Spoilers for all of Arcane season one. Vi and Powder’s bond breaks after a disastrous rescue attempt, and Powder grows up as Jinx under Silco’s influence. Meanwhile, Piltover’s Hextech advances the city’s power while Zaun struggles under its rule. The season ends with Jinx firing a rocket at the Piltover Council just as it considers peace with Zaun; the council’s fate is left unresolved.
Why the sisters’ lives split apart
Vi and Powder are sisters from Zaun, the undercity beneath the wealthy city of Piltover. As children, they join their crew in a theft from the Piltover apartment of Jayce, a young inventor. Powder’s use of stolen arcane crystals triggers an explosion, drawing the enforcers—the force that polices Piltover—into the undercity and setting the sisters’ troubles in motion. Netflix Tudum’s season-one recap traces that chain of consequences.
Later, a rescue attempt goes disastrously wrong and leaves the sisters separated after a devastating loss. Vi is taken away, while Silco, a Zaunite power broker and longtime adversary of Vander, takes Powder in. He gives her the name Jinx. The name is bound up with her painful past, but it is also the identity she builds while growing up with Silco.
Why Powder becomes Jinx—and why Vi cannot simply bring her back
Jinx’s choices are shaped by two powerful attachments: her bond with Silco, who raised her, and her longing for Vi, the sister she lost. Years after their separation, Vi returns to the conflict with Caitlyn, a Piltover enforcer. Their search brings the sisters face to face, but the reunion does not erase the history between them. Vi sees the person she remembers; Jinx has become someone shaped by years apart and by Silco’s influence.

That fracture is personal, but it also reflects the wider divide between the cities. Vi and Jinx have different ideas of what loyalty and belonging mean, and Jinx’s relationship with Silco complicates any attempt by Vi to reclaim their old connection. The show does not reduce Jinx’s transformation to one moment: the failed rescue and loss, separation from Vi, and life with Silco all matter.
Why Piltover and Zaun are in conflict
Piltover is wealthy and politically powerful; Zaun is the undercity living beneath it, subject to Piltover’s authority and enforcement. Silco pursues Zaun’s independence while building influence through crime and Shimmer, a substance that gives people power at a cost. Vander’s history with both the sisters and Silco makes the political struggle intimate: the fight over Zaun’s future is also a fight among people whose lives have been intertwined for years.

Silco’s campaign for independence and the council’s negotiations make peace a real possibility by the finale, but they do not resolve the personal and political harms that came before. Silco dies, leaving Jinx to decide who she is without him and what her relationship with Vi can be.
What Hextech changes—and what Shimmer represents
In Piltover, Jayce and Viktor develop Hextech, technology that harnesses arcane power. Their invention gives the city a new source of capability, but it also carries public and political consequences: whoever controls powerful new technology can shape the balance between Piltover and Zaun. For Viktor, the work is not just an ambitious project; his declining health gives it personal urgency.
Hextech and Shimmer offer sharply different forms of power. Hextech is an engineered technology developed in Piltover; Shimmer is tied to Silco’s criminal network and control in Zaun. One is presented as invention with civic and political stakes, the other as a tool within Silco’s underworld power. Both make the question of who gets power—and who pays for it—central to the conflict.
What happens at the end of season one
After Silco’s death, Jinx takes the gemstone-powered weapon she has made and fires a rocket at the Piltover Council chamber. At that moment, the council is considering a peace agreement that would grant Zaun independence. The season cuts as the rocket hits. It does not reveal whether the council members survive, so their fate is the central cliffhanger.

What to expect at the start of season two
Netflix Tudum’s season-two guide frames the continuation around the aftermath of Jinx’s attack and says Vi teams up with Caitlyn. That is the immediate setup: a strike on Piltover’s leadership, a peace effort thrown into uncertainty, and Vi and Caitlyn facing what Jinx has done. The recap stops there rather than revealing later season-two events.
Do you need to know League of Legends to follow the story?
No game knowledge is needed to understand the season-one recap or its central conflicts. Netflix describes Arcane as a series that explores the backstories of League of Legends characters; the show presents the relevant relationships, cities and technology within its own story. Its principal voices include Hailee Steinfeld as Vi, Ella Purnell as Jinx, Katie Leung as Caitlyn, Kevin Alejandro as Jayce and Harry Lloyd as Viktor.
