Is Home Alone the highest-grossing Christmas movie?
Not in this nominal worldwide ranking: The Grinch (2018) is first, and Home Alone is second. Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007) also places third, just ahead of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992).
#1 Best Overall
The answer changes with the comparison being made. Box Office Mojo’s Christmas Theme chart is a domestic-gross ranking and puts Home Alone first, with The Grinch (2018) second. The Numbers also labels its separate chart as a worldwide box-office ranking. A domestic chart and a worldwide chart measure different markets.

- Geography: The list above ranks reported worldwide theatrical gross; domestic-only charts can have a different order.
- Money basis: The listed totals are nominal dollars, not adjusted for inflation. They therefore do not show which movie sold the most tickets or reached the largest audience.
- Christmas-film definition: The compilation includes films it classifies as Christmas-themed. The label is a matter of inclusion criteria, not a universal genre test.
There are two different Grinch films in the top five: the animated The Grinch (2018) at number one and the live-action Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) at number five. Their titles and years matter when comparing totals.
