What Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is about
Tim Burton’s sequel follows three generations of the Deetz family after an unexpected tragedy brings them back to Winter River. Astrid discovers the miniature model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally reopened. Beetlejuice returns when his name is said three times, threatening to turn Lydia’s family and career upside down.

Returning Deetz family members
Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice
Keaton reprises the role that gives the sequel its title. Beetlejuice is a rule-bending demon whose interest in Lydia is both personal and disruptive. Saying his name three times brings him back, making the phrase a dangerous trigger rather than a casual reference.
Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz
Lydia is no longer the isolated teenager from the original film. She is an adult and the host of Ghost House, a paranormal television program that shapes her professional life. Her connection to Beetlejuice remains unresolved, while her relationship with Astrid places the supernatural conflict inside her family.
Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz
Delia returns as Lydia’s flamboyant stepmother. Her eccentric personality remains part of the Deetz household as the family reunites in Winter River.

The new Deetz generation
Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz
Astrid is Lydia’s rebellious teenage daughter and the sequel’s main gateway into the mystery. She finds the miniature model of Winter River in the attic; that discovery accidentally reopens the portal to the Afterlife. Ortega’s casting makes Astrid the key link between the legacy characters and a new generation.
Justin Theroux as Rory
Rory is Lydia’s manager and boyfriend. Because he is tied to Ghost House, he connects Lydia’s public paranormal persona with the family’s private supernatural crisis.
Afterlife characters and sequel newcomers
Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson
Wolf Jackson is an Afterlife figure named in Netflix Tudum’s character list. Dafoe’s role belongs to the sequel’s expanded supernatural world rather than the core Deetz household.

Astrid’s discovery reopens the conflict
The family returns to Winter River after a tragedy, but Astrid’s attic discovery changes the situation. The miniature town model provides the route back to the Afterlife and makes Lydia’s daughter an active participant in the supernatural plot.
Lydia is caught between family and career
Lydia’s work on Ghost House and her relationship with Rory give her a life beyond the original haunting. Beetlejuice’s return threatens that adult stability while forcing her to protect Astrid.

Beetlejuice remains the unpredictable catalyst
The three-name rule gives Beetlejuice a clear entrance into the story, but his motives are personal as well as chaotic: he wants to marry Lydia and uses the resulting Afterlife disorder to pursue that goal.
