Apple has not announced a new Apple TV 4K, but multiple reports point to a fourth-generation refresh arriving sometime in 2026. The most credible rumor pattern suggests a familiar-looking black box with a newer A-series processor, possibly the A17 Pro, and updated wireless connectivity through Apple’s rumored N1 chip. The bigger reason to wait may be Siri and Apple’s wider smart-home strategy—not a dramatic change to picture quality or the enclosure.
That timing remains uncertain. A launch later in 2026, potentially around the rollout of Apple’s tvOS 27-era Siri features, is widely inferred from the reporting, but Apple has not confirmed an event date, release date, price, storage options, or specifications.
What Apple has actually confirmed
The last officially announced Apple TV 4K arrived on October 18, 2022, and became available on November 4 of that year. It is the third-generation model and uses Apple’s A15 Bionic chip.
Apple sold that generation in two principal configurations:

- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
- A 64GB Wi-Fi model.
- A 128GB Wi-Fi plus Ethernet model with Gigabit Ethernet and Thread networking for compatible smart-home accessories.
The current model supports 4K HDR video, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and other surround-sound formats. It also introduced a USB-C Siri Remote. Apple’s 2022 announcement claimed up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to 30 percent faster GPU performance than the preceding Apple TV 4K, but those figures describe the 2022 model’s improvement over its predecessor. They are not evidence of how fast the rumored 2026 device will be.
Apple has announced tvOS 27 and related software updates in 2026, and Apple’s developer documentation lists tvOS 27 support and continuing beta development. Those software announcements provide useful timing context, but they do not confirm that new Apple TV hardware will launch with a particular tvOS build.

The clearest expected upgrade is a faster chip
MacRumors’s July 8, 2026 rumor roundup identified a new A-series processor as the principal expected upgrade, with the A17 Pro the leading possibility. If that report is accurate, it would replace the current Apple TV 4K’s A15 Bionic.
The A17 Pro rumor is plausible in the context of Apple’s AI plans, but it remains a rumor. Apple has not confirmed the chip, and there is no independent testing of an unreleased 2026 Apple TV 4K. That means there are no reliable benchmark results, gaming tests, thermal measurements or hands-on speed comparisons to report.
The practical importance of a newer chip would extend beyond opening apps faster. It could provide more headroom for demanding games, future tvOS features, richer on-device processing and smart-home tasks. However, buyers should not translate the A17 Pro report into a guaranteed performance percentage. The current model’s 2022 speed claims cannot be reused as a forecast for the rumored successor.
Apple’s rumored N1 chip could modernize connectivity
The other recurring hardware rumor concerns Apple’s N1 chip. Reporting summarized by MacRumors associates the N1 with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support.
Wi-Fi 7 could improve the Apple TV’s ability to work on newer wireless networks, although the benefit in a real living room would depend on the router, internet connection, network congestion and the quality of the television or streaming services being used. Bluetooth 6 could bring newer wireless capabilities, but the exact features and implementation are not known.
Thread may be more important to Apple’s broader strategy than to streaming itself. The current 128GB Ethernet configuration already supports Thread networking, and Apple has positioned Apple TV as part of its smart-home hub infrastructure. A successor with updated connectivity could make the box a more capable bridge between Apple devices, Thread accessories and Matter-based smart-home products.

That does not mean the rumored model’s radio specifications are settled. The N1 chip has not been officially announced for Apple TV, and the precise Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and Matter capabilities remain unknown. The safe conclusion is that Apple may be preparing the Apple TV to play a larger role in the home, not that every rumored standard is guaranteed at launch.
Why Siri may be the reason the launch was delayed
The most revealing part of the rumor cycle is the reported connection between the Apple TV refresh and Apple’s delayed Siri plans.
Earlier reports expected a new Apple TV in late 2025, but that launch did not happen. In May 2026, MacRumors cited Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in reporting that new Apple TV and HomePod mini hardware had reportedly been ready for months but was being held until Apple’s revamped Siri was ready. A July Bloomberg News report similarly described a new television set-top box as part of a broader smart-home push centered on Siri AI.
If that reporting is correct, the delay is strategic rather than simply a manufacturing problem. Apple may want the new Apple TV and HomePod mini to arrive as visible parts of a more personalized home assistant platform instead of releasing hardware before the underlying Siri experience is ready.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThere is an important distinction between AI-ready hardware and confirmed AI features. A newer chip could make the rumored Apple TV better suited to future Apple Intelligence capabilities, but the available evidence does not establish:
- Which Siri functions would run locally on the Apple TV.
- Which tasks would require an iPhone, iPad, Mac or another Apple device.
- Whether a new conversational Siri experience would be available on day one.
- Whether the full feature set would work in every country, language or Apple account region.
- Whether the Apple TV would receive every Apple Intelligence feature announced for other platforms.
Apple’s public announcements about Apple Intelligence, Siri and tvOS 27 confirm the software direction, not a specific new Apple TV product. Do not treat the rumored box as a guaranteed fully conversational television assistant until Apple publishes its own feature list.
Expect a familiar black box rather than a dramatic redesign
The available reporting does not point to a radical exterior change. MacRumors expects the next Apple TV 4K to retain the current compact, squircle-like black plastic form. In other words, this is more likely to be an internal refresh than a new television, soundbar, display-integrated device or radically smaller streaming stick.
That would make sense for Apple’s product strategy. The current enclosure already fits behind or below most televisions, and the reported improvements—processor power, wireless networking and smart-home functionality—do not require a highly visible redesign.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe Siri Remote is less certain. A 9to5Mac report discussed the possibility of a revised remote containing an Ultra Wideband component for Precision Finding. That could make it easier to locate a misplaced remote, but this is a lower-confidence accessory rumor than the processor and launch-delay reports. There is no confirmation that a new remote will ship with the next Apple TV 4K or that existing remotes will be replaced.
Rumors that do not have reliable support
There is no reliable evidence in the reviewed reporting for several more dramatic possibilities. Treat the following claims as unsupported unless Apple announces them:
Rank #2
- DESIGNED IN THE USA.
- WHAT’S IN THE BOX: Deluxe Apple TV mount and mounting hardware. (Apple TV 4K, remote, and HDMI cable are not included.)
- PERFECT for wall-mounted televisions: Attaches Apple TV to the back of your television (or to a wall near your television).
- COMPATIBLE with ALL Apple TV generations and models. (This mount is compatible with Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi and Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi + Ethernet. This mount is compatible with all 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, and 2019 Apple TV models.)
- HEAT MANAGEMENT – Ventilation channels allow cool air to flow under your Apple TV.
- A built-in camera for video calls or gesture control.
- A cellular connection.
- A major storage expansion.
- A radically cheaper streaming-stick version.
- A new display-output standard.
- A television or soundbar that incorporates Apple TV hardware.
- A confirmed redesign of the Siri Remote.
These ideas may appear in speculative discussions because they would make the product feel more novel, but they are not part of the defensible rumor consensus.

Should you buy the current model or wait?
The decision depends more on your timing and priorities than on any confirmed performance difference.

Buy now if you need a streaming box
If your television needs a reliable 4K streaming platform today, the current Apple TV 4K remains a defensible purchase. Its core video, audio, app, gaming and smart-home features are documented, and it does not become obsolete merely because a refresh is rumored.
It is especially reasonable to buy now if you already have a Dolby Vision or HDR10+ television, use Apple services and AirPlay, want Dolby Atmos support, or need an Apple home hub immediately. If wired networking or Thread matters, remember that those capabilities belong to the 128GB Wi-Fi plus Ethernet configuration—not the 64GB Wi-Fi model.
Before purchasing, check the live price and availability. Apple launched the current generation at $129 in the United States in 2022, but MacRumors reported that Apple raised its starting price to $199 in June 2026. The old $129 figure should not be treated as the current price, and neither the old launch price nor the current reported price predicts what a 2026 successor will cost.
Wait if your current Apple TV still works
Waiting makes more sense if your existing second- or third-generation Apple TV 4K is working well and you are primarily interested in a newer processor, improved wireless networking or Siri-related features. Multiple reports now point to a 2026 refresh, so replacing a functioning unit immediately could mean buying just before a new model appears.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Waiting is also sensible if you are building a new Apple-centered smart home and can postpone the purchase. The rumored N1 chip and Siri connection suggest that the next model may be designed to serve a larger role than simply playing video, although those benefits are not confirmed.
Do not wait solely for better picture quality
There is no reliable report of a major display-output change. If your only goal is watching 4K documentaries, films and television with HDR, Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos, the current model already supports the relevant formats documented by Apple. The rumored upgrade is more likely to be about processing, connectivity and future platform features than a visible leap in image quality.
What to watch for in Apple’s eventual announcement
When Apple does announce the product, these are the details that will determine whether the refresh is genuinely worthwhile:
- The exact chip. Confirm whether Apple uses the A17 Pro, a newer A-series processor or something else, and look for official claims rather than rumor-based performance estimates.
- Actual radio specifications. Check whether Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread are present, and whether they apply to every configuration.
- Smart-home limits. Apple should clarify whether the device is a Thread border router, how Matter support works and whether any new Siri functions require another Apple device.
- Siri availability. Look for supported languages, regions, launch timing and whether the features are available immediately or arrive through a later software update.
- Storage and Ethernet options. Do not assume Apple will keep the current 64GB and 128GB split.
- Remote changes. Confirm whether UWB or Precision Finding is included and whether the remote is bundled with every model.
- Price and availability. The launch price, retail date and regional availability matter more than an unverified release-window prediction.
A report that the hardware is ready should not be read as proof that production has started or that retail availability is imminent. Apple could still change the launch timing, configurations or feature set before making the product public.

Will the new Apple TV have Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6?
Reports associate Apple’s rumored N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Those radio specifications remain unconfirmed, as do the exact capabilities of any final model.
Is it better to buy an Apple TV 4K now or wait?
Buy now if you need a streaming box or smart-home hub immediately. Wait if your current Apple TV works and you mainly want newer connectivity, a faster processor or possible Siri and Apple Intelligence features. Do not wait solely for better picture quality, since no major new display standard has been reliably reported.
How much will the new Apple TV 4K cost?
There is no confirmed 2026 price. Apple launched the current model at $129 in the United States in 2022, while MacRumors reported a $199 starting price for the current model in June 2026. Neither figure establishes the price of the rumored successor.
The Bottom Line
The next Apple TV 4K appears to be a real 2026 product in Apple’s plans, but it is not official yet. The strongest rumors point to a newer A-series chip—possibly the A17 Pro—updated connectivity through a rumored N1 chip, and a launch tied to Apple’s delayed Siri and smart-home ambitions. The enclosure will probably remain familiar, and there is no evidence of a major picture-quality revolution. Buy the current model if you need one now; wait if your existing box works and you want to see whether Apple can turn its Siri and smart-home strategy into a meaningful hardware upgrade.
