That is a critical verdict, not a unanimous one: some reviewers and many audience raters were more receptive.
What is Bade Miyan Chote Miyan about?
Ali Abbas Zafar’s 2024 Hindi action film stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff as two officers recruited by Colonel Azad after a masked enemy targets India’s military and steals a dangerous weapon. The premise also involves an AI soldier-cloning idea, as noted in The Indian Express review.
Yash Raj Films credits Zafar as director and co-writer, alongside Aditya Basu. The principal cast includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F and Ronit B Roy. The film’s setup promises a high-stakes military thriller; the central problem, according to several reviewers, is that the plot and action do not remain clear or convincing enough to sustain that promise.
Does the action make up for the story?
There is plenty of action, but quantity is not the same as clarity. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express wrote, “The worst thing about this new ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ is not just that it is all noise and fury, signifying exactly nothing.” Her review argues that the spectacle leaves little lasting impression: “But nothing and no one sticks.”

Bollywood Hungama’s review also faults the weak script and poor dialogue. Taken together, these criticisms point to a film in which the set pieces may be large, but the connective story and the action’s coherence are less persuasive.
What works better
The film has supporters among critics, even if the most prominent reviews cited here lean negative. A Times of India snippet displayed by BookMyShow praises the leads’ chemistry and cheeky punches as a driver of the action, while Bollywood Hungama allows that fans of the stars or action films may find it a decent watch. Those are judgments about its entertainment appeal, not proof that the story holds together.

The gap between critical and audience figures is a reason to treat ratings as context rather than a final verdict. The critical case against the film centers on writing, logic and whether the action can be followed; a viewer drawn chiefly to the stars, scale or action may weigh those shortcomings differently.

The film is a better fit for viewers who prioritize star-led spectacle and action over a tightly constructed plot. If your enjoyment depends on clear cause and effect, legible set pieces, or jokes and character dynamics that land consistently, the reviews suggest a higher risk of frustration.
For a useful comparison with another action film, consider five things separately: plot coherence, how readable and varied the action is, whether the leads’ chemistry and humor work, how the runtime affects pacing, and how much plausibility matters to you. These are viewing criteria, not measured ratings.

These listings may reflect different territories or release-day conventions, so the date depends on the source and market. Runtime listings also vary: BookMyShow gives 2h 38m, Rotten Tomatoes 2h 40m, and JustWatch 2h 44m. The BBFC record gives 162 minutes 58 seconds for its UK cinema version and classifies that version for strong violence and bloody images, including stylized fights, firearms and explosions.
