Choose a browser studio if you need guest interviews and an in-browser production workflow; a cloud relay if you want one outgoing feed distributed to several platforms; or a local encoder if you need detailed scene control and have the computer and upload capacity to run it. Before choosing, check destination support, plan limits, orientation, account permissions, and how your audience will interact with chat.
What multistreaming means—and what to decide first
YouTube calls publishing the same content to multiple services at once “simulstreaming.” It advises creators to confirm that YouTube Live is enabled, that accounts on other platforms are active and in good standing, and that the internet connection has enough upload capacity. See YouTube’s live-streaming encoder guidance.
Start with the production workflow rather than a platform ranking. A browser studio combines production and distribution in a web-based setup. A cloud relay receives an encoder feed and distributes it. A local encoder gives you control on your own computer, but local multi-output setups can demand more processing and upload bandwidth. The platform notes below are based on official documentation; they are not independent reliability tests or a complete current price survey.
Compare the three multistreaming workflows
| Workflow | Best suited to | Outgoing connection | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser studio | Guest interviews, browser-based layouts, and straightforward show production | The studio or service handles delivery; check its operating requirements | Destination cap, platform and account permissions, orientation, and guest or comment features |
| Cloud relay with desktop encoder | Creators who want to keep using OBS or another encoder while sending one feed to a relay | One feed to the relay, according to Streamlabs’ documentation | Supported destinations, plan access, format needs, and whether chat features cover the platforms you use |
| Local encoder | Creators who want detailed scene and encoder control on their own system | Separate outputs can multiply bandwidth demand; add the target bitrates | Computer capacity, total upload bitrate, platform RTMP support or integrations, and setup effort |
Platforms to consider
StreamYard: browser-based studio and documented destination limits
StreamYard may suit creators who prioritize an in-browser studio and guest-oriented production features. Its help material says multistreaming is available on paid plans, with destination limits of 3 on Core, 8 on Advanced, and 10 on Business. These are plan limits reported by StreamYard, not independent performance measures; confirm current terms before buying. Its documented destination list includes YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Twitch, Kick, Vimeo, and custom RTMP. Features and orientations vary by destination. See StreamYard’s multistreaming plan information and its destination list.

Check the specific network integration and account permissions you need, especially for portrait output and platform-specific features. A destination appearing in a service’s list does not by itself establish that every account can use every format or capability.
Streamlabs Multistream: cloud distribution from an encoder
Streamlabs describes a cloud service that receives one feed and distributes it to supported platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Kick, Facebook, Patreon, X, Instagram, and custom RTMP. Its documentation says the multistream feature is part of Ultra. It also describes a free Dual Output option for one vertical and one horizontal destination. These are Streamlabs’ own descriptions of its service and plan terms; verify current availability and destination behavior before relying on them. Streamlabs also describes chat read and posting support that differs by destination. Details are on its multistreaming page.

OBS Studio: free local encoding, with local resource demands
YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. OBS is a local-encoder option for creators comfortable configuring scenes and outputs. You remain responsible for the computer running the stream and for sufficient upload bandwidth. The official materials cited here do not establish the current compatibility or maintenance status of particular multi-RTMP plugins, so check a plugin’s own documentation before building a workflow around it. See YouTube’s encoder guide and the OBS Project.
Restream: a cloud multistream option to evaluate
YouTube’s encoder guide lists Restream as a service in the cloud multistream category. That establishes it as an option to investigate, not a current comparison of its prices, destination caps, or referral terms. Confirm those details directly before choosing a plan. The official material referenced here does not support a like-for-like ranking against StreamYard or Streamlabs.

Estimate upload bandwidth for local multi-output streaming
For separate local outputs, add the target bitrates together. YouTube gives the example of a 6 Mbps output plus a 4 Mbps output, for 10 Mbps total, and recommends 15–20 Mbps upload for stability in that example. This is an example, not a universal bitrate recommendation: your actual needs depend on the settings and destinations you use.
- Identify each platform’s target bitrate for the resolution and frame rate you plan to send.
- Add the outgoing targets to estimate the stream’s combined upload demand.
- Test with realistic audio and video running, then monitor stream health in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Leave capacity for normal network variation and other household or office traffic; a speed-test result alone does not guarantee a stable live connection.
A cloud relay can reduce the number of feeds your computer sends to platforms, but confirm how the particular service receives and distributes feeds—especially if you need both vertical and horizontal outputs. Streamlabs documents a one-feed approach for its cloud multistream workflow and a separate Dual Output option for one vertical plus one horizontal destination.

Preflight checklist before going live on several platforms
- Enable YouTube Live. YouTube says first-time enablement can take at least 24 hours after the initial request, so do not leave activation until broadcast day.
- Check every destination account. Make sure each account is active and in good standing, and that you have the required authorization, stream key, or server URL for the workflow you selected.
- Verify service limits and formats. Confirm the current plan’s destination cap, that each network is supported, and whether your intended landscape or portrait format is available for each one.
- Plan audience interaction. If you need comments or chat in one place, check which platforms the service can read from or post to; support may differ by destination.
- Run a realistic connection test. For local outputs, total target bitrates and test under actual audio/video load. For a cloud relay, confirm account authorization and whether your chosen format requires an additional output.
- Check rights and platform rules. Make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material you broadcast, and review each platform’s current live-stream policies. Multistreaming distributes content; it does not grant permission to use it.
Choose according to the show you produce
- Choose a browser studio if the guest and show-production workflow matters more than fine-grained local encoder control. Check the plan cap and destination-specific features first.
- Choose a cloud relay if you want to keep a desktop encoder in your workflow but avoid sending a separate feed from your computer to every platform. Confirm the relay’s plan, destinations, formats, and chat behavior.
- Choose a local encoder if you value direct control and can manage the computer load, multi-output setup, and combined upload demand. OBS itself is free, but hardware and setup time still matter.
None of these mechanics guarantees audience growth. They determine where a broadcast is delivered, not whether viewers will find or watch it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If what you need is a YouTube channel that keeps uploaded videos live around the clock—not a camera-based, interactive multistream—StreamNeo is a different kind of option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud loops the uploaded video, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Streams run at the quality uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; automatic recovery can restart the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. Start the free first day.
