Eligible DIRECTV customers can add Apple TV for $12.99 per month and watch through the Apple TV app. It is a paid add-on, not a free benefit included with every DIRECTV STREAM plan. DIRECTV says customers billed for streaming through Amazon, Roku or Google cannot add it through DIRECTV. Check My TV package to see whether your account is eligible.
What “Apple TV” means in this announcement
On March 25, 2026, DIRECTV announced that customers could add Apple TV to their accounts. The current official name is Apple TV; many customers still know the streaming service as Apple TV+. The Apple TV app is the application used to watch it. The app is not itself a subscription, and downloading it does not unlock Apple’s shows or sports without an active subscription.
This is also separate from Apple TV 4K or other Apple TV hardware. You do not need to buy an Apple streaming box if you already have a compatible device. And adding Apple TV through DIRECTV is not the same as installing the DIRECTV app on an Apple TV device: those are separate services and apps.

DIRECTV listed the add-on at $12.99 per month when checked on August 16, 2026. Apple’s own U.S. site listed direct plans starting at $14.99 per month on that date. Prices and account terms can change, so confirm the amount shown before you subscribe. The listed prices do not establish what taxes, promotions or account-specific charges may apply.
DIRECTV says its streaming-app add-ons can be canceled at any time and do not require a long-term contract. If you add Apple TV through DIRECTV, expect DIRECTV to manage that subscription billing. See DIRECTV’s streaming apps page and support instructions for the current terms.
Who can add it?
The option is for eligible DIRECTV customers, not necessarily every household using DIRECTV STREAM. DIRECTV specifically excludes customers who pay for streaming through Amazon, Roku or Google. Its public information does not establish eligibility for every legacy package, promotion or reseller-billed account.

Sign in to DIRECTV and open My TV package. If Apple TV appears as an available add-on, follow the displayed offer and price. If it does not, your billing route or account may not qualify; contact DIRECTV or consider subscribing directly through Apple.
How to add and activate Apple TV
- Sign in to your DIRECTV account.
- Open My TV package.
- Find Apple TV, select Add, and follow the prompts to confirm the add-on.
- Activate it from the account page if the option appears, or use the activation email DIRECTV sends. DIRECTV’s announcement also refers to an Activate Now link in Account Manager.
- Follow the activation steps to create or link Apple TV credentials. The email address used for those credentials does not have to match your DIRECTV login.
- Open or install the Apple TV app on a compatible device and sign in with the Apple TV credentials you activated.
If you are in a DIRECTV free-trial period, DIRECTV says the activation email may arrive after the trial ends. You can also check the My TV package page for activation rather than assuming the email will arrive immediately.

Already subscribe to Apple TV?
DIRECTV says an existing Apple TV account can be linked or merged with the DIRECTV-billed subscription. Start from DIRECTV’s activation flow and follow its instructions; simply installing the app or signing into it does not, by itself, confirm that billing has moved.
To avoid paying twice, check which account is linked and which company is billing you after activation. Do not cancel an existing subscription until the DIRECTV-linked access is working and you have verified the billing arrangement. If you prefer Apple to manage the subscription, keeping direct Apple billing may suit you better.

Where can you watch?
DIRECTV lists Gemini devices, Apple devices, smart TVs, gaming consoles and streaming sticks among the ways to watch. On a Gemini device, look for Apple TV in the device’s app menu after activation. On other compatible devices, install or open the Apple TV app and sign in with the activated credentials. Device and app availability can vary; Apple’s compatibility guidance recommends searching the service’s home screen for “Apple TV” if the app is not immediately visible.
A compatible device and internet connection are needed. If the app is absent, first confirm activation, then search the device’s app menu or store and check for app or system updates. If it remains unavailable, use another device that supports the Apple TV app or contact the device provider or DIRECTV. Apple notes that app availability and features can vary by country or region.
What does the subscription include?
DIRECTV and Apple describe the service as offering Apple Originals and movies, along with live Formula 1 coverage, MLS matches and MLB Friday Night Baseball. Apple describes its listed shows and movies as ad-free and says those sports are included in the subscription without an extra charge. That does not mean every event is available in every market or free of blackout and other event restrictions; check the terms for the specific event.
DIRECTV billing or Apple billing?
- DIRECTV may fit if you are eligible, want the subscription on your DIRECTV bill, or prefer managing it alongside your TV account. The listed DIRECTV price was lower than Apple’s listed starting price on August 16, 2026, but eligibility, taxes, promotions and terms affect the comparison.
- Direct Apple billing may fit if you are excluded because of your billing route, prefer managing Apple services with Apple, or do not want your streaming subscription tied to DIRECTV. Apple listed plans starting at $14.99 per month on the same date.
There is no need to buy Apple TV hardware solely to use this subscription if one of your existing devices supports the Apple TV app. DIRECTV’s separate DIRECTV app support information concerns watching DIRECTV on Apple TV hardware, not subscribing to Apple TV.
