LIGO stands for Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. It is a large-scale physics experiment and observatory with a purpose to detect cosmic gravitational waves and to develop gravitational-wave observations as an astronomical tool.
The first flight made by LIGO was on August 23, 2002. Since then, the world of science has changed thanks to LIGO. Thanks to LIGO, the observable realities of our Universe have changed, and we can look at gravity in a different way.
LIGO was actually the largest and most ambitious project ever funded by the National Science Foundation. And now it helps us define gravity and all of its effects. This documentary shows just how important LIGO is.
