It was the first reported distribution of Apple Music Radio outside Apple’s own service—not Apple’s first radio offering. TuneIn gives listeners a way to hear the live broadcasts without an Apple Music subscription, where the streams are available; it does not unlock Apple Music’s on-demand catalog.
What changed—and what “for the first time” means
Apple Music Radio is now distributed through TuneIn, an internet-radio platform, in addition to Apple’s own services. The change was reported as beginning August 27, 2025. The significance is distribution: Apple’s branded live stations crossed beyond Apple Music’s own environment. The date and TuneIn availability were reported by Mediagazer; rollout and station visibility may vary by market and device.
Apple Music is the subscription service for on-demand listening, while Apple Music Radio is its collection of live, programmed broadcasts. Apple describes the radio offering as 24/7 programming that includes global, local, and artist-led shows (Apple, June 2025). TuneIn is distributing those live streams, not the full Apple Music experience.
Which Apple Music stations are on TuneIn?
The six-station lineup identified in Apple’s expanded live-radio offering comprises:

Apple’s December 2024 announcement identifies Música Uno, Club, and Chill as additions to Apple Music 1, Hits, and Country, and says the live stations could be heard free without an Apple Music subscription (Apple, December 2024). The TuneIn arrangement concerns these branded live stations; it does not mean every Apple Music playlist, personalized station, show, or catalog track is available there.
How to listen on TuneIn
- Open the TuneIn app or service.
- Search for “Apple Music Radio,” “Apple Music 1,” or the name of a station.
- Select the station’s live stream to listen.
The exact listing and availability can differ by country, device, or TuneIn platform. If a station does not appear or play, check whether it is available in your market and try searching by its full station name. TuneIn listings may be localized or temporarily unavailable; a listing alone does not guarantee that the stream can play in every territory.

What is free, and what still requires Apple Music?
Contemporary coverage reported that the Apple Music stations were free and ad-free on TuneIn without requiring TuneIn Premium (Mediagazer). That applies to access to the reported live streams, not to every TuneIn feature or program. TuneIn itself may also show platform promotions or other commercial elements, depending on market and account state.
Listening to a live station is not the same as subscribing to Apple Music. Apple’s U.S. product page, checked August 18, 2026, lists an Individual plan at $11.99 per month after a limited-time three-month introductory offer of $1.99, a Family plan at $19.99 per month after a limited-time three-month offer of $4.99, and a Student plan at $6.99 per month subject to eligibility. These are U.S. prices and offers can change by country, eligibility, or campaign (Apple Music).

Apple Music remains the route to its on-demand catalog, personal library, playlists, downloads, and subscriber features. Apple says its service includes more than 100 million songs; TuneIn access to a live broadcast should not be treated as access to that catalog or as a guarantee of Apple Music features such as lossless or Spatial Audio playback (Apple Music).

The practical choice is straightforward: TuneIn may be enough if the goal is to hear Apple’s live programming. Apple Music is for listeners who also want control over song selection, catalog search, personal collections, downloads, and the broader subscription service. A TuneIn relay should not be assumed to provide Apple Music controls such as saving a broadcast track to a personal library or adding it to an Apple Music playlist.

Why put Apple’s stations on TuneIn?
The partnership gives Apple’s live programming a route to listeners who may not open Apple Music or use an Apple device. TuneIn can also place the stations alongside other internet radio, news, sports, and podcast streams in radio-oriented listening environments, including connected cars and smart speakers where TuneIn is supported.
Contemporary coverage cited approximately 75 million TuneIn monthly active users. That is a reported platform audience figure, not an independently audited measurement (Mediagazer). Apple’s stated commercial rationale was not specified in the reporting; expanding reach and introducing listeners to Apple’s programming are reasonable business interpretations, not a disclosed promise that TuneIn listening will convert to subscriptions. In January 2026, Apple said its services expanded beyond its ecosystem in 2025 through partnerships including TuneIn, and described Apple Music as reaching all-time highs in listenership and new subscribers that year (Apple, January 2026).

Apple’s radio history: 2013, 2015, 2024, and 2025
The TuneIn development is easier to understand with the earlier milestones in view:
- June 10, 2013: Apple announced iTunes Radio, a free, ad-supported internet-radio service with more than 200 stations (Apple).
- June 8, 2015: Apple announced Apple Music and Beats 1. Apple described Beats 1 as its first live radio station dedicated entirely to music and music culture—a claim about that branded station, not Apple’s first radio service (Apple).
- June 30, 2015: Apple Music launched, bringing Beats 1 and Apple’s radio identity into the subscription service.
- December 10, 2024: Apple added Música Uno, Music Club, and Music Chill to Music 1, Hits, and Country, expanding its named live lineup to six (Apple).
- August 27, 2025: Apple Music Radio’s TuneIn distribution was reported to begin, marking the first reported availability outside Apple’s own service (Mediagazer).
Live radio is not terrestrial radio or on-demand streaming
Terrestrial radio travels over AM/FM broadcast infrastructure and is often local or regional. Internet radio delivers a live or scheduled stream online. On-demand streaming lets a listener select a particular track from a catalog, while an algorithmic station generates a stream around a song, artist, genre, or listening history.
Apple Music Radio is primarily an editorially programmed, hosted live-radio experience delivered over the internet. Apple’s 2015 launch emphasized human curation and live broadcasting; the TuneIn distribution changes where listeners can hear the broadcasts, not their basic format (Apple).
