For one scheduled playback, YouTube Premiere is the simplest free option; for a live stream fed by an encoder, OBS Studio is the clearest free choice. Neither provides unattended, continuous cloud playout by itself: OBS depends on the computer running it, while Premiere plays an uploaded video once rather than sending an encoder feed. If your goal is a recurring or 24/7 stream that keeps running after you switch off your computer, consider a cloud service such as StreamNeo; it is not a free service beyond its one-day trial.
Choose the workflow that matches your broadcast
A finished video can reach viewers in two different ways: YouTube can play an uploaded video as a scheduled Premiere, or an encoder can send video to YouTube Live in real time. The distinction matters because scheduling a live event does not automatically start software on your computer, and a Premiere is not an encoder-fed live broadcast.
| Option | What viewers get | Does your computer need to stay on? | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube Premiere | An uploaded video plays at a scheduled time, with chat beside it. | No encoder computer is required for playback. | One finished video, played once as a scheduled event. |
| OBS Studio | An encoder-fed YouTube Live broadcast. | Yes. The computer running OBS must stay on and connected for the broadcast. | A free, locally controlled stream that an operator can start and monitor. |
| StreamYard | A scheduled stream can use a prerecorded video source for YouTube. | The documented workflow is browser-based; confirm the current plan and setup requirements. | Creators who want a browser workflow and have verified the feature is included in their plan. |
| Cloud playout service | A service sends prerecorded video to YouTube from the cloud. | No local encoder computer needs to remain on for cloud playback. | Recurring, unattended, or continuous streams. Confirm current price and plan limits with the provider. |
Free options for one-time playback and hands-on streaming
YouTube Premiere: schedule one uploaded video
Choose Premiere when you have one finished video and want it to play at a selected time with chat alongside it. The reviewed comparison presents Premiere as free and requiring no separate encoder software. It is a scheduled playback of an uploaded YouTube video, not a live feed sent by OBS or another encoder. See the LiveReacting guide for its description of the Premiere workflow.
Premiere is a strong fit for a documentary screening or other one-off release. It is not the right answer if you need a video to repeat all day or want a continuous encoder-fed stream.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
OBS Studio: free encoder, operated on your computer
YouTube’s official encoder directory describes OBS as “Open-source software for video recording and live streaming at no charge.” OBS is the clearest free desktop choice when you want to send a prerecorded video through an encoder as a YouTube Live broadcast. You control the broadcast, but the computer running OBS and its internet connection must remain available while it is live. The official software directory is at YouTube Help.
OBS alone is not a managed cloud scheduler: scheduling a YouTube event does not make OBS launch or keep transmitting automatically. If you need unattended starts or continuous playout, plan for a separately managed computer workflow or use a cloud service.

Browser-based scheduling: check the plan before relying on it
StreamYard prerecorded streams
StreamYard’s help flow documents selecting “Pre-recorded video” as the source and then “Schedule for Later,” with YouTube among the supported destinations. The help page does not establish whether this feature is available on the current free plan or specify file and duration limits. Verify those points in the provider’s current plan and support information before choosing it as a free solution. See StreamYard’s scheduling instructions.
A separate StreamYard guide, last updated 2026-01-16, says prerecorded streams can be up to 8 hours depending on plan; it does not establish that an eight-hour stream is included free. Treat the limit as plan-dependent and check the current details directly: StreamYard’s 2026 guide.

For recurring or 24/7 broadcasts, look at cloud playout
If a stream must run after your computer is off, or repeat on a schedule, cloud playout addresses a different job from free desktop software. YouTube’s official software directory lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming and Upstream for 24/7 live video streaming. Those directory entries describe their use case; they do not establish current price, free access, or independent performance. Check each provider’s current plans and terms before committing. See YouTube’s software directory.
StreamNeo: cloud playback for an always-on YouTube channel
For 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it keeps the stream running from the cloud, supports uploads as made up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and gives each account one free day without a card. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.

Before you schedule or go live
- Confirm channel eligibility. A LiveReacting guide published 2026-06-28 says its review of YouTube rules was checked against official pages on 2026-08-23. It states that live streaming requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and that first activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube requirements can change, so check the current official requirements before scheduling: LiveReacting’s guide.
- Choose the broadcast type deliberately. A Premiere plays an uploaded video once at a scheduled time; an encoder stream sends video to YouTube Live. Do not assume one workflow starts or controls the other.
- Check rights and platform rules. Make sure you have the rights needed to stream the video and its music, footage, and other material. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream policies; permission to upload a video does not automatically establish permission to rebroadcast it.
- Verify plan limits before an event. Browser and cloud providers may change feature access, duration caps, pricing, and plan terms. Confirm the current terms for your account and destination rather than assuming a feature described in a help article is free.
Which should you choose?
- One scheduled showing, no encoder: use YouTube Premiere.
- Free encoder stream with direct operator control: use OBS, and keep the computer and connection running for the broadcast.
- Browser-scheduled prerecorded video: StreamYard documents the workflow, but verify free-plan access and limits first.
- Repeated, unattended, or 24/7 playback: consider cloud playout; verify provider pricing and plan limits. StreamNeo offers cloud looping for YouTube with a free first day and the same quality allowance up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
