To change videos on a YouTube stream without taking the live feed offline, keep one encoder or cloud playout service connected continuously and schedule the changes in that system. YouTube’s scheduled-broadcast controls decide when a live event starts or ends; they do not, by themselves, switch the video playing inside a continuous broadcast.
Choose what “scheduled” means for your stream
There are two different scheduling jobs. A scheduled broadcast sets when a YouTube live event is due to begin, and lets viewers see an upcoming event. A scheduled content change switches the clip, scene, or video being sent by an encoder while its feed remains live. You need to arrange the second job in your encoder workflow or a separate playout layer—not just schedule an event in YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and the OBS Project guide cover broadcast setup and scheduling controls.
Pick a way to run the content changes
Local encoder: OBS or another software workflow
Run OBS or another encoder on a computer, connect it to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key or an available account integration, and arrange the media or scene changes in the encoder workflow. The encoder must keep sending a continuous feed while the source changes. This offers control over scenes and production, but the computer, network connection, source files, and encoder session all need to keep operating. The available guidance does not establish minimum computer specifications, a recovery design, or guaranteed uptime; test the setup you intend to use rather than assuming it will run unattended.
Cloud playout: StreamNeo
For a YouTube stream built from uploaded prerecorded videos, StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded content and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. See StreamNeo for details.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cloud directory listing: Gyre
YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing establishes the described use, but not current pricing, partner terms, or which scheduling functions are available on each plan. Confirm those details with the provider before choosing it.
API-managed separate live broadcasts
If each scheduled segment should have its own live video or watch page while the continuous stream stays active, YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents a different pattern: bind two broadcast resources to the same stream. Its example keeps a 24/7 broadcast live while a separate interview broadcast begins and later completes, with the encoder continuing to send video. This is not the same as switching clips within one watch page. See YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

Set up and test a continuous feed
- Enable live streaming on the channel ahead of time. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and do not leave this step until the scheduled start.
- Choose the content automation layer. Use your encoder workflow for scene or media changes, a cloud playout tool for uploaded prerecorded content, or the API pattern if segments need separate live broadcasts. These approaches solve different needs; scheduling the YouTube event alone does not schedule the clip changes.
- Create or select the YouTube broadcast. Set its title, visibility, and other metadata. If you use a scheduled broadcast, understand the selected auto-start and auto-stop behavior. The OBS Project guide says auto-stop ends the broadcast after streaming stops and prevents reconnecting to continue that same scheduled broadcast. Consult the OBS guide for its setup flow; interface details may vary by version.
- Connect the encoder. Use the stream URL and stream key, or the account integration available in your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or put it in a shared playlist or public screenshot.
- Set a sustainable video bitrate. YouTube’s current encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, recommends H.264 ingest at 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommended ingest values, not a guarantee that your upload connection can sustain them. Check the full YouTube bitrate and resolution table for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec; leave capacity for normal network variation.
- Use an appropriate connection and keyframe interval. Prefer RTMPS when your encoder supports it; YouTube describes it as a secure extension to RTMP and recommends it. For general RTMP/RTMPS guidance, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), keyframes at a two-second frequency (no more than four seconds apart), and audio such as AAC or MP3. Check the encoder settings guidance for the applicable options.
- Test the actual handoffs. Run through the scheduled changes with representative audio and motion, confirm that the intended source appears and audio remains correct, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion; do not treat an untested schedule as unattended-ready.
Prevent the scheduled broadcast from ending by mistake
Content changes should happen inside a continuing encoder feed. Stopping the feed can affect the scheduled broadcast’s behavior, particularly when auto-stop is enabled. OBS’s guide notes that auto-stop ends the broadcast after streaming stops and prevents reconnecting to continue that same scheduled broadcast. If continuity matters, review the event’s start/stop settings before relying on a disconnect-and-reconnect workflow.
Troubleshoot missed changes and interruptions
- The video changes do not happen: Check whether the schedule is configured in the encoder or playout layer. A scheduled YouTube event controls the event’s start or end, not the source changes within the feed.
- The broadcast ends when a source or connection changes: Confirm the encoder is still sending a feed and review auto-stop settings for the scheduled broadcast. The OBS guide warns that auto-stop can prevent continuing the same event after streaming stops.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Compare the encoder bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the selected resolution and frame rate, then verify the connection can sustain it. YouTube’s figures are ingest recommendations, not a network-capacity test.
- A reconnect does not resume the same scheduled event: Check whether the event already ended under its auto-stop behavior. Do not assume reconnecting will reopen that event.
- A scheduled segment needs its own watch page: A playlist switch within one continuous feed is not enough. Consider the documented Live Streaming API pattern for separate broadcast resources bound to the same stream.
- You have not tested the exact sequence: Test transitions with actual audio and motion and watch stream health before leaving the setup unattended.
