Tim Burton’s Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake is a real Warner Bros. project in development, but it is not yet a dated, completed, or fully cast movie. Burton remains attached to direct and produce, LuckyChap is attached to produce and develop it, and Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are the writers on the latest reported screenplay. Margot Robbie has been reported as being in early talks to star and produce, but Warner Bros. has not publicly confirmed her as cast. No verified release date, trailer, final cast list, or official confirmation that filming has taken place has been announced in the reporting reviewed through August 12, 2026.
Current status of the remake
The most accurate description is: a Warner Bros. Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake in active development, with Tim Burton attached and a new screenplay assignment in place.

The project was first reported in February 2024. At that point, TheWrap reported that Burton was developing the remake for Warner Bros., was expected to direct, and had Gillian Flynn attached to write. The report described it as Burton’s next planned film following Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, although the proposed approach—whether a relatively faithful adaptation or a major reinvention—was not known.
The latest substantive update came from Variety in January 2026. Warner Bros. had hired Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan to write a new screenplay, while Burton remained attached to direct and produce. LuckyChap also remained involved as a producing and developing partner.

Tim Burton’s role and the production team
Burton is attached in two capacities: director and producer. That makes his involvement more substantial than a simple early-stage director rumor, but an attachment is not the same as a completed production or a locked release schedule.
The reported producing team includes Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper, with Kai Dolbashian serving as executive producer. LuckyChap is attached to produce and develop the film. The company is led by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, with Morgan Begg overseeing the project for LuckyChap.
Those credits come from the January 2026 Variety report on the updated screenplay and creative package. They should not be confused with a formal Warner Bros. production announcement containing a release plan, finalized cast, or shooting schedule.
Who is writing the new screenplay?
Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are the writers attached to the latest reported version. Their hiring represents a change from the project’s original reported script history.

Gillian Flynn, the author of Gone Girl and the screenwriter of its film adaptation, wrote an earlier draft. In its 2025 report, Variety said Flynn had exited because of other commitments and that the producing team was looking for a new writer.
Accordingly, Flynn should be described as the writer of an earlier screenplay, not as the current writer. The available reporting also does not establish how much of Flynn’s draft, if any, remains in the Jimenez and McMechan version. No official plot outline for the new screenplay has been released.

Is Margot Robbie confirmed to star?
No. Margot Robbie’s possible acting role remains unconfirmed.
In August 2025, Variety reported that Robbie was in early conversations to join the project. She was being considered as a producer with her LuckyChap partners and was also possibly being considered for the lead role. The report specifically qualified the acting possibility: whether she would star depended on the final version of the screenplay.
The safe wording is therefore that Robbie was reported to be in early talks or was being eyed to star. It is too strong to say that she is confirmed as the film’s lead. LuckyChap’s involvement as a company does not, by itself, confirm Robbie’s casting.
No other final cast members have been publicly identified in the sources reviewed. There is also no indication that Allison Hayes, Daryl Hannah, or any other performer from an earlier version is attached to the new film.
Release date: why there is no confirmed 2026 premiere
Warner Bros. has not publicly announced a release date for the remake. It should be labeled undated and in development, rather than described as a confirmed 2026 release.
A user-maintained IMDb page lists possible London filming dates from February 1 through June 5, 2026, but the same page says that production dates are unavailable. You can see the conflicting information on the IMDb locations page. That entry is not sufficient evidence that principal photography happened, much less that filming wrapped.

No major trade report or official studio communication reviewed through August 12, 2026 independently confirms those dates. Until Warner Bros., Burton’s production team, the filmmakers, or a major trade publication verifies production, the remake’s filming status remains uncertain.
What has not been announced
Readers should be cautious with database listings, social-media posts, and speculative entertainment articles that turn development information into finished-film news. The following details remain unverified in the available reporting:
- a release date or release window;
- whether the film is intended for theaters, streaming, or both;
- a completed or final cast list;
- an official synopsis beyond the broad premise inherited from the 1958 film;
- an official trailer, teaser, poster, or production still;
- the production budget;
- the cinematographer and other department heads;
- a confirmed distributor schedule or streaming destination; and
- official confirmation that principal photography has begun or concluded.
There is also no verified information about whether Burton’s version will preserve the original film’s period setting, substantially modernize the story, change the protagonist’s circumstances, or reinterpret the science-fiction and horror elements. The 2024 reporting did not establish whether the remake would be faithful or radically reinvented.
What is the original Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman about?
The upcoming film is based on the 1958 science-fiction picture, whose title is also commonly styled Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. According to the AFI Catalog, the original was released in the United States in June 1958. It was a 65-minute, black-and-white American science-fiction drama directed by Nathan Hertz, also known as Nathan Juran, and written by Mark Hanna.
Allison Hayes played Nancy Fowler Archer, with William Hudson as her husband, Harry Archer, and Yvette Vickers as Honey Parker. The story centers on Nancy, a wealthy heiress whose encounter with a mysterious alien figure and its sphere leads to her transformation into a giant.
Her physical transformation intersects with a more personal betrayal: Harry is unfaithful. Nancy’s growing size, anger, and attempts to confront the people who have wronged her drive the film toward a destructive final confrontation. The premise combines alien science fiction, monster-movie spectacle, marital betrayal, and revenge—elements that give a modern remake several possible directions without confirming any particular new interpretation.

The 1993 television remake
Burton’s project would not be the first reworking of the property. The AFI Catalog records a separate HBO television remake broadcast on December 11, 1993. That version starred Daryl Hannah and was directed by Christopher Guest.
The 1993 film is a distinct television production, not an earlier title for Burton’s Warner Bros. movie. It is useful context because it shows that the property has already been reimagined once, but the existence of the HBO version does not provide evidence about the new film’s cast, plot, release strategy, or production status.

How to watch the original before the remake
The 1958 movie is the best available way to understand the source material while the new project remains undefined. JustWatch’s United States availability check dated July 1, 2026 listed purchase options through retailers including Amazon, as well as a digital purchase listing through Amazon Video. Availability, sellers, formats, and prices can change by country and over time.
For viewers who prefer physical media, check availability for the original Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman on DVD. Collectors can also look for the Warner Archive Blu-ray, but should verify current stock and edition details before purchasing. These are releases of the 1958 film, not merchandise or home-video editions of Burton’s still-unreleased remake.
The 1993 Daryl Hannah television remake is relevant for comparison, but current physical-media availability for that version is not established by the sources reviewed here, so it should not be presented as an equally well-supported purchase recommendation.
What would count as a genuine update?
The next meaningful confirmation would likely be an announcement from Warner Bros. or a reliable trade report providing one or more of the following:

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman remake definitely happening?
It is a genuine Warner Bros. development project with Tim Burton attached to direct and produce, a reported screenplay assignment for Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, and LuckyChap attached to produce and develop it. However, there is no public confirmation that it has completed production or received a release date.
Is Margot Robbie confirmed as the star?
No. Variety reported in August 2025 that Robbie was in early talks to potentially star and produce through LuckyChap. Her acting involvement was said to depend on the final screenplay, so she should not be listed as confirmed cast.
Is Gillian Flynn still writing the remake?
Not according to the latest reported information. Flynn wrote an earlier draft but was reported to have exited because of other commitments. Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan were later hired to write the latest reported screenplay.

No 2026 release has been verified. A user-maintained IMDb page contains possible London filming dates but also says production dates are unavailable, and no studio or major-trade confirmation establishes that filming occurred. The film remains undated.
Is the 1993 Daryl Hannah movie the same remake?
No. The 1993 version was a separate HBO television remake directed by Christopher Guest. Burton’s project is a new Warner Bros. reimagining of the same underlying 1958 property.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The remake is confirmed as a Warner Bros. project, not as a finished or dated movie. Tim Burton is attached to direct and produce; Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are the writers on the latest reported screenplay; and LuckyChap is involved. Margot Robbie’s participation remains early-stage and unconfirmed as casting. Until Warner Bros. announces production, distribution, or a release date, treat every stronger claim as speculation.
