Apple has not officially announced a 2026 Apple TV 4K. Reports point to a possible successor and perhaps a fall 2026 launch, but the exact date, price, chip, storage, ports, remote, and features are unknown. The confirmed product remains the third-generation Apple TV 4K, available in the U.S. for $199 or $249 depending on configuration.
What is actually known about the 2026 Apple TV 4K?
Apple has not officially announced a 2026 Apple TV 4K. The credible version of this story is that Apple is reportedly preparing a successor to the third-generation Apple TV 4K, possibly for a fall 2026 launch. However, the chip, price, storage, ports, design, remote, and release date remain unconfirmed.
Apple’s current streaming box is still the third-generation Apple TV 4K, introduced in October 2022. In the United States, it is sold in a 64GB Wi-Fi configuration for $199 and a 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet configuration for $249. Prices can change, and Apple sells the HDMI cable separately.
That makes the buying decision relatively straightforward: buy the current model if you need an Apple TV now, but do not buy it on the assumption that a rumored 2026 feature will arrive later. If you already own a recent Apple TV 4K, waiting for Apple’s official specifications is the sensible choice.

The current Apple TV 4K uses Apple’s A15 Bionic chip and supports 4K video, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. The 128GB model also includes Gigabit Ethernet and Thread networking.

Both versions run tvOS and support Apple’s television and music services, third-party streaming apps, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, and Apple’s smart-home features. Apple also positions the device as a home hub for compatible HomeKit and Matter accessories. Thread support on the Ethernet-equipped version can be useful in a smart home, but it does not make the box a universal replacement for every dedicated smart-home controller.

The included Siri Remote charges over USB-C. A replacement remote is available separately and is compatible with all generations of Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. You do not need to buy a second remote when purchasing the current Apple TV: one is included in the box.
Why a 2026 model is being reported
The current Apple TV 4K has been on sale since 2022, creating an unusually long gap between hardware updates for a product that has historically received periodic processor and feature changes. Reporting attributed to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is preparing a new Apple TV and a new HomePod mini.
Those reports also connect the timing to Apple’s delayed, more capable Siri and broader Apple Intelligence plans. In that interpretation, Apple may prefer to introduce the next Apple TV as part of a larger software story rather than release a small hardware refresh with little visible change.
Other reporting has pointed to a possible fall 2026 announcement, potentially near Apple’s usual September hardware period. That is a timing prediction, not a confirmed event. Apple’s official materials reviewed for this story do not announce a 2026 Apple TV 4K, provide a launch date, or list its specifications.

In particular, reports about Apple Intelligence should not be treated as proof that the 2026 Apple TV will run every Apple Intelligence feature available on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Apple has not explained the hardware requirements, supported languages, regional availability, or exact tvOS feature set for a future Apple TV.
Should you buy an Apple TV 4K now or wait?
Buy now if you need a streaming box today
The current model remains a strong choice if you want Apple’s interface, reliable access to major streaming apps, AirPlay, Apple services, Apple Arcade, or an Apple-centered smart-home hub. It already supports the main picture and sound standards most 4K television owners are looking for.
The current Apple TV 4K is also a reasonable purchase if you are replacing an older Apple TV HD, an unreliable smart-TV app platform, or a streaming stick that struggles with navigation. Its confirmed capabilities are more relevant to that decision than rumors about a product that may still be months away.
If you shop for the Apple TV 4K now, check that the listing is for the current third-generation model. A product page or search result using “2026 Apple TV” is not evidence that Apple has released a new device.
Wait if you already own a recent Apple TV 4K
Waiting makes more sense when your main reason to upgrade is rumored Siri or Apple Intelligence support. Apple has not confirmed whether every rumored feature will require new hardware, whether any feature will reach current Apple TV models through tvOS, or whether some functions will be limited by region or language.

- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
There is also no confirmed 2026 price or design. Replacing a working second- or third-generation Apple TV 4K today could leave you paying for a small change, while waiting preserves the option to compare the official model with the current one.

Nothing in the available reporting establishes a particular new video standard or display capability for 2026. If your television and sound system already work with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos, those features are already available on the current Apple TV 4K. A rumored refresh should not be treated as a confirmed upgrade in picture quality.
Prepare your setup without overbuying
HDMI cable
Apple states that an HDMI cable is sold separately. For a 4K HDR installation, an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is the sensible category to consider, provided it is compatible with the television and any receiver or soundbar in the signal path. The cable does not create Dolby Vision or HDR10+ support by itself: the Apple TV, display, receiver, content, and settings must all support the format.
Before buying, check whether the cable will run directly from the Apple TV to the television or through an audio receiver. Older receivers may be the component that limits 4K HDR or HDMI 2.1 features.
Ethernet
Gigabit Ethernet is available on the current 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet model, not the 64GB Wi-Fi version. It can be worthwhile for a television cabinet with a nearby network socket, congested wireless conditions, or a preference for a wired connection. You will also need a suitable network cable and an active router or switch port.

For a typical home with strong Wi-Fi, Ethernet is not automatically necessary for streaming. The wired model’s additional storage and Thread capability may be more important reasons to choose it than streaming bandwidth alone.

Remote
The Siri Remote is included with the current Apple TV 4K and uses USB-C. A separate Siri Remote replacement is useful if the original is lost or damaged, or if you keep one in a second room. It is not a required upgrade accessory, and there is no confirmed 2026 remote design to buy in advance.
Gaming controller
Apple Arcade and supported tvOS games can be played with a compatible Bluetooth controller, but one is optional. The rumored 2026 model has not been reported as requiring a particular controller. Choose a controller based on the games you actually play and its compatibility with Apple devices rather than on speculation about the next Apple TV.

When Apple eventually publishes official information, these are the details that will determine whether the new model is a meaningful upgrade:
Recommended Free Tools
- Processor and on-device capabilities: Look for the exact chip and whether Apple identifies hardware requirements for Siri or Apple Intelligence.
- tvOS compatibility: Check which features are exclusive to the new model and which will also reach existing Apple TVs.
- Storage tiers and price: Compare the complete configuration, not just the entry-level price.
- Ports and networking: Confirm HDMI, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread support before planning a cabinet or wired installation.
- Video and audio formats: Verify whether Apple adds anything beyond the current Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos support.
- Remote and accessories: Find out whether the existing USB-C Siri Remote remains compatible and what the box includes.
- Availability: Check launch countries, delivery dates, and whether features vary by region or language.
Bottom line
A new Apple TV 4K in 2026 is plausible and supported by repeated reporting, but it is not an announced product. The only confirmed Apple TV 4K remains the third-generation A15 Bionic model, priced in the United States at $199 for 64GB Wi-Fi or $249 for 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet.
Buy the current device if its existing streaming, gaming, and smart-home features solve a present problem. Wait if you already have a recent Apple TV 4K and are primarily interested in rumored Siri or Apple Intelligence capabilities. Until Apple publishes a product page and specifications, every 2026 detail should remain provisional.
