Yes—the Apple TV app on Android now supports Google Cast. The feature arrived with version 2.2 in December 2025, letting users send eligible video from an Android phone, tablet, or foldable to a compatible Chromecast, Google TV device, Nest Hub, or Cast-enabled television. Google lists Android 10 or later, a compatible receiver, and an internet connection as requirements.
What changed—and when
Apple launched its Apple TV app for Android on February 12, 2025, but the original release did not include Google Cast. That changed in December 2025: reporting on app version 2.2 documented Cast controls on the app’s home screen and in its video player. This is a feature of the Apple TV app running on Android mobile devices. It is not a new capability of Apple TV 4K, and it is not AirPlay. Google Cast is the technology used by Chromecast, Google TV hardware, Nest displays, and compatible televisions. The phone selects the content and receiver, then serves as a playback controller; this is app-based casting, not simply mirroring the Android screen.

- An Android phone, tablet, or foldable running Android 10 or later. This is Google’s published minimum for the feature, though it does not guarantee compatibility with every handset or app configuration.
- The Apple TV app from Google Play. Search for “Apple TV” and check that Apple is the publisher. Update an existing installation; the Play Store listing showed an update dated March 24, 2026, but its retrieved page does not establish the version number on every current installation. - A compatible Google Cast receiver and an internet connection. That may be a Chromecast, Google TV device, Nest Hub, or television with Cast built in—but compatibility varies by model. “Android TV” branding by itself is not proof that a particular device will appear as a receiver.
- Access to the content. Subscription programming requires an eligible subscription, and other content, sports, and services depend on account, country, and platform. Apple’s Android app instructions · Google’s requirements
How to cast Apple TV from Android
- Install or update the app. Open Google Play, search for Apple TV, and install or update the app published by Apple.
- Sign in. Open Apple TV and use the Apple Account associated with your subscription or other eligible access.
- Check the receiver. Turn on the Cast-enabled television or device and make sure it has network access.
- Tap the Cast icon. Reports place it near the account/profile control on the home screen; it is also available in the full-screen player. If you do not see it immediately, start an eligible video and check the player.
- Choose your screen. Select the Chromecast, Google TV device, Nest display, or other compatible receiver from the list.
- Control playback from your phone. The reported interface includes play/pause, volume, scrubbing, a 10-second rewind, and audio and caption settings. Controls can differ with the app build, content, and receiver.

What can you watch?
Cast is a way to send eligible Apple TV video to a larger screen; it does not make every item in the app available to every account or receiver. Subscription shows and films require the applicable subscription. Sports offerings—including MLS, Friday Night Baseball, and Formula 1 where available—vary by market and offer. Rentals, purchases, third-party subscriptions, and other features may also depend on region and platform. A subscription is not required merely to download the app, but it is required for subscription programming. As of August 2026, Apple lists its service in the United States at $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial. If the Cast button or receiver is missing
Try these checks in order. They are practical troubleshooting steps, not a published Apple diagnostic procedure:
- Update Apple TV through Google Play, then close and reopen the app.
- Confirm the phone runs Android 10 or later and that the app is compatible with your device.
- Open an eligible video and check for Cast in the player as well as on the home screen.
- Confirm the television or streaming device supports Google Cast; not every smart TV or device with “Android” in its name is a compatible receiver.
- Check that the receiver is powered on and that both it and the phone have working network and internet access. Restart the app and receiver if needed.
- If the receiver appears but playback will not start, check your subscription or title access and try another eligible title. Receiver compatibility, network discovery, content restrictions, and temporary app issues can all contribute.
- Consider whether the title or feature is available in your country or on that device.
If the television already offers the native Apple TV app, opening it directly may be simpler than casting. Apple says Google TV and Android TV devices can run the app where supported, but purchases cannot be made inside the app on those platforms; content purchased, rented, or subscribed to elsewhere may be watched after signing in. What Cast support does not mean
- It does not make an Apple TV 4K a Google Cast receiver. Apple’s streaming box is a different platform; this update is for compatible Google Cast devices.
- It does not guarantee every TV will work. Check the specific model’s Cast support and app compatibility.
- It does not remove content or regional restrictions. Access still depends on the title, account, subscription, platform, and country.
- It does not require buying Apple hardware—or new Google hardware. The main benefit is for people who already have a compatible Cast receiver.
Cast, use the TV app, or choose Apple hardware?
Cast from Android if you already have a compatible receiver, your TV lacks a convenient native Apple TV app, or you want to move a program from your phone to the big screen. You do not need an Apple TV 4K to use this feature.
Use the native TV app if your television or streaming device supports Apple TV and household members want to watch without relying on one person’s phone. It can also avoid relying on the phone’s battery, network connection, or availability as a controller.

Consider Apple hardware if you specifically want Apple’s ecosystem or AirPlay. That is a separate choice, not a prerequisite for Google Cast. Apple lists supported televisions and streaming devices on its Apple TV app availability page; compatibility varies by model and region.
