before relying on a particular feature.

XSplit Broadcaster is a Windows application. Its product information describes scene-based live production, recording, custom RTMP and multiple outputs, and use of NVIDIA NVENC where available. Choose based on your production and computer
- For a screen share, gameplay stream or custom scene setup: begin with OBS if you are comfortable configuring sources and settings.
- For alerts and interactive YouTube overlays: compare the exact Streamlabs product with your workflow, especially if you also need multistreaming.
- For a Windows-based scene and recording workflow: consider XSplit, checking which features require Premium.
- For multiple cameras, microphones or external AV gear: an encoder can bring the production together, but plan for the demands of the selected resolution, frame rate and scene complexity.
- For a video that should repeat continuously while your computer is off: use a cloud looping service rather than treating desktop encoder software as an always-on host.
Regardless of software, YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Allow time for activation before a scheduled first broadcast. Review YouTube’s encoder guidance for setup and platform requirements: YouTube Help: live streaming with an encoder.

Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common selection problems
- Your computer meets minimum requirements but the stream struggles: compatibility is not a performance guarantee. Reduce the production load or adjust settings using OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, taking encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity into account.
- You need a Streamlabs feature but cannot find it: check whether it belongs to Desktop, OBS Plugin, Mobile, Console or Talk Studio, then verify the plan entitlement for that exact product.
- You expect XSplit to multistream on its free tier: XSplit describes simultaneous multi-platform streaming as a Premium feature; check current licensing before planning a show around it.
- You cannot go live on a newly enabled channel: first-time activation may take up to 24 hours according to YouTube, so enable it well before the broadcast.
