Apple’s Exclusive F1 Deal Begins in 2026: What U.S. Fans Can Expect

Apple becomes Formula 1’s exclusive U.S. broadcast home in 2026. Here is what the $12.99 subscription includes, where to watch, what remains free, how F1 TV fits in, and why the 2026 technical reset matters.

For U.S. fans, Apple TV becomes Formula 1’s exclusive broadcast home starting with the 2026 season. The five-year deal covers every practice session, qualifying session, Sprint, and Grand Prix live and on demand. Apple’s announced U.S. price is $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial, but viewers do not need Apple hardware—and free practice, selected race weekends, Yahoo Sports coverage, and Tubi alternate broadcasts offer several ways to watch without committing to the full package.

Scope: This agreement applies to the United States. It does not make Apple TV the worldwide home of Formula 1.

What changes for U.S. F1 viewers in 2026

Apple and Formula 1 have agreed to a five-year partnership that makes Apple TV the exclusive U.S. broadcast home of Formula 1 beginning with the 2026 season. The change replaces the previous ESPN-centered U.S. arrangement for the championship package and gives Apple TV the rights to the entire season rather than only selected races.

For a U.S. viewer, that means Apple TV is the primary destination for every practice session, qualifying session, Sprint, and Grand Prix. The sessions will be available live and on demand, alongside replays, highlights, interviews, press conferences, and other F1 programming.

The simplest way to think about the deal is this: a full-season U.S. fan will need an Apple TV subscription, but will not need an Apple-made television, phone, tablet, or streaming box. The Apple TV app is also coming to a wide range of existing televisions, streaming devices, consoles, partner platforms, and web browsers.

What an Apple TV subscription includes

Apple’s U.S. F1 package is designed to cover the whole championship:

  • Every Grand Prix live and on demand.
  • Every practice session.
  • Every qualifying session.
  • Sprint sessions at designated Sprint weekends.
  • Full replays and highlights.
  • Interviews, press conferences, and related F1 programming.
  • English and Spanish commentary options.
  • Access to F1 TV and Sky Sports broadcast feeds when viewers select F1 content in Apple TV.

This is a significant distinction from a package that carries only the Sunday races. Fans who follow the sport from the first practice lap through qualifying and the race will have one main subscription destination for the complete championship schedule.

Apple TV can mean three different things, so it is worth separating them:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Apple TV subscription: the paid streaming service that includes the U.S. F1 package.
  • Apple TV app: the software used to watch on supported televisions, devices, consoles, phones, tablets, computers, and the web.
  • Apple TV 4K: Apple’s separate streaming box. It is an optional piece of hardware, not a requirement for watching F1.

Price: what a full-season viewer should budget

Apple lists the U.S. Apple TV subscription at $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial. Formula 1 is included in the subscription rather than requiring a separate F1 sports add-on, according to Apple’s announced package.

Prices, trial eligibility, and subscription terms can change, so readers should confirm the current offer at signup. The important budgeting point is that the announced F1 package does not require a second sports subscription on top of Apple TV.

A complete viewing budget may still include broadband service and, if the viewer wants a dedicated living-room setup, optional streaming hardware or a compatible display. There is no reason to buy an Apple TV 4K merely to gain access to the races. The app is supported on many devices people may already own.

Where you can watch

In the United States, Apple lists the Apple TV app on:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • iPhone and iPad
  • Mac
  • Apple TV 4K
  • Apple Vision Pro
  • Compatible Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, and TCL smart TVs
  • Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices
  • Chromecast with Google TV
  • PlayStation and Xbox consoles
  • Web browsers through tv.apple.com

Apple also lists distribution through Xfinity, DIRECTV, Roku Premium Subscriptions, and Prime Video subscriptions that add Apple TV. Partner-platform availability, billing, and account requirements can differ, so a viewer should check the service already used in the household rather than assuming a new device is necessary.

The practical result is broader than the phrase Apple exclusive may suggest. The exclusive part concerns the U.S. broadcast home and rights package. It does not mean that only Apple hardware can display the coverage.

Do you need Apple TV 4K for F1?

No. Apple TV 4K is the most natural dedicated option for a living-room viewer who wants a set-top box and access to features such as Multiview, but it is not mandatory. A compatible smart TV, streaming stick, game console, computer, iPhone, iPad, or Vision Pro can be enough.

Apple says Multiview can show up to four feeds simultaneously on supported hardware, including Apple TV 4K, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. That could let a viewer combine the primary broadcast with onboard cameras, timing information, or another available race feed. Support for particular layouts and feeds can depend on the device and the content being watched.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If using Apple TV 4K for 4K or HDR viewing, Apple says a compatible 4K/HDR television and HDMI cable are required. Apple recommends HDMI 2.0 or later for 4K HDR and says HDMI 2.1 enables the full feature set of the device. That does not mean every F1 viewer needs an HDMI 2.1 cable: it matters when the television, Apple TV 4K model, and desired picture features support and require that specification.

Setup checklist:

  1. Confirm that the television, streaming device, console, or browser supports the Apple TV app.
  2. Install the app or open the web version and sign in with the account used for the Apple TV subscription.
  3. Choose the main English or Spanish presentation, or explore the available F1 TV and Sky Sports feeds.
  4. If using Apple TV 4K, verify the display’s 4K/HDR compatibility and use an appropriate HDMI cable.
  5. Check the event listing before each race weekend for the sessions and any free-access designation.

Shopping note: product links on this page may be monetized, but buying Apple hardware is optional for watching F1. Do not purchase a new television or cable unless it matches the picture-quality features you actually want.

What can you watch for free?

The transition is not simply a choice between paying for Apple TV or missing Formula 1. Apple has announced several free entry points, although none should be confused with the complete subscription package.

Every practice session

Apple’s official viewing information says every practice session will be available without a subscription. That gives casual viewers a way to sample the new coverage and lets committed fans follow the earliest track running without immediately paying for the full package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Selected race weekends

Apple has also said that selected race weekends will be available free in the Apple TV app. The exact list of free race weekends can change, so it is not accurate to promise that every Grand Prix will be free. Check Apple’s current event listings before planning to watch a particular race without a subscription.

Yahoo Sports

Apple has partnered with Yahoo Sports to stream live practice and qualifying sessions in the United States. Yahoo’s practice coverage uses the main Apple TV broadcast feed. Its qualifying presentation uses a mixed onboard feed that switches between driver cameras, making it a different viewing experience from the standard broadcast rather than a simple duplicate of it.

Tubi alternate broadcasts

Tubi is offering free live alternate broadcasts for multiple races during the 2026 season. These are creator-led altcasts intended to broaden F1’s appeal, especially among younger and digitally native audiences. They are not a replacement for the complete Apple TV subscription and may not provide the standard commentary, camera direction, or presentation that a traditional race viewer expects.

IMAX and commercial venues

Apple has announced that selected IMAX theaters will show live 2026 F1 races. Availability will depend on the participating theaters and the specific events they schedule.

For bars, restaurants, and other commercial establishments, EverPass is handling commercial access. A venue should confirm its own commercial rights and availability rather than assuming that a normal household Apple TV subscription permits public exhibition.

What happens to F1 TV?

F1 TV remains important, but its U.S. role changes under the Apple arrangement. Formula 1 says Apple, as the official U.S. broadcaster, will host F1 TV within the Apple TV subscription for U.S. fans.

F1 TV is associated with the specialized tools that many experienced viewers value:

  • Multiple camera angles
  • Team radio
  • Live timing
  • Data overlays
  • UHD and HDR coverage where supported
  • Support-series content where available

That makes the new setup potentially more useful for data-focused fans, because the main broadcast and specialized feeds can be gathered in the same Apple TV environment. It also means viewers should not assume that the old F1 TV app, purchasing route, or feature list will remain identical in the United States. Functionality can vary by territory, subscription type, device, and the particular content selected.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The editorial distinction is straightforward: Apple TV is the required primary U.S. destination for live F1 championship coverage, while F1 TV remains the source of many of the sport’s specialized feeds and data-oriented viewing features.

How the Apple presentation could change the experience

Apple’s stated approach goes beyond putting an existing race feed inside another app. Its launch materials emphasize wider device availability, free entry points, alternate broadcasts, Apple Sports updates, and connections with Apple News and Apple Maps.

Apple Sports is intended to provide live updates, leaderboards, standings, Lock Screen Live Activities, and an iPhone widget for qualifying, Sprint, and race sessions. For someone watching on a television, that can make a phone a companion timing and notification screen. For someone who is away from the television, it offers a way to follow the session without treating a full video stream as the only way to keep up.

Multiview is the most visible potential upgrade for established fans. A traditional broadcast can be paired with an onboard camera, timing information, or another feed rather than forcing the viewer to switch repeatedly between screens. The exact usefulness will depend on which feeds are offered for a session and whether the viewer’s device supports the layout.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For newer fans, the more important change may be discoverability. Free practice sessions, selected free race weekends, Yahoo Sports coverage, Tubi altcasts, and access through common televisions and consoles provide several ways to encounter F1 before committing to a full-season subscription.

Those are reasonable implications of Apple’s announced distribution and product features, not guarantees that every viewer will prefer the new presentation. Some longtime fans may value the familiar broadcast style more than platform integration, while others may prefer the choice of feeds and data.

Why 2026 is more than a broadcasting change

Apple’s arrival coincides with one of Formula 1’s largest technical resets in years. The 2026 regulations introduce a redesigned power unit with a substantially larger electrical contribution, remove the MGU-H, require 100% sustainable fuel, add active aerodynamics, and pursue a lighter car concept.

The rules also introduce a Manual Override system intended to provide an on-demand electrical-power advantage in certain situations. The FIA’s stated goals include closer racing, improved efficiency, and greater relevance to road-car technology.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For viewers, the technical reset should create a fresh storyline alongside the rights change. Teams must adapt to a different power-unit balance, energy-management demands, aerodynamic philosophy, and car design target. But the framework should not be treated as permanently settled in every detail. After pre-season testing and early-season feedback, the FIA approved amendments involving compression-ratio monitoring and further evaluation of energy-management rules.

That matters when interpreting early races. A team’s initial performance may reflect not only driver or chassis quality but also how successfully it understands an evolving technical framework. Coverage that includes timing, onboard footage, team radio, and technical analysis will be especially useful during this transition.

The 2026 calendar and the new teams to watch

The 2026 calendar contains 24 rounds. It begins with the Australian Grand Prix on March 6–8 and ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 4–6. At the calendar snapshot dated August 12, 2026, the championship had completed the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the Dutch Grand Prix scheduled for August 21–23 as the next round.

Two team stories add to the season’s significance:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Audi: Audi enters Formula 1 after taking over the former Sauber operation.
  • Cadillac: Cadillac debuts as Formula 1’s 11th team. Its 2026 race drivers are Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas. The team initially uses Ferrari power units, while a General Motors power unit is planned for a later phase currently associated with 2029.

These changes give viewers more than a new app interface to follow. The 2026 season combines a new U.S. broadcast home, a new technical era, a 24-round calendar, Audi’s arrival, and Cadillac’s first campaign.

Which option is right for you?

If you want every practice, qualifying session, Sprint, and race

Choose the Apple TV subscription. It is the only option in the announced U.S. arrangement that is designed to deliver the complete championship package live and on demand. You can use an existing compatible TV, streaming device, console, phone, tablet, computer, or browser.

If you are a casual or budget-conscious viewer

Start with free practice sessions and check which race weekends Apple has designated for free access. Yahoo Sports adds free live practice and qualifying coverage, while Tubi offers alternate broadcasts for multiple races. This approach provides several ways to sample the season, but it will not guarantee every Grand Prix in the standard presentation.

If you mainly watch with friends at a bar or restaurant

Ask the venue whether it has the appropriate commercial F1 access through EverPass. A normal household subscription is not the same as permission to show a race publicly.

If you care most about timing, radios, and onboard cameras

Look for the F1 TV feeds and data features inside Apple TV. Multiview on supported hardware may be particularly useful, but check the device and session capabilities before assuming that every feed or layout will be available everywhere.

If you already own a smart TV, Roku, console, or computer

Try the Apple TV app or web player before buying anything. The rights deal is a subscription change, not a requirement to replace your television.

Important limitations to keep in mind

  • U.S. only: The exclusivity agreement does not establish Apple TV as Formula 1’s global broadcaster. Rights and viewing options in other countries can be different.
  • Not every race is free: Free practice and selected race weekends do not equal a free full season.
  • Apple hardware is optional: The Apple TV app works across many third-party platforms.
  • F1 TV details can vary: Features, support-series access, UHD/HDR availability, and platform behavior can depend on territory and subscription.
  • Price and trial terms can change: Confirm the current $12.99 monthly price and seven-day trial before subscribing.
  • Public viewing is different: Bars, restaurants, and other businesses need an appropriate commercial arrangement.
  • Do not rebroadcast the coverage: Watching a free session does not grant permission to copy or restream it. Anyone redistributing race footage needs the necessary rights and authorization.

Bottom line for U.S. fans

Apple TV becomes the main U.S. home of Formula 1 in 2026, with a five-year exclusive deal covering every practice session, qualifying session, Sprint, and Grand Prix. The announced price is $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial, and the subscription works on far more than Apple hardware.

The transition is more flexible than a simple paywall. Free practice, selected free race weekends, Yahoo Sports coverage, Tubi altcasts, IMAX screenings, and commercial venue access give different kinds of fans different ways to follow the season. For viewers who want the entire championship and the deepest collection of feeds, however, Apple TV is the central U.S. destination—just as Formula 1 begins a major technical reset with Audi and Cadillac joining the story.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Formula 1 moving exclusively to Apple TV worldwide?

No. The five-year exclusivity agreement covers the United States. It does not make Apple TV Formula 1’s worldwide broadcast home; viewing rights in other countries may remain with different broadcasters and services.

Can I watch 2026 F1 races for free?

Not for the full season. Apple says every practice session and selected race weekends will be available free in the Apple TV app. Yahoo Sports will stream live practice and qualifying, and Tubi will offer alternate broadcasts for multiple races. These options do not guarantee every Grand Prix in the standard broadcast.

Do I need an Apple TV 4K or another Apple device?

No. You can watch through the Apple TV app on compatible Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, and TCL televisions, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation, Xbox, supported Apple devices, and the web at tv.apple.com.

What happens to F1 TV in the United States?

F1 TV remains part of the viewing ecosystem, with Apple hosting F1 TV within the U.S. Apple TV subscription. Its specialized features include multiple cameras, team radio, live timing, data overlays, UHD/HDR coverage, and support-series content where available. Exact features can vary by territory, subscription, device, and content.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: U.S. viewers who want every 2026 F1 session should plan on the $12.99-per-month Apple TV subscription, but they do not need Apple hardware. Free practices, selected race weekends, Yahoo Sports, and Tubi altcasts provide lower-commitment ways to sample the season.
