OBS Studio is the clearest no-license-cost option for streaming prerecorded videos to YouTube, but it is not a free cloud host: your computer and internet connection must keep sending the broadcast. The cloud services documented here do not offer a free, uninterrupted 24/7 loop: Streamloop’s signup credits cover about an hour at standard quality, while OneStream Live’s free plan limits prerecorded streams to 15 minutes and excludes playlist streaming.
Which tools are worth considering?
These options differ in where the stream runs and what their free terms actually allow. The evidence supports a clear distinction: OBS has no software license cost, but requires your own always-on setup; the cloud services with stated free access offer only limited trials or plans that do not meet the continuous-loop requirement.
| Option | What is documented | Fit for a free 24/7 prerecorded loop |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free; one free day per account. StreamNeo | Not a permanently free service, but a cloud alternative with a free first day. It is #1 for readers willing to move beyond a free-only setup: it runs from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
| OBS Studio | YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. It is a local software encoder connected to YouTube with a server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder guide | Best free starting point if you can keep a computer, connection, and stream process running. The cited guidance does not establish a turnkey unattended playlist or recovery workflow. |
| Streamloop | The vendor describes cloud-based continuous playlist streaming and signup credits sufficient for approximately one hour at standard quality. The stream pauses when credits run out. Streamloop | A short trial, not evidence of lasting free 24/7 operation. The hour is the vendor’s estimate, not an independent measurement. |
| OneStream Live | Its Help Center says the free plan is available indefinitely, but prerecorded streams are limited to 15 minutes, the maximum resolution is 720p, and playlist streaming is unavailable. The page was last updated August 24, 2026. OneStream Live’s free-plan details | Does not meet the documented requirements for a continuous prerecorded playlist. |
| Gyre | YouTube’s verified-encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams. YouTube’s encoder guide and directory | The directory does not establish a free plan or current price. Check the provider’s current terms before treating it as a free option. |
The comparison is about documented free access and workflow, not measured reliability. The available sources do not establish comparable unattended-restart or recovery performance for OBS, Streamloop, OneStream Live, or Gyre.
What “free” means for a 24/7 stream
OBS: free software, not free infrastructure
YouTube lists OBS as open-source and available at no charge. That removes a software license fee; it does not pay for electricity, internet service, hardware, or the time needed to monitor a local broadcast. Because OBS sends the encoder output from your computer, a local setup depends on that computer and connection staying available. This is an operational consequence of the setup, not a claim that OBS provides a cloud-hosted continuous loop.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cloud credits and free tiers have limits
Streamloop’s vendor-described signup credits amount to roughly one hour of standard-quality streaming, and the vendor says the stream pauses when credits run out. That can help you try the workflow, but it is not a free 24/7 service.
OneStream Live’s Help Center, last updated August 24, 2026, says its free plan can be used indefinitely, but also documents a 15-minute prerecorded-stream limit, no playlist streaming, and a 720p maximum. An indefinitely available plan is not the same as an indefinitely running prerecorded loop.

Set up a local YouTube stream with OBS
YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. For a software encoder, YouTube’s official workflow uses the server URL and stream key. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do that before scheduling a broadcast.
- Enable live streaming on your channel. Follow YouTube’s live-stream setup prompts and wait for activation; YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Confirm the channel is eligible before preparing a long broadcast.
- Install OBS Studio. Download OBS from its official site and complete its initial setup. OBS is the no-license-cost encoder identified by YouTube; it runs on your own computer.
- Create or open the YouTube live control room. In YouTube Studio, create the live stream and locate its stream settings. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select the YouTube service (or the custom server option if needed), then enter the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password; do not share it or show it on screen.
- Set the stream’s video and audio in OBS. Choose settings that your computer and connection can sustain. YouTube’s cited encoder guide establishes the URL-and-key workflow but does not prescribe a bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for this specific setup; use YouTube’s current live-control-room guidance and OBS’s current recommendations for the selected resolution rather than relying on a guessed universal value.
- Prepare the prerecorded source. Add the video file as a media source in OBS, configure looping in the source’s properties if you want the same file to repeat, and check that both picture and sound play as intended. For multiple videos, create and test the scene/source workflow before going live; the sources cited here do not verify a ready-made unattended playlist or automatic recovery feature in OBS.
- Start the encoder, then verify the stream in YouTube Studio. Start streaming in OBS and check that YouTube receives the signal and displays the expected picture and audio. Start the public broadcast using the control-room options shown for the event, then monitor it long enough to confirm the handoff.
- Keep the local setup available. For the stream to continue, leave the computer awake, OBS running, and internet connection active. Prevent sleep or automatic restart from interrupting the broadcast, and have a plan to notice and restart it if the encoder or connection stops.
Check rights, eligibility, and YouTube limits before going live
- Use cleared material. Make sure you own the video and audio or have permission that covers public livestreaming. A prerecorded format does not exempt the stream from copyright rules.
- Follow YouTube’s policies. YouTube says live content must comply with its Community Guidelines and that it may remove or restrict streams that violate its rules. Review the current YouTube live-streaming policies and help before broadcasting.
- Confirm age and channel eligibility. YouTube’s live-stream help page, accessed October 3, 2026, states a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Check the current requirements for the channel and account you plan to use.
- Account for concurrency limits. YouTube’s live-stream help page, accessed October 3, 2026, documents a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. If you are running multiple broadcasts, stay within those limits.
- Do not assume streaming creates monetization or discovery benefits. The documented setup and service limits do not establish audience growth, monetization eligibility, or guaranteed watch time.
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube has not enabled live streaming yet: complete the channel’s enablement flow and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS signal: check that the server URL and stream key match the active YouTube event, the key has not been exposed or replaced, and the computer has an active internet connection.
- The stream stops when you leave: a local encoder relies on your computer and connection. Check sleep settings, power, network stability, OBS status, and whether the source remains active.
- A cloud free offer stops unexpectedly: verify the provider’s runtime, credit balance, and playlist restrictions. Streamloop says its stream pauses when its signup credits run out; OneStream Live’s free plan does not support playlist streaming and caps prerecorded streams at 15 minutes.
- The video appears but the audio does not: check the source’s audio output and OBS mixer meters, then confirm the YouTube preview has sound before leaving the stream unattended.
- The broadcast is restricted or removed: review the stream against YouTube’s Community Guidelines and copyright requirements, then check channel eligibility and active-stream limits in YouTube’s help pages.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account; the Monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts.
