For a prerecorded YouTube channel that must stay live around the clock, choose cloud playout software if you do not want to leave an encoder computer running. StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. Other options include Upstream, OneStream Live, LiveGoLive and Looping Stream; OBS is a local alternative, but it requires a computer and network connection to keep supplying the feed.
How prerecorded 24/7 streaming works on YouTube
YouTube receives a live video feed from an encoder. The encoder may be software running on a computer or a cloud service running the playback for you. YouTube’s Live Control Room schedules or creates the broadcast; the encoder supplies the actual video. Uploading videos to YouTube or scheduling a normal video does not by itself create a continuous live stream. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting with the server URL and stream key.
For a scheduled broadcast, the documented workflow includes waiting for the stream preview and selecting Go live when appropriate. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, so a continuous channel also needs a plan for broadcast rotation and archive boundaries.
Best software and methods for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams
Feature descriptions below are from the respective providers or YouTube’s directory, not independent reliability tests. YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source streaming and recording software and includes Gyre and Upstream among verified encoders with 24/7-oriented descriptions; directory inclusion is not a ranking or reliability certification.

Its FAQ states a free allowance of 24 streaming hours per month. | Whether playlist editing, scheduling, cloud operation and the stated monthly free allowance meet your needs. Upstream’s site. |
| OneStream Live | Its support article documents 24/7 streaming to YouTube, with immediate or later scheduling and a duration set in days. | The 24/7 feature is YouTube-only, requires Enterprise, and has a maximum scheduled duration of 30 days. OneStream Live’s instructions. |

| OBS or another local encoder | YouTube lists OBS as no-charge open-source streaming and recording software. Choose based on workflow, not a reliability ranking
- Cloud or local: Cloud playout removes the need to run your own encoder computer; local software gives you direct control but makes your machine and connection part of the broadcast chain.
- Playback: Check for ordered or shuffled playlists, continuous looping, one-off events and repeating schedules. A general live-production encoder may not offer unattended playlist playout by itself.
- Limits: Compare supported destinations, stream duration, storage, simultaneous broadcasts and any plan restrictions. OneStream’s stated 30-day maximum is specific to its 24/7 scheduled broadcast workflow.
- Operations: Decide who monitors stream health, handles reconnection, rotates broadcasts and manages archives. Do not infer comparative reliability from feature pages; there is no comparable independent reliability data here.
Set up a prerecorded stream with YouTube and a local encoder
This route suits operators who want to run the encoder themselves. You need a video playlist or playback setup that can feed the encoder continuously, a computer that will remain on, and a stable internet connection. OBS is an encoder, but unattended playlist playback may require a compatible playback or playlist workflow beyond simply opening OBS.
- Enable YouTube live streaming in advance. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and follow the setup flow. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned launch time.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In Live Control Room, create a live stream or schedule one for the intended start. Note the stream server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- Configure the encoder and playback. Add the YouTube server URL and stream key in your encoder’s streaming settings. Set the prerecorded video or playlist as its source and confirm that playback will repeat or advance unattended. Exact menu labels differ by encoder version; YouTube’s instruction is to enter its server URL and stream key in the encoder.
- Match the output to your source and connection. Avoid needlessly scaling or changing frame rate. Set a stable output resolution and frame rate supported by your source and upload bandwidth, and use the encoder’s recommended streaming settings for the selected resolution. The sources cited here do not establish a universal bitrate or keyframe interval for every source and connection, so use the current YouTube and encoder recommendations rather than a guessed one-size-fits-all number.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that Live Control Room receives video and audio and that the preview looks and sounds right. For a scheduled stream, wait for preview and select Go live when ready, following YouTube’s scheduled-stream flow.
- Monitor the long run. Watch for dropped connection, stalled playback, audio gaps and broadcast-ending behavior. Plan how to start a new broadcast or rotate the stream around YouTube’s archive boundary; streams under 12 hours are automatically archived according to YouTube Help.
Protect the channel and the media
- Only stream recordings you own or have permission to broadcast. Prerecorded delivery does not remove copyright, Community Guidelines or monetization-policy obligations.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not post or send it in public chat; someone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Regenerate it if you believe it has been exposed.
- If using account authorization instead of a manual key, review what access the service requests before approving it.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo plays the uploaded videos from its cloud; it streams to YouTube only and does not go live from a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, support, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps runs at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.

Cost and practical checks
Cloud and local approaches move costs to different places: cloud services charge according to their plans, while a local setup depends on your own equipment, power, connection and time spent monitoring and recovering the stream. Current complete pricing matrices for the other services are not established here, so check each provider’s live plan details before committing. StreamNeo offers the same features on every plan; only the duration changes. Options are Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. Cancel any time; UPI and cards are accepted in India and card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact StreamNeo support.
Before starting, estimate upload time for your library, confirm storage and formats, and test the full playlist privately or with an unlisted broadcast where appropriate. StreamNeo’s upload-time calculator, cloud vs PC cost calculator and copyright safety checklist can help with those checks.

Troubleshooting a prerecorded 24/7 stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live Control Room receives no feed | Encoder is stopped, server URL or stream key is wrong, or first-time live activation is incomplete. | Confirm activation, recheck the URL and key for the intended broadcast, and verify the encoder is actually sending. |
| Preview appears, but broadcast is not public | A scheduled stream may still require the operator to start the broadcast. | Wait for the preview and use Go live when the scheduled-stream flow calls for it. |
| Stream ends or archives unexpectedly | YouTube’s archive behavior, a service duration limit, or a local interruption may have ended the broadcast. | Check the broadcast duration and service plan. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours; plan rotation rather than assuming one event will run forever. |
| Playback stops while the live indicator remains on | The playlist may have reached its end without looping, or a source file may have failed. | Check repeat/shuffle behavior, file compatibility and playlist order; test a complete cycle before relying on unattended playback. |
| Unexpected broadcast appears on the channel | A stream key may have been exposed or an unwanted authorized connection may be active. | Secure or regenerate the key and review third-party account access. |
