Apple carried the FireAid benefit concert through Apple Music and the Apple TV app on January 30, 2025. It was not an Apple-exclusive Apple TV+ production: the Los Angeles wildfire fundraiser was distributed across a large network of streaming, social, radio, broadcast and theater partners. FireAid later estimated that the event and related fundraising generated approximately $100 million.
What Apple actually streamed
The original announcement, published January 17, 2025, described Apple as one participant in a broad FireAid distribution partnership. Viewers could find the concert in Apple Music and in the Apple TV app. Some contemporary technology coverage called this “Apple TV+,” but that shorthand can be misleading: Apple TV+ is Apple’s subscription service, while the Apple TV app is the video application listed in the official event materials.
Apple also promoted a separate wildfire-relief donation prompt in the U.S. through the App Store and Apple Music. AppleInsider reported that those contributions were collected by Apple and passed to the American Red Cross; they should not be confused with donations made through FireAid’s own fundraising operation.
9to5Mac’s January 17 report, Apple’s App Store editorial page and the official partner announcement document the distinction.

When and where FireAid took place
FireAid was held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, across two Inglewood venues: Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum. The split-venue format allowed a large lineup and audience while presenting a coordinated broadcast.
Published start times were not identical. General event coverage promoted the main broadcast at about 6 p.m. Pacific (9 p.m. Eastern), while Apple’s App Store listing used 7 p.m. Pacific (10 p.m. Eastern). Those differences reflect venue programming and platform viewing windows rather than two separate concerts. The event itself is now historical, not an upcoming stream.
Why FireAid was organized
The concert responded to the January 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires. FireAid’s stated mission combined three goals:
- Immediate relief for people and communities affected by the fires.
- Long-term recovery and rebuilding.
- Work intended to reduce the risk and impact of future fire disasters in Southern California.
That scope matters: FireAid was designed as more than a one-night emergency appeal. Its grant program addressed housing, food, trauma counseling, childcare, animal welfare, small businesses, displaced workers, environmental remediation, soil testing, permitting assistance, community infrastructure and wildfire preparedness. The organization’s mission and later updates are collected at FireAid.org and in its progress report.
Where viewers could watch
FireAid used an unusually wide distribution strategy to maximize reach and donations. The official partner list included:

Availability was not necessarily identical on every service. Country restrictions, account requirements, video quality, replay rights and local programming could vary, so an international viewer should check the individual platform rather than assume that the U.S. distribution list applied worldwide.
Was the stream free?
Most online options were broadly accessible without buying an in-person concert ticket; YouTube and social platforms, for example, offered a practical way to watch without a ticket purchase. However, “free everywhere” is too broad. Veeps was reported as offering a paid stream in some markets, and each service could impose its own geographic or account rules. In-person tickets and online viewing were separate products. KQED’s viewing guide and ABC’s international explainer describe those differences.
Performers and the two-venue lineup
Announcements named a large roster of artists. Early lists could change, and not every report specified the final venue assignment or running order, so the names below should be read as the announced lineup rather than a promise of a particular set time:

How donations worked
FireAid’s own fundraising and Apple’s American Red Cross prompt were distinct channels. FireAid said contributions connected to the concert would be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation and related grantmaking structures. The money was awarded through nonprofit and community organizations; FireAid did not describe the program as the organization sending one direct payment to every individual survivor.
The historical Ballmer match
Steve and Connie Ballmer pledged to match qualifying donations made during the broadcast and video-on-demand period. FireAid’s progress report recorded $14,114,306 in individual broadcast and VOD donations and a corresponding match. The arrangement was scheduled to end on January 30, 2026, so it should not be presented as an active incentive now. Any current contribution should be checked against FireAid’s official donation page.

What happened to the money
FireAid later estimated that the event and related fundraising raised approximately $100 million. Its published grant updates show how that estimate translated into programs:
| Stage | Amount and use |
|---|---|
| First grant round | $50 million distributed to more than 120 nonprofit organizations for immediate relief. FireAid’s announcement |
| Second grant round | Approximately $25 million for recovery and rebuilding, bringing announced distributions to approximately $75 million at that stage. FireAid’s announcement |
| Overall result | Approximately $100 million raised, an estimate subject to final accounting and verification. FireAid’s official site |
Grant-supported work included temporary and permanent housing, food assistance, mental-health and trauma services, childcare, animal care, small-business support, help for displaced workers, environmental cleanup, soil testing, permitting and rebuilding assistance, community infrastructure and prevention projects. The amounts describe grants to frontline organizations, not a claim that every dollar was handed directly to individual fire victims.
Replay access and current status
In February 2025, organizers reported extending on-demand access for one year. That extension was tied to the period after the live event and should not be read as proof that the original stream remains available in 2026. The livestream is over, the Ballmer matching period has ended, and FireAid’s website is the appropriate place to check any current donation, grant or financial-update information.
FireAid also published an independent investigative report by Latham & Watkins that found no evidence of misuse or misappropriation in its review: read the report. Its financial progress document notes that figures were preliminary and subject to audit and final verification: view the progress report.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did viewers need an Apple subscription to watch FireAid?
No single Apple subscription was required in the event’s broad distribution model. Apple carried it through Apple Music and the Apple TV app, while many other platforms also offered access. Individual services could still impose their own account or regional rules.
